Pierce Brosnan’s 18% Rotten Tomatoes Post-Bond Nightmare Returns to Streaming
Image
Pierce Brosnan will always be known for his work as James Bond, but just a few years after he suited up as 007 for the final time, he led a star-studded thriller that’s finally coming back to streaming. Brosnan stars alongside Woody Harrelson (True Detective), Salma Hayek (Grown Ups), and Don Cheadle (Iron Man 2) in After the Sunset, a 2004 heist film following a master thief who pulls off his last big score, and an FBI agent who promised he’d capture him. After previously not streaming anywhere, Netflix has swooped in and made the film available to watch for all subscribers starting at the beginning of this month on August 1. After the Sunset earned abysmal scores of 18% from critics and 52% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and the film grossed only $62 million at the box office against a $60 million budget.

Robin Williams and Jeff Bridges in La leggenda del re pescatore (1991)
Here’s What’s Leaving HBO Max in January 2022
Robin Williams and Jeff Bridges in La leggenda del re pescatore (1991)
Time is running out to stream films like “Lincoln,” “The Fisher King” and “He Got Game” on HBO Max. Below is the complete list of everything leaving HBO and HBO Max in January 2022, which includes some classic “Planet of the Apes” films, Ben Affleck’s Oscar-winning “Argo” and 1988’s “Married to the Mob,” among others. Most of these titles leave the streaming service on Jan. 31, but departing HBO and HBO Max on Jan. 20 is a behind-the-scenes look at Guillermo del Toro’s new film “Nightmare Alley,” which is exclusively in theaters now.

If you’re looking for noteworthy titles to add to your watchlist before they depart, “Lincoln” is one of Steven Spielberg’s best, “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy” is a handsome and nail-biting spy thriller and “The Fisher King” is a great two-hander with Jeff Bridges and Robin Williams.

HBO Max New Releases: October 2020
Jurnee Smollett and Jonathan Majors in Lovecraft Country (2020)
With Lovecraft Country still providing HBO and HBO Max with its horror content through October, the streamer is looking elsewhere for its spooky season offerings. HBO Max’s new releases for October 2020 feature some truly awesome horror library titles.

Jordan Peele’s Us, John Carpenter’s The Thing, and David Fincher’s Se7en all arrive on Oct. 1. That alone should be enough to last you through spooky season. And if it doesn’t, It: Chapter Two is right there as well. October is also a big month for Batman and Superman with Man of Steel arriving on Oct. 1 along with a whole of animated specials dropping that same day.

In relation to the library titles, this isn’t HBO Max’s strongest month from an original perspective. But there is still plenty to like here. The West Wing election special arrives on Oct. 15. That will be followed by David Byrne...

HBO Max Announces Over 150 New Movies/Shows For October
Image
HBO Max is serving up a lot of great new movies this October. Fittingly for the spooky season, the Warner Bros. streaming service is adding a fair few classic horrors to its library next month, but there’s really something for everyone going up – from comedies to romances to sci-fi to superhero films.

Speaking of that last genre, DC lovers will be pleased to note that 2013’s Man of Steel, the movie that kicked off the Dceu, is among the titles arriving on October 1st. Besides that, there’s a bunch of animated DC pics dropping the same day, including Superman/Batman: Public Enemies and All-Star Superman. 2005’s Constantine featuring Keanu Reeves, meanwhile, also debuts on the service from the 1st.

That’s not the only film starring the beloved actor headed to the platform, though, as probably the highlight of October’s haul is the addition of the...

Some Kind of Beautiful | Review
Some Kind of Nonsense: Vaughan’s Unintentional Antithesis of the RomCom

Not long into Some Kind of Beautiful, the new film from director Tom Vaughan, a man best known for his 2008 Ashton Kutcher/Cameron Diaz film What Happens in Vegas, it becomes achingly clear that someone, somewhere pitched this film with intentions of crafting a romantic comedy. However, the film wasn’t painted in shades of either, and has the opposite effect of deadening emotional receptors. Staunchly filled with resolutely sturdy clichés in the hoary tradition of the aging lothario coming to uncertain terms with his playboy instinct and need for companionship, Vaughan and first time screenwriter Matthew Newman glide through this set-up with an icy dazedness, as if daring us to wade through its fretful yet uneventful schemes to an outcome prophesized from the moment its three leads converge.

Richard (Pierce Brosnan) is a Cambridge poetry professor, aging gracefully...

Julianne Moore Becomes Oscar Frontrunner!
The whole year, I have been looking for The Oscar season frontrunner for Best Actress. I was hoping Shailene Woodley from "The Fault in Our Stars" would squeak in, but now, the lovely, talented, and ultra-sweet Julianne Moore is the one to beat!

Her double whammy performances for "Map to the Stars" and "Still Alice" solidify that notion. And just this morning, the Palm Springs International Film Festival just called her The best actress of the year! Moore will be receiving the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress, at the festival's Awards Gala.

I can't wait! I will be on the red carpet to chat it up with the fantastic Miss Moore! She will be joining the equally talented Eddie Redmayne from "The Theory of Everything" at the gala where the actor is set to receive the Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actor.

Here's the full press release from the Psiff:

Julianne Moore Named Best Actress At Palm Springs International Film Festival
Julianne Moore
Julianne Moore might be the hottest actress in the Oscar race this year, and most voters haven’t even seen her film yet. This four-time Oscar nominee and Emmy winner for Game Change is considered overdue for a win. Still Alice, in which she plays a victim of early-onset Alzheimer’s, offers her a great opportunity to finally take home that statuette, and today the Palm Springs International Film Festival announced that she will receive the Actress prize at this year’s gala on January 3. Eddie Redmayne was previously announced for the fest’s Actor prize, and both are considered front-runners in the Oscar race, so Psiff is just jumping on the bandwagon.

Every precursor award a contender can get just makes them seem more inevitable for the final win. Moore certainly is deserving, and it is looking like her year. In May, she won the Best Actress prize at...

Spotlight on the Stars: Pierce Brosnan
For this week’s spotlight piece, I wanted to take a go a bit old school and take a look at an A-lister who’s been around for a while now…Pierce Brosnan. A very charming actor, he went from being well known and well liked on television to a mega star when he became one of the notable few ever to essay the role of secret agent 007 in the James Bond franchise. Brosnan has also been one of the more successful post Bond actors, doing his best not to be defined by the iconic role. As such, he’s retained that A-list status and is well deserving of today’s spotlight piece. Here we go! Brosnan had his beginnings on television, in made for TV movies and bit parts, before he became a known commodity with his series Remington Steele. That show made him a small screen star (and...

Alexa Vega Joins Nashville
Fans of country music based drama Nashville can expect to see a few new faces this season. Alex Vega from Sky Kids and Brette Taylor from Laws of Attraction will be on the show this season. Their reoccuring roles for the show. We are not sure where they will come into place or how many episodes they will be on. Not much info has been released yet, thus we will have to wait and see when they do.

This is exciting news as Alexa has been very passionate about music. Sure, she will likely be singing country, but it will give her the best of both worlds. Nashville has a pretty strong following and has done well for a show of its kind. However, they have also had their issues and filming in places with high taxes has not been their friend. Luckily they worked it out, so Brette and...

Reasonable Doubt Trailer Promises Thrills And Chills From Samuel L. Jackson
VOD is where it’s at these days. In recent weeks, various titles have been scheduled to land on-demand before opening in theaters, from Lars von Trier’s four-hour-long sex epic Nymphomaniac to the Sharlto Copley-starring mind-bender Open Grave. The trend seems like it’ll only continue growing through next year, with simultaneous VOD-theatrical release dates being added to the calendar on a daily basis.

One film taking that road to release is Reasonable Doubt, which stars Dominic Cooper and Samuel L. Jackson. Today, we have the first trailer for the movie, clearing up a few plot aspects and promising a very fast-moving thriller. Check it out below:

Though the film’s plot reminds me an awful lot of The Lincoln Lawyer, the presence of capable stars like Cooper and Jackson suggest that Reasonable Doubt might turn out decently. The trailer certainly plays up the cat-and-mouse angle, as well...

Seyfried Quotables: I Saw Porn At Age 6
Amanda Seyfried
Quote-machine Amanda Seyfried gave yet another shocking sound bite to GQ magazine's latest issue in lead-up to the release of her biopic Lovelace, opening Friday, Aug. 9, where she portrays the Deep Throat actress Linda Lovelace.

(Warning: Her latest quote gets a little graphic.)

"It was the first time I'd ever seen a penis, and I remember it being very graphic, and I remember when he came: it was so terrifying," the 27-year-old actress recalled to the men's magazine of viewing her first pornography as a young girl. "It was 1990 or 1991, and so AIDS was really rampant. Watching any kind of sexual acts when you're a six-year-old would make you think you were going to contract AIDS somehow."

Trailer - Amanda Seyfried is Linda Lovelace

This quote further illustrates why Amanda Seyfried -- like The Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence -- is one of Hollywood's most refreshing celebrities. In a world of canned answers and overly-cautious comments, Seyfried...

Pierce Brosnan To Front Craig Ferguson-Scripted Revenge Thriller Last Man Out
Since his time as James Bond came to an end in 2002 with Die Another Day, Pierce Brosnan has mostly moved away from action movies, instead favoring comedies like Laws of Attraction, Married Life, and Mamma Mia. But reports out of the European Film Market reveal this Irish leading man is looking to return to the world of action with the revenge thriller Last Man Out. THR reports Brosnan is set to star as a former Irish Republican Army hitman who has had to serve 20 years in jail for murder. Upon his release, he is plagued by guilt. So, he chooses to seek revenge on his victims' behalf in order to find inner peace. The film is inspired by Northern Irish author Stuart Neville's critically praised novel The Twelve, which has been published in the U.K., Japan, France, Spain, and the U.S., where it's known as The Ghosts of...

That Will Smith-Produced, Aline Brosh McKenna-Penned ‘Annie’ Remake Gets Still Weirder
At this point, Sony Pictures’ remake of the musical classic Annie is turning into the latest Mad Libs production to come out of Hollywood, with studio executives just randomly yelling out names of people who should be working on getting the long-in-development feature off the ground. The project certainly made sense at first as, back in January of 2011, it was announced that Will Smith would be producing the project as a potential vehicle for his daughter, Willow Smith (thank the success of The Karate Kid for that). A few weeks after that, we got wind that Jay-z would also be producing alongside Smith, which continued sound like a solid way to make a fresh, new Annie, and then Emma Thompson came on board to write the script and any concept we might have had of the new film went right out the window. Thompson’s screenwriting work in the kiddie realm primarily consists of the Nanny McPhee films...

Kevin Lehane interview: Grabbers, Twitter, and filming in the rain
Interview Sarah Dobbs Jan 15, 2013

With the Irish sci-fi comedy Grabbers out on DVD and Blu-ray now, Sarah caught up with writer Kevin Lehane to chat about its making...

Seen Grabbers yet? The Irish monster movie captured our hearts last year, and we’ve been singing its praises ever since. Now that it’s out on DVD (and Blu-ray), we decided it was time we stopped tweeting at writer Kevin Lehane and actually picked up the phone to talk to him about the film.

If you haven’t seen the film yet, there might be some mild spoilers contained in this interview, so if you’re intending to see it, you may want to bookmark this and come back later. If you have seen it, or if you're just cavalier about spoilers, though, read on. It’s pretty fascinating to hear about how things changed between Kevin’s original script and the finished movie,...

Laws of Attraction - Matrimonio in appello (2004)
Kristen Wiig and Fabrizio Moretti Kiss at Star-Studded Lexus Party
Laws of Attraction - Matrimonio in appello (2004)
Lexus hosted their Laws of Attraction bash in San Francisco last night for plenty of loved-up celebrity couples. The event's DJ, Fabrizio Moretti, brought along his girlfriend, Kristen Wiig. The couple, who usually are shy about press attention, didn't seem to mind kissing for the cameras. Jason Schwartzman also partied with his wife, Brady Cunningham. Brady and Jason enjoyed an adults-only night, leaving their 18-month-old daughter Marlowe at home. Jaime King, meanwhile, made the rounds with husband Kyle Newman. Model Devon Aoki also showed Pda with her partner, James Bailey. Simon Doonan and his husband, Jonathan Adler, were the brains behind Lexus's new campaign, which was unveiled last night. Photographer Ellen von Unwerth snapped photos of the famous pairs - kissing in front of Lexus cars - for a new range of advertisements. Simon and Jonathan, Kyle and Jaime, James and Devon, and Jason and Brady are all in the...

‘Devil Wears Prada’ Scribe Set to Take Her Cinderella Story Chops to ‘Annie’ Remake
Screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna‘s resume is bizarre. Start at the bottom – Three to Tango, Laws of Attraction, some TV movie, The Devil Wears Prada, 27 Dresses, Morning Glory – you see the pattern, right? But after penning generally mainstream romantic comedies since 1999, McKenna veered wildly off course in 2011. Her credits for that year? I Don’t Know How She Does It (horrible, offensive tripe) and We Bought a Zoo (charming, inoffensive family stuff directed by no less than Cameron Crowe). Now McKenna is reportedly set to go even further away from her bread and butter, as the scribe is apparently set to rewrite the script for the Will Smith and Jay-z-produced remake of Annie. Perhaps even McKenna bristled at last year’s New York Times profile that sold her as the go-to writer of “Cinderella stories for the Blackberry set of professional women.” (Oof.) McKenna will reportedly “draw on both the hit Broadway musical and the comic...

'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' Star David Kelly Dies at Age 82
Over the weekend it appears news of the highly publicized death of Whitney Houston overshadowed the passing of another great talent. Variety has word that Irish actor David Kelly, likely best known for playing Grandpa Joe in Tim Burton's adaptation of Roald Dahl's classic book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, has passed away. After working on stage, screen (both big and small) and even radio, the actor passed away on Sunday, February 12th at 82-years old. At the time of his passing, a cause of death was not announced, but after 82-years alive on this planet, a reason to leave it isn't really necessary. More below. In addition to playing Charlie Bucket's grandfather, Kelly also famously rode a motorcycle nude in the 1998 comedy Waking Ned Devine. The actor also took small roles in The Laws of Attraction and the original The Italian Job with his last turn coming...

Video of the Day: A Montage of Cinema’s Worst Writing Cliches
Cliché: a phrase, expression, or idea that has been overused to the point of losing its intended force or novelty, especially when at some time it was considered distinctively forceful or novel.

With Hollywood producing so many movies ever year, it is no surprise that they are often full of clichés. Jeff Smith created this montage under the Bottoms Up Productions label for acclaimed movie blog FilmDrunk.com, showing clips of some of the biggest movie clichés from a total of 102 films. The list of films are below the video. Enjoy!

Julianne Moore sure does Love to Cry in her Films!
It's time to have a good cry with Julianne Moore. Good grief, she cry's so much in her films that when you see it all edited together like this it's freakin' hilarious! The video called, Julianne Moore Loves to Cry, comes from pajiba's video editor Harry Hanrahan, and here's a note from the site:

It’s a telling video; if you ever want to minimize the talent of an actor, try isolating similar moments from different movies and reducing them to one three-minute video. The video is initially somber, but as you see the same face repeat itself through the video, it grows increasingly absurd.

I couldn't help but laugh through most of the video, enjoy!

French films glow with confidence and culture. Ours should do the same
The abolition of the Film Council has provoked another round of laments for UK cinema. But across the Channel there is a golden age for serious movies – and a cohesive industry with lessons for Britain's Hollywood-obsessed producers

When I walked out of the cinema the other evening after watching a very great actress at the top of her form – Kristin Scott Thomas in Leaving (Partir) – I realised that subtitles were now the norm for me. Of the 10 films I have paid to see over the last year, eight were French.

I'm aware of big releases like Inception and the accompanying ballyhoo over Tom Cruise's latest empty sensation, but it's a while since I have bought a ticket to see an American film. I'm hooked on the French, in awe of their style and the effortless class of their filmmaking.

Cinema is one of the ways a nation entertains itself,...

Disney Spends Lots of Money for a Live-Action Cinderella Pitch
Disney, the new king of Hollywood, is looking for more big projects to follow Enchanted, Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, and the upcoming Sorcerer's Apprentice, so how about a live-action Cinderella? Deadline reports that Disney has paid upwards of 7-figures for pitch for Cinderella (the not-so-original title for this), a live-action re-imagining of that classic fairy tale that we're all very familiar with (at least I hope everyone is). The script is being written by Aline Brosh McKenna, of Laws of Attraction, The Devil Wears Prada, 27 Dresses, and the upcoming Morning Glory. Beyond that, there's not much more we know about this yet. Despite all of this news, Deadline doesn't seem to know if it will be in 3D or not (come on, it's 99% certain it will be in 3D) and whether "there'll be deviations from the original Cinderella story," but again I'm guessing there probably will. I'd love...

Trustee: Bergstein withheld some info
In his first report, the forensic accountant assigned by a federal bankruptcy court judge to examine five companies managed by David Bergstein said "certain tax returns have not been filed," as creditors in the involuntary bankruptcy action allege. But Bergstein said that does not reflect what is really going on.

Interim trustee Ronald Durkin, a Cpa and former FBI agent, said that Bergstein has been cooperating but has frustrated efforts to get all of the records, files and documents Durkin needs. The trustee wrote that, in particular, he has not been able to get clarification or copies of any tax documents that might have been filed, though Bergstein has told him some were filed.

"Three weeks into this case," the report says, "Mr. Bergstein has not produced a single income tax return for any of the (companies in the involuntary bankruptcy), and it is uncertain whether (those companies) ever filed any income tax returns.
