Sladko i gorchivo

Bulgaria was a different country back then (1975), a member of the Soviet bloc with severe limitations on young people... The schools were strict, life was difficult, yet basic living expenses were manageable. Because the film business was government-sponsored, this film was a rare find at the time, and it differed from the propaganda machine's regular releases!

When I was 15 years old and visiting Varna and the Golden Sands for a summer vacation, this picture was in theatres, and most of the teens lined up to see it four or five times! I didn't go because the camel rides and the water seemed more appealing at the time. So, today, I had the opportunity to observe, 50 years later, what Bulgarian youngsters were most interested about.

A great black and white film, extremely dark for its time, about a young man who makes a costly mistake! Ilya Velchev expertly guided us to the conclusion, where, in a cruel twist of fate, bodies had to be counted...

A part of the Bulgarian film history that I enjoyed watching!

This movie has literary only one or two dialogues and contains a very bizarre fact. One of the characters in the movie commits suicide by tying a rope to a cow. In the rest of the movie, the characters are always chasing through the corn.

It probably has this high rating being rated by the filmmakers, actors and their families.
