100 Days

This is the only movie that talks or tells of a story about the Genocide in Rwanda. It is the only one that through beautifull cinematography tries to make sense and not really dehumanize the Rwandan people and this tragedy. I saw this movie back in Montreal at the Film Festivals and I am planning to see it again at the African Diaspora Film Festival in New York, December 2nd. It also just had a good feature on BBCWorldNews and actually, it seems to be making a buzz for itself.

Definetely recomend it for those with a sense of HUMANITY,RESPONSIBILITY and of course GOOD FILMMAKING!

It was the first ever movie to be made about Rwanda genocide, and I was privileged to be part of it as an actor. It was done in one of crucial genocide provinces of Kibuye ( at the time), where we remember the struggles of Basesero, and so on. It was hard for me to play the role I had, and even to watch other actors playing roles as perpetrators or victims, but it was at the same time the healing road of my trauma after the genocide and its consequences on myself. It was a tribute to my beloved ones, relatives, close friends, best neighbors and childhood friends who have been slaughtered in 100 days of genocide in Rwanda. Good start, Good stuff. Hats up to Eric Kabera and Nick Hughes.

It deals with the time of the genocide in 1994. The film is strong. Of course the whole story is not told, but it seems a good start in trying to relate the events. I feel that I need to learn more, and I'd like to read comments from more knowledgeable people. I wonder if they would agree with my one line summary?

The film makes clear the crucial role of the UN. How can one stupid superpower be allowed to cause such a blunder?

This was the first of the six dramatic feature films that I know of concerning the Rwandan genocide, and judging from the number of votes registered for it on IMDb this film is relatively unknown. Being that it seemed to be largely a personal project by one person, this film really surprised me. The cinematography, the editing, the acting, and the storyline were remarkable. Or perhaps that one individual had such a hand in it is why it turned out so well. I consider Hotal Rwanda an exceptionally good film, but the characterizations had a good-person-bad-person feel to them. In 100 days the characters seemed more real with flaws in most everyone, and perhaps that is why the film is less known. There is plenty in this film to upset certain people, especially when they feel that their own people or organization is targeted, but it is the sum total of shortcomings in society and individuals through which such things happen.
