Feast of Flesh, formerly known as Abattoir, is definitely one-of-a-kind. Though I always prefer Happy Cloud Pictures' horror-comedies, such as Severe Injuries, this more dramatic take on the vampire lore is fresh and features numerous solid performances from both newcomers and established actors. Mike Watt's dialog is sharp, and his stories always take the audiences in surprising directions that help to reinforce my belief that only independent filmmakers are making any worthwhile movies these days. There are also some very nice sets utilized throughout the film, including the beautiful home that is the central location of the film's action. Check out this film if you like vampire films and are looking for a fresh take on an old subject.

It's extremely clear that the positive reviewers knew the director/writer and didn't want to insult him to his face, so I'll do it. This sucks. And the director/writer did not make himself look kickass by casting himself as what he thought was the "cool, Irish vigilante" character. He just looks like an ass.
The entire movie gives you zero reason to side with the humans. Sheridan (the aforementioned director/writer) is obnoxious. Tom is obnoxious despite how funny his money talisman scene was. Seth is obnoxious and if I was Theresa, I would've dumped him ages ago. Theresa is cool, and Elizabet is VERY cool.
This is a bad movie about men obsessed with hunting down women who are doing their best to keep the peace in town and mind their own business. And it isn't a bad movie because of the low budget, it's just a bad movie overall.
Much love.

Stuck in an abusive relationship, a woman joins a select group of women living in a halfway house that borders on a brothel for couples, and when she is revealed as an ex-girlfriend of a special patron kidnaps her setting off a delicate truce between the vampires who run the brothel and local mercenaries.
This was a fairly serviceable and enjoyable genre effort. One of the better elements of this one is the rather fun starting point that brings about a pretty lengthy and intriguing setup here. The initial ploy of the vampire clan seducing lonely and victimized women to use as recruits in their brothel and using their status to lure in couples and degenerates as a means of feeding on them in secret offers a fine way to introduce the main plotpoints here. Featuring the group as far more calculating and discreet observing the way the vampires take out the one couple there to solicit the maidens there only to see them turn and feast instead as is the custom for their interactions providing the requisite sleaze alongside the storyline beats. That setup goes nicely with the secondary storyline involving the interplay involving the mercenaries and their relationship with the main brothel. Knowing full well what goes on inside and trying to ensure everything remains safe whenever it's brought up in the community forces them into action to defend the participant from the vampires, the uneasy balance that exists between everyone offers a lot to like with how it carries on integrating their missions. As the build-up has made the vampires far more sympathetic than expected while the brutal treatment of the mercenaries towards them for mistakenly breaking the truce paints them out as the true villains which has an intriguing twist to everything. On top of that, this fun storyline allows for a stellar series of confrontations to come about placating both the human and vampire sides of the equation. The twists on vampire lore, relying on any object of faith to combat the creatures rather than just crosses or injecting holy water into their veins to ensure a reversal of their condition provided they were changed soon enough so they become human once again is a great addition to the canon which feels unique and logical. That leads into the fun finale where they manage to barge into the brothel for their big showdown which is a highly enjoyable confrontation offering up some solid confrontations, decent enough gore, and some intriguing twists to make for a highly enjoyable time here. There are a few issues here that hold this one back. One of the main features here is the idea that it's a bit too ambitious and low-budget for the type of film this wants to be, featuring a few too many storylines for its good. Going from the vampires to the friend trying to rescue his girlfriend with the help of the mercenaries who have a long-standing truce with the vampires makes for quite a lot to work through at the time and budget this has. This causes the film to zigzag around with the different viewpoints to the point where it's hard to keep track of everything going on and can become quite confusing at points. There are also the expected budgetary limitations that come about with a film like this, which isn't a damaging flaw but also holds it back somewhat.
Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Violence, Graphic Language, and Nudity.
