This is also known as Red Zone. The location is Carson City, Nevada. This movie starts with Sean 'Mac' Macintyre (Freddy Rodríguez) in jail as he recounts his story. He is an arrogant senior high school student. He and his boys get into sports gambling. Soon, they get over their heads as others get involved.
I don't know much about writer/director Lee Madsen. This is the only work of his that I've seen. It is weak directing. The subject matter is interesting. Normally, I love Freddy Rodriguez although this character is rather annoying. He's also way too old to be a high school student. In its favor, I do like a less-visited location like Carson City. It's nothing special, but that's the point.

Pledge of Allegiance was great. It takes a unique look at the pressures that surround young athletes caught up in sports betting. The movies characters engage in a rite of passage teaching them lessons about friendship and loyalty and the difference between fantasy and reality. These lessons are not easily learned as the characters must overcome greed and betrayal in order to prevail.
The movie was filmed in Carson City, Nevada and directed by Lee Madsen who grew up in Carson and understands Nevada's allure. This understanding helped Lee with the movie's authenticity, adding humor and historical references unique to Nevada. I recommend this movie...enjoy!

I feel the artwork for this DVD does not give this film justice. Don't get me wrong, the artwork for the DVD is cool but if you look at the other versions of the posters and art work for when the film was called Pledge of Allegiance gives you a MUCH better idea of what you are in for. That said I think the film is GREAT. Cast if great, loctions are great, the look of the film is great and refreshing in a way. I really hope people check this film out. They'll love it!
I think it is really great to see a little film like this made in an environment of cheap straight to video and mega productions. All too often great stories and film-making get lost in the crowd. So often films like this get lost because they don;t have enough press or flashy special effects. When what really matters is a great story and film-making. I hope to see more from these guys!
