An All Quiet on the Western Front reunion is imminent, as Daniel Brhl and Felix Kammerer reunite for a new project. Brhl will direct Kammerer in Break, a period drama based on the life of Gottfried von Cramm, a German tennis champion in the 1930s. Brhl will go behind the camera again, while Kammerer will play von Cramm from a script by Oscar-nominated writer Hossein Amini. He adapts Marshall Jon Fisher's non-fiction book A Terrible Splendor: Three Extraordinary Men, a World Poised for War and the Greatest Tennis Match Ever Played. The film will be bilingual, in English and German.

Daniel Brühl is getting back behind the camera to direct “Break,” a biopic about the tennis champion Gottfried von Cramm whose rise to stardom in the 1930s saw him face off with the Nazi regime in his native Germany.

“All Quiet on the Western” front star Felix Kammerer will lead the feature, which reunites the actor, Bruhl and the team behind the Oscar-winning WWI drama. “Break” is based on a screenplay by Hossein Amini from Marshall Jon Fisher’s “A Terrible Splendor: Three Extraordinary Men, a World Poised for War, and the Greatest Tennis Match Ever Played.”

The Last Voyage of the Demeter boasts some of the most impressive production design in years. Set on a boat named the Demeter just a few years before dawn of the 20th century, an entire authentic 19th century boat was built just for this movie. Enhancing that authentic setting were the exceptionally crafted costumes, designed by legendary Italian costume designer Carlo Poggioli. The artist's career has seen him work on movies such as Van Helsing, Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, as well the endlessly epic 3D action movie, Ninja Assassin.

Sales agent Skoop Media has sold all rights to Les films du Preau for France, and Jef for Belgium, on Zara Dwinger’s feature debut. The film has also secured an all rights deal for China (Hugo East).

Kiddo follows a young girl in a children’s home who dreams of her mother, who the girl says is a Hollywood actress. When the mother arrives, the duo end up on a Bonnie And Clyde-style road-trip in search of hidden money.

Exclusive: Prolific producer and actor DeVon Franklin has set up two new scripted development projects at BET+ under his overall deal with CBS Studios, which is the studio for both.

The first project, Played, is a comedy in which Franklin would star. The second project, Closure, for BET and BET+, is a family drama inspired by the life of baseball Hall-of-Famer Andre Dawson turned funeral home owner. Franklin would executive produce both projects via his Franklin Entertainment.

Brendan Fraser is learning a lot from the cancellation of “Batgirl”.

The star of “The Whale”, along with director Darren Aronofsky, spoke with Variety at the Toronto International Film Festival about his new movie and shared his reaction to the news “Batgirl” wouldn’t be released.

“The fans really wanted to see this film made. Leslie Grace is a dynamo,” Fraser said of the film’s leading lady.

Fraser, who starred in the film as the villain Firefly, said he was “disappointed” by DC’s decision to shelve the nearly complete film, but said it was a valuable lesson for him.

Heather Lind, the former star of AMC’s political drama series “Turn: Washington Spies,” accused President George H. W. Bush of sexual assault in an Instagram post that has since been deleted. The actress wrote that the former President “touched me from behind” while taking a photo at a March 2014 press event celebrating the television series.

Lind said she believed the action classifies as sexual assault and felt that Bush viewed it as “an attempt at humor.” She wrote that a security guard blamed her for the action for standing too close to the President, while former First Lady Barbara Bush allegedly knew what occurred and “rolled her eyes.”

On Tuesday, December 27, Carrie Fisher passed away at the age of 60 after suffering a heart attack.

The actress, who immortalized the role of Princess Leia in the “Star Wars” franchise, had gone into cardiac arrest four days earlier when she was flying from London to Los Angeles. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she was being treated and later died.

Her tragic and sudden health issues shocked Fisher’s “Star Wars” co-stars and devoted fans, who took to Twitter to send prayers and messages of hope. Though days later, upon hearing the news of her death, the entertainment world and celebrities expressed their heartbreak on social media.

On the eve of X-Men: Days Of Future Past‘s release, social media was awash with chatter about one particular scene: Magneto’s breakout. The brilliant blend of technical wizardry and humor orbited around one pivotal character in the sequence, the boy who can move at the speed of light, Quicksilver. The mission to retrieve Magneto from the Pentagon proved to be a massive hit with fans; but it very nearly didn’t happen.

In fact, that scene was originally allotted for the reappearance of The Last Stand character Juggernaut. Played in the 2006 sequel by Vinnie Jones, DoFP writer and producer Simon Kinberg previously went on record to say he initially toyed with the idea of including a younger version of the character.

In the early years of the Premier League, having a hardman in your team was seen as a necessity. From Roy Keane to Stuart Pearce, the division was littered with players who prided themselves on their tough tackling and no nonsense approach. However, today such characters are a rarity.

Arsenal themselves have boasted several hardmen over the years. The start of Arsene Wenger’s reign was perhaps the dying embers of that type of player, with Tony Adams and co representing a throwback to the George Graham era.

Since then, it would be fair to say that the modern game has taken a shift. Out went the bruising tacklers and in came the tiki taka passers. It means we have witnessed less fighting and bone-crunching challenges, and more handbags and diving. A sight that must certainly infuriate Vinnie Jones and the rest of Wimbledon’s ‘Crazy Gang’.

The year 2009 will partly be remembered as the year Avatar dominating the box office, with audiences flocking to see James Cameron's leafy pulp epic in shimmering 3D. Making almost $2.8bn worldwide, Avatar was a true behemoth, besting Cameron's own Titanic as the highest-grossing film of all time (not adjusted for inflation) and hastening a rush of 3D films in the years that followed.

Films such as 2012, Sherlock Holmes and boozy comedy The Hangover were also among the top 10, but as always, some of the most memorable and individual films of the year were far from the most financially successful. When making a movie based on a superhero comic, there’s probably no aspect of production that will invite greater scrutiny than that pinnacle of all things superhero: the costume. And not to stereotype, but let's face it, gay and bisexual guys probably have a special interest in superhero costumes. We certainly have a definite appreciation for the often, um, revealing outfits sported by the male superheroes, while many of us can also appreciate the aesthetic styles worn by the women.

The 10th Tribeca Film Festival (April 20-May 1) announced Monday its feature film selections in the Spotlight and Cinemania sections, as well as Special Screenings and the Tribeca/Espn Sports Film Festival lineup.

Spotlight is comprised of 33 films, including 16 documentaries and 17 narratives, 16 of which will world premiere at the Festival. The Cinemania section offers an eclectic assortment of eight narrative films that defy categorization from all around the world.

Meanwhile, the Tribeca/Espn Sports Film Festival will feature the world premiere of Oscar-winning director Alex Gibney’s “Catching Hell” as its Centerpiece Gala. The film explores the relationship between Chicago Cubs fans and Steve Bartman following his infamous near-catch of a foul ball in Game 6 of the 2003 National League Championship Series.

The 10th Tribeca Film Festival (April 20-May 1) announced Monday its feature film selections in the Spotlight and Cinemania sections, as well as Special Screenings and the Tribeca/Espn Sports Film Festival lineup.

Spotlight is comprised of 33 films, including 16 documentaries and 17 narratives, 16 of which will world premiere at the Festival. The Cinemania section offers an eclectic assortment of eight narrative films that defy categorization from all around the world.

Meanwhile, the Tribeca/Espn Sports Film Festival will feature the world premiere of Oscar-winning director Alex Gibney’s “Catching Hell” as its Centerpiece Gala. The film explores the relationship between Chicago Cubs fans and Steve Bartman following his infamous near-catch of a foul ball in Game 6 of the 2003 National League Championship Series.

This year’s Tribeca will be running from Wednesday, April 20 to Sunday, May 1, so its close start date means that the lineup of movies are coming in fast. We’ve already gotten the World Narrative and World Documentary categories, and the next batch of movies have just been revealed.

Thanks to Deadline, we now have movies in the Spotlight, Cinemania, Special Screening and Sports categories. The list isn’t half bad; the one I’m looking forward to the most is The Guard, which got very strong reviews at Sundance earlier this year. All the categories seem to have solid picks, and I’d say this is shaping up to be a good year. Well, congratulations New Yorkers, because you’ll get to see at least 2 films I saw at Sundance in January, when they screen at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival, which just announced the second half of its festival lineup – the Spotlight, Cinemania, and Special Screening sections, most notably.

The films I’m referring to are Michael Rapaport’s Tribe Called Quest documentary, Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest, and The Guard, which Don Cheadle co-stars in, as an FBI agent (or is it CIA).

I’m still planning on going through the full list of entries to spotlight any titles worthy of this website, and I’ll do that in coming days/weeks… definitely before the festival begins next month – a festival I plan to attend, since it’s right in my backyard.

It's a scene that could only have been written in the 80s. In truth, there have been many great bathroom-based sequences put to celluloid, but if there is a better one than the standout scene in Lethal Weapon 2, I haven't seen it yet.

The sequence in which Sergeant Murtaugh is trapped on a booby-trapped loo, trading jokes and sentiments with Riggs, is the one that Lethal Weapon 2 will always be remembered for, and rightly so. For in that one moment, the film's over-the-top, hyperreal sensibility is laid bare for the viewer, and it's a master class in suspense, entertainment and emotion.

When I began this column, I originally intended to devote it to the teen actors who filled my childhood days with adolescent longing - cute youngsters like 3 Ninjas star Michael Treanor, the subject of last week's post - but watching the Olympics this weekend got me nostalgic for a certain figure skating romantic comedy that earned multiple replays in my Vcr throughout the mid-90s. I hope you've enjoyed reading it all - it's been utterly exhausting but an ultimately rewarding venture I've been single-handedly pulling together since early December. Wherever it goes, especially in Europe and the former Soviet states, "Georgia" will cause a lot of talk and controversy as the incidents depicted are still so fresh in many's minds. Like all topics of the sort, it'll also have its strong supporters and detractors having opinions on the film long before a frame of footage is screened anywhere.

CANNES -- First Look Studios has nabbed worldwide rights to Special, featuring Michael Rapaport as a comic book-loving meter maid who finds he has developed extraordinary superpowers. In Hal Haberman and Jeremy Passmore's first feature film, which premiered at January's Sundance Film Festival, Rapaport's ordinary Joe takes a mind-altering drug that sends him into a world of defying gravity, reading people's minds and walking through walls. First Look also has bought U.S. rights to the Northern Ireland action-thriller Johnny Was, executive producer Ben Katz said Saturday, adding that the movie also has been accepted for the Karlovy Vary film festival. That movie stars former soccer player Vinnie Jones (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels), Patrick Bergin (Played), former heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis and the Who's Roger Daltrey.
