However the shows that were planned between Christmas and New Year’s Eve have been cancelled.

The Sweatbox: The Banned Documentary Disney Doesn't Want You to See
Image
If you're no stranger to Disney home media, then you're aware of the cute things they'll put in their DVDs. You'll get the film's trailers, interviews with the cast, commentaries, and occasionally a documentary on the film's production. These documentaries are a classic way to promote the production of a movie, and they usually highlight the glamorous and fun parts of making it. But what if I told you that there was a documentary that Disney didn't want you to see? A documentary that didn't shy away from the warts and struggles that come with making a movie? That film would be The Sweatbox, which chronicled the production of a project titled Kingdom of the Sun, which would later transform into The Emperor's New Groove.

Like all movies, The Emperor's New Groove started as an idea. Way back in 1994 Roger Allers, having just finished directing a little film called The Lion King,...

Johnny Depp Says Hollywood Is Boycotting Him, Calls Fans His Real ‘Employers’
Image
Johnny Depp told The Sunday Times in a new interview that he is being boycotted by Hollywood.

Depp notably lost a libel case last year against The Sun, which referred to Depp as a “wife beater” while covering his divorce from Amber Heard. Depp exited Warner Bros.’ “Fantastic Beasts” franchise after the verdict and was replaced by Mads Mikkelsen. The actor’s latest film, the Andrew Levitas-directed drama “Minimata,” has not been dated for release. Levitas alleged MGM was “burying” the movie because it “was concerned about the possibility that the personal issues of an actor in the film could reflect negatively upon them.”

“Minamata” was picked up by MGM’s American International Pictures last fall. The film world premiered in February 2020 at the Berlin International Film Festival. Depp stars in the film as photojournalist Eugene Smith, and he also produced the movie. Smith traveled to Minamata, Japan in...

Queen's Brian May Is Looking at Ideas for Bohemian Rhapsody 2
Image
Bohemian Rhapsody just might get a sequel, as Queen guitarist Brian May has some ideas on where to take the potential follow-up. Released in 2018, the hit biopic focuses primarily on the life and musical career of Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury. Rami Malek famously starred as the iconic musician, and in addition to tremendous success at the box office, the movie is widely acclaimed and was a big winner at the Academy Awards.

Going live on Instagram, May recently explained that he's now working on getting Bohemian Rhapsody 2 developed following the success of the first movie. The 74-year-old admits that matching the original would be a challenge, but he says he's been having talks about different potential ideas. Even so, the project getting a green light will depend upon getting the right script, and that probably won't be happening anytime soon.

"We are looking at it. Yeah, we have been looking at ideas,...

‘Aquaman 2’ Producer Shuts Down Johnny Depp Fans Over Pressure to Fire Amber Heard
Amber Heard
“Aquaman 2” producer Peter Safran confirmed to Deadline that requests from Johnny Depp fans to have Amber Heard fired from the DC comic book tentpole are being ignored and shut down. The sequel, officially titled “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” is now in production with director James Wan and stars Jason Momoa and Heard. Johnny Depp fans rallied for Heard’s firing last fall with a viral online petition that has earned 1.8 million signatures and counting.

“I don’t think we’re ever going to react to, honestly, pure fan pressure,” Safran said. “You gotta do what’s best for the movie. We felt that if it’s James Wan, and Jason Momoa, it should be Amber Heard. That’s really what it was.”

Safran, who produces DC’s “Aquaman” franchise as well as “Shazam!” and “The Suicide Squad,” continued, “One is not unaware of what is going on in the Twitter-verse,...

Did Johnny Depp’s Fall From Grace Prompt MGM To “Bury” Japan Mercury Poisoning Drama ‘Minamata’? Read Letter Director Andrew Levitas Sent To Studio
Image
Exclusive: Director Andrew Levitas has sent a letter of complaint to MGM and others to protest what he claims is a decision to “bury” the film Minamata because of the personal baggage of its star, Johnny Depp. The film lays bare the scandalous neglect that the Chisso Corporation displayed in the Japanese coastal city where locals were ravaged by mercury poisoning from chemicals dumped into the waters by a factory, which spread to local population through the ingestion of fish. It was exposed in the 1950s.

In the film, Depp plays Eugene Smith, a famed photojournalist who has disconnected from the world but takes a final assignment from his Life magazine editor (Bill Nighy). He is accompanied by a Japanese translator (Minami) and encouraged by a local villager (Hiroyuki Sanada) as he helps expose decades of gross negligence by the Chisso Corporation. Minamata also stars Jun Kunimura, Ryo Kase, Tadanobu Asano and Akiko Iwase.

The channel will go live on Freeview channel 236, meaning it is below Rt and Aljazeera in the television guide. Other presenters include Neil himself, who will host his own show, and Alastair Stewart, a former ITV News anchor.

TikToker Leaks Video from Jeffrey Epstein's Abandoned Private Island
Image
Footage taken from Jeffrey Epstein's abandoned island has been shared on TikTok by "urban explorer" Andy Bracco. After infiltrating the island in August 2020, Bracco shared clips from the footage he'd recorded with a friend on TikTok last year, but he says his account was deleted soon after by the app. He reposted a clip of the endeavor to his new TikTok account in April, and new footage posted two days ago already has more than 200,000 views.

After the authenticity of his footage was questioned, Bracco referred followers to check out his vlogs of the experience on his YouTube account as well. The YouTube videos are edited with clips of Jeffrey Epstein included, also featuring Bracco and his friend arriving at the island at 6:30 a.m. one morning. After they were almost caught, they returned "12 hours later" and successfully explored more of the island. You can watch the footage from the YouTube videos below.

BBC Apologizes After Inquiry Concludes That Martin Bashir “Deceived” His Way To Bombshell Princess Diana Interview
Image
An independent inquiry into the tactics used by the BBC to secure a bombshell 1995 interview with Princess Diana has concluded that reporter Martin Bashir “deceived” his way to accessing the Princess of Wales, and that the BBC’s response to his deception was “woefully ineffective.”

The BBC has apologized unreservedly after the findings of Lord Dyson’s inquiry were published on Thursday following a six-month investigation by the former supreme court judge, which has cost the UK broadcaster £1.4 million ($2M).

The inquiry is being described in the UK press as the BBC’s phone-hacking moment and Dyson’s report effectively accuses the broadcaster of a cover-up. A cover-up that was ultimately overseen by Tony Hall, who was the BBC’s director general until just last year.

Incumbent BBC director general Tim Davie said: “Although the report states that Diana, Princess of Wales, was keen on the idea of an interview with the BBC,...

Alice Cooper Defends Johnny Depp: He Is the Most Harmless Human Being I've Ever Met
Image
Things haven't been going very well for Johnny Depp lately, but his "best friend" Alice Cooper still has his back. Though Depp is primarily known as an actor, the Pirates of the Caribbean and Edward Scissorhands star is also a skilled guitarist. Since 2015, he has been a part of the rock supergroup Hollywood Vampires, which also includes Cooper on lead vocals. Through their time working together, Depp and Cooper have gotten to be very close on a personal level as well.

Depp's career took a sudden turn for the worse following allegations from ex-wife Amber Heard that he had been physically and verbally abusive. The accusations were repeated in the press, with the British tabloid The Sun referring to him as a "wife-beater" in one article. Depp currently has a pending libel lawsuit against Heard in the United States, but his lawsuit against The Sun was rejected in court. The...

New ‘Luca’ Trailer: Make Best Friends On The Sun-Kissed Italian Riveria With A Sea Monster & Pixar
Image
One of the things Pixar does better than anyone, or all animated houses anyhow, is tapping into that feeling of youthful nostalgia and making it universal. What Pixar excel at, seemingly, is mix wistful coming of age stories about childhood or growing up and mix it with a fantasy element. And they’ve done that very thing for “Luca,” a new Disney/Pixar movie set on the Italian Riveria that mixes boyhood friendship with a tale of a seaside monster.

Netflix Slaps Down Report About ‘The Crown’ Producers Struggling To Cast Prince Andrew
Image
A Netflix representative for The Crown has denied a report that the lavish royal drama is struggling to cast an actor to play Prince Andrew in the final two seasons.

British tabloid The Sun claimed that producers at Left Bank Pictures have advertised for the role on casting website Spotlight. “Stars aren’t exactly queuing up to play him,” the newspaper quoted a source as saying, amid controversy surrounding Prince Andrew’s links to dead sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

But a spokeswoman for The Crown said: “There is absolutely no struggle to cast any role for season 5 of The Crown and it is normal practice for productions to advertise in Spotlight.”

As first revealed by Deadline, Season 5 of The Crown will go into production in June. A whole new cast is joining the series, including Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II and Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip. Prince Andrew was...

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Required Its Director to Take a Deep Dive Into Marvel Lore
Image
One of the most exciting aspects of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was the big-time surprise cameo from Julia Louis-Dreyfus as a prominent Marvel Comics character, Contessa Valentina Allegra de la Fontaine. Her appearance in the Disney+ original has opened up hundreds of possibilities for the future expansion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Though her appearance came in an unusual and unexpected manner, and she left without any major explanation as to what her character's purpose would be within the MCU.

Opening up about how her character came into shape in The Falcon And The Winter Soldier, series director Kari Skogland said this.

"I wasn't as aware of her. She's a deep dive, and I only became a fan of Marvel 10 or 15 years ago. So, I didn't know until I started looking into who she was and where she came from. But I also didn't know about Madripoor... and...

Bachelor, the new project from indie favorites Jay Som (Melina Duterte) and Palehound (Ellen Kempner), have released a new song, “Sick of Spiraling,” from their upcoming debut album Doomin’ Sun, out May 28th via Polyvinyl.

“Sick of Spiraling” finds Bachelor embracing a bit of a country twang while Big Thief drummer James Krivchenia anchors the track with a dusty shuffle. In between twisting guitar lines that drift seamlessly between high-and-lonesome and blown-out-basement-show, Kempner spins a clever but poignant yarn about longing and life on the road: “Walking alone at night,...

Zack Snyder's Rejected Batman v Superman Titles Revealed, and They're a Bit Strange
Image
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice came out a little more than five years ago. It remains a much-discussed, divisive comic book movie and one that has certainly earned its place in the history books. Now, director Zack Snyder and writer Chris Terrio have revealed that the movie we know was going to be titled something radically different. However, Warner Bros. wasn't into what Snyder and Terrio had in mind.

The two filmmakers recently took part in Justice Con over the weekend. During an online panel, they were discussing Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Zack Snyder explained that he wanted something more "poetic." One of Snyder's suggestions? Son of Sun and Knight of Knight. Here's what Snyder had to say about it.

"I remember when there was a back-and-forth that I had with the studio, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was like the only title that [Warner Bros. liked]. The whole 'v' instead of 'versus,...

The Truth About Victoria Beckham and David Beckham's Marriage: How They Continue to Defy the Haters
Victoria Beckham
They had just stepped out—hand-in-hand, wearing coordinated neutrals—when it happened again. Mere weeks after Victoria Beckham attended Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's wedding with husband David Beckham, rumors that they were due to announce a divorce imminently reached such a heightened state that bookies went so far as suspend bets. As everyone braced for the news, their shared rep fired off a missive to British paper The Sun. Except instead of detailing how the couple had reached the painfully difficult decision to amicably end their romantic relationship, choosing to continue on as friends and coparents, it slammed reports the couple were...

'1 in 5 youngsters too drunk to use protection during sex'
Image
London, March 3 (Ians) One-fifth of young adults forget to use contraception at the height of passion because they are too drunk to remember when having sex, says a study.

The study, commissioned by OnePoll with 1,200 participants aged between 16-25 years, indicates that many youngsters are taking unforeseen risks due to a lack of knowledge, education and intoxication.

The study showed that four in 10 have had sex during a night of drinking alcohol, while 13 per cent have had intercourse and not remembered the following day whether they had used protection or not, reports The Sun.

"We need to arm our young people with as much information as possible before they get to the point where they are experimenting with sex and drink," said Joanna Buckard, a spokeswoman for The National Organisation for Fasd (Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder) in the UK.

"It would seem that while sex education in schools covers broad...

Giant cats, lasers, witches, violence and partial nudity fill the first English-language trailer for Crudo Film’s animated Argentine feature “Lava,” featuring the voice acting talents of Janeane Garofalo. Rock Salt Releasing, which is representing the over-the-top, end-of-the-world comedy thriller at this week’s EFM ahead of its March 15 premiere on major digital platforms, has given exclusive access to the trailer to Variety.

An outside-the-box hit at Annecy’s Contrechamp competition last summer, the film has since featured at several major international festivals including Argentina’s Mar Del Plata and Spain’s Sitges, where it screened in competition.

The near-future sci-fi satire follows Débora (Garofalo), a lonely and ineffectual tattoo artist, and her friends through the likely end of the world. One evening, several friends come over to watch the latest episode of “Gain of Clones” when suddenly the signal cuts out. Everyone in the room loses two minutes of...

Delayed Again! Johnny Depp’s $50M Defamation Trial Against Amber Heard Pushed To Next Year
Image
Exclusive: Johnny Depp and Amber Heard won’t be facing off in a Virginia courtroom anytime soon, it seems. In yet another delay in the trial start of the former Pirates of the Caribbean star’s acetous $50 million defamation lawsuit against the Aquaman actress, the former couple now will trade barbs and evidence starting April 11, 2022. The trial is expected to last about two weeks.

Already rescheduled several times, the trial had been set to start May 7, which was looking like the final mad rush of discovery and depositions.

The new date was decided Tuesday by Fairfax County Circuit Court Chief Judge Bruce White. The last time the fuming matter was postponed was back in September of last year. While Depp had been advocating for a new delay then because of his Fantastic Beasts 3 shooting schedule, White actually pushed the date from January 2021 to May due to backlogs in the state...

Int’l Critics Line: Anna Smith On Taiwan’s Oscar-Shortlisted ‘A Sun’
Image
Next time someone asks what’s good on Netflix, you might want to point them to this winner that’s been lurking there since January 2020. A victor at the Golden Horse Awards and now shortlisted for the International Feature Film Oscar, A Sun is a bold, involving tale of crime, punishment, tragedy and healing — all within a seemingly ordinary family of four in Taiwan.

The trouble, and the film, starts when a teenager known as A-ho (Wu Chien-Ho), storms into a restaurant with Radish, who’s wielding a machete. A-ho, we later learn, thinks they are going to scare a boy called Oden, but Radish goes one step further and slices Oden’s hand off, catapulting it into a pan of hot, fresh soup. It’s clear that this film means business. But while the opening has the violence and flourish of a gangster movie, writer-director Chung Mong-hong (Parking) takes...

Video Sundays: Beyond Representation—1990s Asian American Film & Video
Image
Following its initial run last May and June, Sentient.Art Film. has revived the series "My Sight is Lined With Visions: 1990s Asian American Film & Video" as a year-long program, helmed by Sentient.Art.Film Artistic Director Keisha Knight and co-curator Abby Sun. The history of Asian American film and video is shaped by what B. Ruby Rich and Brian Hu describe (in Film Quarterly's recent dossier on fifty years of Asian American cinema) as its "public-ness." Through the initiatives of community-based media arts organizations like the Center for Asian American Media and Visual Communications, burgeoning Asian American filmmakers strove to generate cultural consciousness, just as the term "Asian American" entered the national vocabulary. In the "public" tradition of Asian American cinema, and against the limitations imposed by the pandemic, this series challenges barriers of access by making these hard-to-find titles available online. You can rent the entire selection until...

Anne Hathaway Says Being Hated After Oscar Win Was ‘a Really Good Thing for Me’
Image
It was nearly eight years ago when Anne Hathaway swept awards season with her performance as Fantine in Tom Hooper’s “Les Misérables,” which won Hathaway the Best Supporting Actress prizes at the Baftas, SAG Awards, Golden Globes, and Academy Awards. The actress became a target of internet backlash throughout awards season, which intensified after her Oscar win. In a 2014 appearance on “Ellen,” Hathaway revealed she googled herself after the Oscars and discovered an article titled, “Why does everyone hate Anne Hathaway?”

With eight years of growth behind her since Oscar night, Hathaway told The Sun this month that she chooses to see the positives that emerged from being the subject of extreme internet hate. The actress said the backlash forced her to build self-confidence that might not have been built otherwise.

“I really don’t want to dredge up the past but I did have my monster out there,...

[They pulled up beside us] with the big guns and they were like, 'Yeah, you've got to get off your truck.'" According to Wilson,...

Image
Black Narcissus and How to Build a Girl actress Gemma Arterton has spoken out about her time as a Bond girl in Quantum of Solace.

Arterton’s character ultimately becomes the target of Bond’s enemies and dies smothered in crude oil.

Arterton, who has also appeared in Prince of Persia: Sands of Time and Clash of the Titans, said she took the Bond role out of much needed exposure and income.

“At the beginning of my career, I was poor as a church mouse and I was happy just to be able to work and earn a living,...

Mads Mikkelsen Hasn’t Talked To Johnny Depp About Fantastic Beasts 3 Role
As David Yates and his crew continue with filming on the third installment in the Fantastic Beasts franchise, the team has to adjust to newcomer Mads Mikkelsen, who’ll be taking over for Johnny Depp as the villainous Grindelwald from here on out.

After the UK court ruled against the Pirates of the Caribbean star in his libel case against The Sun, Warner Bros. asked him to step away from the Wizarding World’s spinoff series. The verdict, which was questionable in and of itself, and the outcome subsequently led to a lot of rage and backlash on social media. In fact, Depp’s supporters are still ferociously campaigning to have the company rehire the actor. Though clearly, their pleas are falling on deaf ears.

For now, it seems that WB will push forward with Mads Mikkelsen as Grindelwald. And to be fair, it’s not an entirely unreasonable choice when you think about it.

Filming Continues On The Witcher Season 2 Despite Henry Cavill Injury
Season 2 of Netflix’s hit show The Witcher has encountered yet another production roadblock.

As reported by The Sun yesterday, Henry Cavill, who plays central character Geralt of Rivia in the series, sustained a leg injury while traversing an assault course at Arborfield Studios near London, necessitating a brief period of respite to facilitate his recovery. While the accident isn’t believed to be anything other than a minor muscle sprain, the actor is nonetheless out of action for the foreseeable future, unfortunate circumstances that many have presumed will lead to further delays.

Thankfully, however, while this means that scenes in which he’s intended to appear will need to be reconsidered, Deadline reports that filming is still set to continue without the star, a decision no doubt influenced by the fact that a third suspension simply isn’t feasible if season 2 is to meet its projected 2021 release window.

Henry Cavill Injured on ‘Witcher’ Set but Production Continues in the UK
Image
Filming on the second season of the popular Netflix series “The Witcher” is continuing despite its star, Henry Cavill, reportedly sustaining a minor leg muscle injury. Production on the fantasy show was already halted twice this year — first in March, when actor Kristofer Hivju announced that he had tested positive for Covid-19. That hiatus lasted through mid-August during the UK’s spring lockdown. Production resumed, though paused again in November when multiple positive coronavirus cases surfaced. The series is currently shooting at Arborfield Studios, west of London.

According to The Sun, which first reported the news, a source said, “The filming has been hit because of what happened to Henry. He was on an assault course and injured his leg,” adding, “He just suddenly pulled up and was clearly in a lot of pain. It wasn’t clear if an object had hit his leg or it was some sort of hamstring or muscle injury.

The Masked Singer Finale: Everything You Need to Know to Guess Crocodile, Mushroom and Sun's Identities
Image
The Masked Singer will be masked no more come Wednesday’s Season 4 finale (Fox, 9/8c), so now’s the time to lock in your guesses about Crocodile, Mushroom and Sun!

In our opinion, this season of the really odd reality show has had the toughest, most misdirecting clues in the show’s history. But it’s also had some of the series’ best performances (we’re still thinking about Seahorse/Tori Kelly’s gorgeous rendition of “My Heart Will Go On”) and one of its weirdest firsts (Mickey Rourke’s Gremlin stunt, anyone?).

‘The Masked Singer’: Here’s Who Was — Or Wasn’t — Unmasked Before Next Week’s Finale
Image
Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched Season 4, Episode 12 of “The Masked Singer,” which aired Dec. 9 on Fox.

The unmaskings took a week off, as Wednesday’s episode of Fox’s “The Masked Singer” was instead a special one-hour holiday-themed sing-a-long edition.

The competition returns next week with the Season 4 finale and the presentation of the Golden Mask trophy. But for now, viewers were treated to some of the most memorable performances from this fall — along with lyrics and a bouncing mask, for fans to sing along.

Besides reprises of performances from earlier in the season, the episode also featured new, holiday-themed songs from the show’s three finalists: Sun, Crocodile and Mushroom.

Sun performed “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” while Crocodile sang “Silent Night” and Mushroom did “The Christmas Song.”

Panelists, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Nicole Scherzinger, Robin Thicke and Ken Jeong also got a week off from the guessing game.
