Roy Campion arrives in Glasgow to clear up his late brother's affairs. He needs John Balfour to sign a document but Tessa Bannerman disguised has his 'wife' steals them. Inspector Napier informs him that John Balfour is wanted for murder.
A journalist tells Campion that John Balfour escaped to Australia but Gowrie Bannerman had him found and killed. Campion tracks his sister Jean and tells her if she has prove of death then a very wealthy estate he is holding will be hers.
Gowrie Bannerman is covering up all traces of Balfour. Receptionist Selma is murdered after telling Campion she saw Michael Bannerman after he was believed murdered. Campion confronts Gowrie but misjudges the power of his family's reach.
