This movie compare modern India to traditional India with two characters Nammo played by the Tara Deshpande, is a successful model embittered by her parents divorce, no longer believes in marriage and social conventions while her friend Lajjo from a small town in Rajasthan is conventional and old fashioned. The film tackles bold subjects- widow remarriage, the ill treatment of Hindu widows, the stereotyping of women who work, wear modern clothes or drink. Tara Deshpande is fabulous as the hard, tough street smart city girl and Ellora is well cast as her homely friend. The music could have been better as could the production values but its a very interesting contrast that brings out the old and new in a fast changing country

The story of Tapish is one every westerner should see. Ellora Patnaik serves as our guide thru modern day India, that still isn't so modern. The beautiful locations serve as winning backdrop to convey the message of Tapish.A skillfully crafted tale that isn't all glitz and glamour, where most Bollywood flicks fail. Patnaik is a definitely a star in the making. Holding the screen all on her own,Patnaik's stelllar performance is riviting and compassionate,as she struggles through societies clichés and social boundaries.Along with a wonderful cast,great score and brave and honest director, she delivers us to trials and wonders of what it is to transform from girl to woman in 21st century India.
