One of the funniest things I've seen in years, but definitely not for those with conventional, mainstream tastes.
The "California" episode is one of the best.
His German accent falls apart from time to time, but the "look" is perfect German Geek, and the recurring speedo scenes evoke the height of Euro beach sensibility. Yes, they still love speedo's on the other side of the water.
This show should be inspirational for anyone who wants to do comedy on a shoestring budget. Proof positive that you don't need high production values to get laughs if you're creative enough.

I stumbled onto this show. It was the one where Gerhardt gets hooked on coca and is kidnapped by militant rebels. I was fascinated, asking myself what the heck I was watching. I soon saw more and was floored.
I was none to surprised to then learn that Tom Stern was behind this show. That explained why it was so funny...well at least to a degree. He's Alex Winter's (ya know...Bill from Bill&Ted) college buddy. They had a great show called The Idiot Box back in the day on MTV and made a major motion picture called Freaked (also great) that got totally screwed over by their studio and was never really released properly.
The world needs more of his kind of humor. Too bad about 10 years ago good comedy (kind of like music) just went BYE-BYE! I'm thinking Get a Life and late 80's SNL. Lots of intelligent surreal humor back in the late 80's/early 90's. I blame Seinfeld (which I love, of course.) After him every sitcom had to be about four people sitting around their apartment. Thank goodness for Conan I guess.
This show is for smart people who like wacked out comedy. God bless you.

This show is insane. He travels the world, goes to countries and experiences their culture as a whacked out german, does insane things, and puts himself into funny situations that aren't like sitcom situations, but situations just so odd and out of the ordinary that is blows you away.
He isn't actually german, it is an accent, but the show is awesome, you must watch it so that comedy central doesn't cancel it.
Seeing pepe lucho go crazy, seeing gerhard and "nugz", seeing gerhard suffer from nervousness of peeing in front of people, and hearing his fantastic songs (including his use of that weird german synthesizer at an irish pub).
Watch it once, you'll be addicted. AWESOME.
If you are reading this, "Gerhard", please respond post haste.

I was lucky enough to catch an all episode marathon (read: 5) of this show a couple months ago on quite late at night. At first, I didn't know what to make of it but after seeing the Andes/Bolivia episode I knew that this had risen to my top ten TV show list. The show is in the "mockumentary" style of Christopher Guest's movies (Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind) and Rob Reiner's Spinal Tap. The humor isn't always spot on, but the humorous repetition of certain gags is reminiscent of The Simpsons.
I was quite surprised to see that the show was produced by the same people that produced Crank Yankers and The Man Show. Another commentator mentioned that there are obvious correlations in the humor, but aside from a couple genital jokes it's pretty clean and not as course as that of the other Comedy Central shows. If you're lucky enough to catch an episode, and appreciate dry, off-color wit, I'm sure you'll enjoy the show! I taped a couple of shows when I had the chance because it's not the easiest show to explain: you just have to see it. And those I've shown it to have been quite pleased!

I wasn't surprised when I saw that Jimmy Kimmel is behind this show and crank yankers. Kimmel's brand of gross-out, bathroom humor is taking over the entertainment world, or so it seems. There is an odd fascination with male genitalia running through the show. Some examples are Gerhard's constant thong wearing, things spilling out of his speedos, pee shyness, masturbation terms, etc...certainly a long way from the man show's juggies. It can be stomach-churning at times, but also very hilarious.
