Exclusive: Sherri Shepherd has signed with UTA for representation in all areas.

Shepherd is a Daytime Emmy award-winning talk show host, comedian, actress, and best-selling author widely known for her presence across television, film, and live entertainment.

With a career spanning three decades, Shepherd is currently the host of her own nationally syndicated talk show, Sherri, which launched in 2022 and was renewed for a fourth season earlier this year. According to a report from Deadline, Lionsgate’s Debmar-Mercury daytime talk show will return to the Fox Television Stations, as well as those owned by Nexstar, Hearst, Sinclair, Gray, Tegna and Sunbeam, for the 2025-26 season. The show has earned multiple accolades, including a 2024 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Talk Show Host, and four 2023 Daytime Emmy Awards nominations.

Shepherd received a group Daytime Emmy Award alongside her The View co-stars Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, and Barbara Walters in 2009.

On September 22, 1989, ABC launched a Friday primetime block of shows aimed at revitalizing one of TV’s most difficult nights to program by consolidating two hours of family-oriented comedies. It was called Tgif to trade on the familiarity of the phrase “Thank God it’s Friday,” although officially it stood for “Thank goodness it’s funny” to avoid legal issues with the Tgi Fridays restaurant chain.

An integral part of the Black sitcom boom of the 1990s, "Living Single" remains a timeless series among the rest. There are so many qualities about the show that makes it great television: satisfying growth for characters (even the supporting ones), sharp comedic writing; thoughtful episodes addressing workplace racism, sexism, homosexuality, and mental health; the portrayal of chosen family as a legitimate network of support. "Living Single" is like "Sex and the City" if it had a sitcom, network TV format.

It inspired series within its era and beyond -- it was the partial inspiration for "Friends," and paved the way for another all-Black female sitcom in the 2000s, "Girlfriends." The lasting impact of the show makes it one of the best TV shows of the 1990s.

Amazon is going to take a crack at Barbershop as a TV series two decades after the last attempt didn't work out so well. Though the Barbershop franchise has found success with several feature films, the hope is that a new series with Jermaine Fowler (Ricky Stanicky) on board will be a stremaing hit on Prime Video.

Per Deadline, it's been reported that Prime Video has officially ordered to series an all-new Barbershop show starring Fowler in the lead role. The series is based on the Barbershop films, and it comes from Marshall Todd, the co-writer of the original movie. Todd is writing and will executive produce alongside co-showrunner Max Searle (Dave). Other EPs include Hart, Bryan Smiley, and Mike Stein for Hartbeat; Bradley Gardner; Cameron Burnett, and Autumn Bailey-Ford for Prominent Productions; and State Street Pictures.

The show will connect to the universe of the “Barbershop” film franchise, with Jermaine Fowler attached to star. Marshall Todd, who co-wrote the original film, is writing the series and executive producing. The announcement was made during Amazon’s upfronts presentation to advertisers in New York on Monday night.

Alicia Silverstone is attached to reprise the role of Cher Horowitz in a “Clueless” sequel series at Peacock, Variety has learned.

The show is currently in development. Exact plot details are being kept under wraps aside from the fact the show will serve as a follow-up to the cult classic film.

Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are attached to write along with Jordan Weiss. All three will executive produce, with Schwartz and Savage doing so under their Fake Empire banner. Silverstone will executive produce in addition to starring. Amy Heckerling, who wrote and directed the film, and Robert Lawrence, who produced the film, also serve as executive producers. CBS Studios will produce in association with Universal Television.

Three film and television studios that center Black stories are coming together to produce a slate of hip-hop biopics — and they’ve announced that Queen Latifah’s will be first. Neither a writer nor director has been announced yet, but Queen Latifah herself will be one of the producers through her company, Flavor Unit Entertainment. Will Smith’s Westbrook Studios and Jesse Collins’ Jesse Collins Entertainment are also on board for Latifah’s biopic.

A feature about the life of Queen Latifah is in the works as the first in a slate of independently financed hip-hop biopics hailing from Flavor Unit Entertainment, Westbrook Studios and Jesse Collins Entertainment.

The film will follow the ascension of Latifah as the performer became a rapper, singer and actress who has won Emmy, Grammy and Golden Globe awards. HarbourView Equity Partners is financing this film, in addition to future biopics that also will spotlight iconic hip-hop performers.

It has not yet been announced who will be writing or directing the Latifah project.

Producers for the film include Latifah and Shakim Compere for Flavor Unit Entertainment, Will Smith and Miguel Melendez for Westbrook Studios, and Jesse Collins and Dionne Harmon for Jesse Collins Entertainment. Other original TV titles of note are the Steven Soderbergh-directed Full Circle (July 13) and the third and final season of How To With John Wilson on July 28.

On the movie side of things, documentary Glitch: The Rise and Fall of HQ Trivia premieres on July 20. Before that on July 13 is both a fresh reboot of filmmaking competition Project Greenlight and the movie that came of it, Gray Matter. Library movies in July include Pulp Fiction, V for Vendetta, Lethal Weapon, and more on July 1.

The original Max series “Full Circle” debuts on July 13. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, the new drama investigates a kidnapping gone wrong in New York, revealing the secrets and lies of multiple characters. Or as the trailer warns: “Everything is connected.” The six-episode limited series stars Zazie Beetz, Claire Danes, Jim Gaffigan, Jharrel Jerome, Timothy Olyphant, and Dennis Quaid.

The four-part documentary “Last Call: When A Serial Killer Stalked Queer New York” is set in the early 1990s as the AIDS crisis worsens. The media’s distorted coverage of the gay victims, coupled with the homophobic biases of the criminal justice system, undermine the investigation. The docuseries — which premieres on Max on July 9 — illustrates how the LGBTQ+ community fought to solve the murders and demand attention for those murdered.

Max’s July 2023 schedule includes the premiere of the drama Full Circle and the return of Shark Week. The hot summer month’s lineup also includes the final season of How To With John Wilson, the premiere of Project Greenlight, and the final episodes of the popular comedy The Righteous Gemstones.

The two-part documentary The Golden Boy about the life and career of Oscar De La Hoya joins the streaming service’s lineup on July 24th. Shaun White: The Last Run, a docuseries about the Olympian, is set to premiere on July 6th.

Amazon Studios has identified a batch of titles from its $8.45 billion acquisition of MGM that the company plans to develop into TV or film projects, including “Robocop,” “Stargate” “Legally Blonde,” “Fame,” Barbershop,” “The Magnificent Seven,” “Pink Panther” and “The Thomas Crown Affair.”

A source familiar with the matter confirmed to TheWrap that the company is in active early conversations for a “Legally Blonde” movie and potential TV series. Additionally, Amazon has similar plans for “Stargate” under consideration, with a movie expected to go first. “Robocop” is also being discussed for film and TV, with a TV series potentially going first.

The source added that Amazon Studios is actively developing TV series based on “Fame,” “Barbershop” and “The Magnificent Seven,” as well as discussing “Thomas Crown Affair” movie and “Pink Panther” movie, which could be animated. A “Poltergeist” project is also under consideration.

CBS is sticking with “The Talk” talent to host this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards, but with a twist: This year, Sheryl Underwood will handle solo duties. The Eye network announced on Tuesday that Underwood will host the 48th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, which airs on Friday, June 25 at 8 p.m. Et on CBS, as well as streaming live on Paramount Plus.

This is the fifth time that Underwood has hosted the show; in the past, she has done it with her “The Talk” colleagues. Exclusive: Disney Channel has handed a pilot order to Saturdays, a single-camera comedy about a young girl and her competitive roller skating crew, from 16-year-old Black-ish star Marsai Martin via her Genius Entertainment and writer-executive producer Norman Vance Jr.. Charles Stone III will direct.

Written by Vance, the pilot centers on Paris Johnson, played by Danielle Jalade (Yes Day), a 13-year-old girl who has spent most of her life roller-skating.

Saturdays follows Paris, who, since the age of four, has been honing her skills on the cool parquet floor of Saturdays, a local skating rink owned and operated by a former ’90s hip-hop back-up dancer. With its neon lights, galaxy-painted rink and killer D.J. spinning the latest music, Saturdays is the place to show and prove. Paris is the leader of a skate crew and is determined to take them all the way to the top.

A 90s cult classic is getting the remake treatment. Treehouse Pictures is developing a Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead remake with director Billie Woodruff attached. This new version will be set in modern-day and is being described as "diverse." It will reportedly center on a black family but, beyond that, no specific details regarding the new take were revealed at this time.

According to the initial report, Chuck Hayward is set to pen the screenplay. Hayward previously wrote Netflix's Step Sisters, in addition to serving as a producer on Mixed-Ish. Treehouse President Justin Nappi is set to produce the movie alongside Oren Segal and Juliet Berman. Michael Phillips, Juliana Maio and Tova Laiter will serve as executive producers. Nappi had this to say about it in a statement.

Exclusive: Treehouse Pictures has set in motion what it’s describing as a diverse remake of 1991 coming-of-age comedy, Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead, which is being written by Chuck Hayward with Bille Woodruff attached to direct. Hayward’s take is a present-day retelling centered on a black family.

Treehouse’s Justin Nappi and Juliet Berman are producing along with Oren Segal. Executive producers are Michael Phillips — also an Ep on the original — Juliana Maio and Tova Laiter.

The 1991 film, which was directed by Stephen Herek, starred Christina Applegate, Joanna Cassidy and Josh Charles. It follows Sue Ellen Crandell, a teenager who is forced to take charge of her four younger siblings when their mom leaves town and the wicked babysitter her mother hired suddenly dies. Despite the fact that the film wasn’t a huge success critically or commercially, it amassed a significant cult following.

Queen Latifah is set to star in a potential reboot of the TV series “The Equalizer” at CBS.

The new series has received a pilot production commitment at the broadcaster. It is described a reimagining of the classic series in which Queen Latifah portrays an enigmatic figure who uses her extensive skills to help those with nowhere else to turn.

The original series starred Edward Woodward and ran for four seasons on CBS between 1985 and 1989. It was co-created by Richard Lindheim and Michael Sloan. It was then adapted into two feature films starring Denzel Washington in the title role, with the first debuting in 2014 and the second in 2018.

When Queen Latifah walked across the stage at her Tribeca Film Festival talk on Friday, moderator and director Dee Rees (“Mudbound”) declared “all hail the Queen.” Looking at Latifah’s career, she’s certainly earned the praise.

The actress, musician, entrepreneur, and author started out in hip-hop, a notoriously “misogynistic” industry, she said. When she came onto the scene in the ‘80s and made a name for herself despite male domination, rappers like Ice-t and Big Daddy Kane took notice and doled out respect.

“At the end of the day, it’s about women feeling good about themselves from the inside out,” Latifah said. “You want to carry yourself with an attitude that uplifts. The Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning actor-musician-producer is coming off Universal’s big hit comedy Girls Trip, which made more than $140 million worldwide; the cast has a deal to return for a sequel but no greenlight yet from the studio.

Flavor Unit, founded by Latifah and business partner Shakim Compere, has produced award-winning films including Beauty Shop, The Perfect Holiday, Just Wright and Bessie, as well as HBO’s Life Support. More recently, Latifah and Compere produced The Real Mvp: The Wanda Pratt Story, The Best Place to Be, Curvy Style with Timothy Snell, The Perfect Match and The Rap Game.
