Bollywood's Raging Bull

I have seen many Mithun's movie this one is totally different from other movies of that time. I like director Raj N Sippy, in the past he has given memorable movies like Baazi,Satte Pe Satta etc.Danny also has done a great job in this movie he has portrayed the role of Mithun's father (they are almost of same age) , but Danny did it with fine maturity and courage. The story revolves around the Boxer who has to win his last fight to get back his dignity which his Father lost once in the same arena.

The story is very emotional and certainly enjoyable. I would give it as 8 out of 10.

One of the best boxing movies made in Bollywood!!

Boxer review :

Another desi adaptation of Stallone's Rocky after Dharmendra's Main Intequam Loonga (1982), Boxer was a slickly executed sports drama with top notch performances from Mithun Chakraborty and Danny. Sharad Saxena, playing the main antagonist Raghu, was super impressive but unfortunately, the film couldn't do much for his career.

Directed by Raj (Daddu) Sippy, the film features a retired boxer (Danny) who turns alcoholic nurturing an angst to win the game!! Circumstances drive his son (Mithun da) to the ring where he is pitted against the present champion Raghu (Saxena). The boxing sequences remain the film's highlight with the climax turning in to a cliffhanger!!

R. D. Burman churned two melodious numbers - 'Tere dil mein bhi kuch kuch kya hota hai' and the wedding song 'Shadmaani O Shaadmaani' which had Danny shaking a leg..

Undoubtedly, Boxer is one of the best Bollywood movie made on the sport but sadly, turned out to be a box office failure when released in early 1984. It was Mithun da's home production and he lost a lot of money on it.

Later, the film found its due and was referenced in Vikram Bhatt's Ghulam (1998) where Sharad Saxena played a boxer again. His photo from Boxer is prominently featured in that movie. Anil Sharma's hit film Apne (2007) liberally borrows its central theme from Boxer where a son wins the champions trophy for his father.

Of all the films on boxing, Boxer is Bollywood's best contribution so far. Its my personal favorite!!

Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni.

One Of The 80's Best Hindi Film.

Boxer is Undoubtedly One Of The Finest Acting Performance Of Mithun Chakravarthy And Danny As Well.

It Narrates The Story And Struggle Of A Thief Turned Boxer As He Makes His Way Through Petty Crimes , Jail , Business And Finally To The Boxing Ring.

This is Unlike Stallone's Rocky (1981) As The Motivation And Reasons For Boxing Are Completely Different And In Terms Of Story I Find It Even Better Than Rocky.

Danny Steals The Show As A Defeated And Lost Boxer Who Has Given Himself Upto Alcohol And Destiny.

This is One Of The Best Films Of The 1980's Hindi Cinema.

Well made Bollywood boxing film

Shanker is jailed for theft and there meets with Tony, who introduces him to professional boxing, after witnessing him fight an inmate. When he gets out of jail, Shanker takes up professional boxing.

There aren't many Bollywood boxing films, but this Mithun starrer is one of the few, and it's well-made, gripping with some solid acting by Danny Dengzongpa as a bitter former boxer and of course Mithun who plays his son- an underrated Tanuja does well too as his long suffering mother ( she has to endure Danny's bitterness).

The boxing scenes are quite brutal and energetic however they do lack technic and they are just pommeling each other. But it's the slightly offbeat story and performances that drives you to watch on.
