A decent film, but not really worthy of the Madame Bovary name. Good in that, as the only decent French production, it has a handle on the original work, but still very weak in plot selection and handling of the characters in adapting to the screen.

Highly recommend selecting another more recent release, either from the UK or United States.

Characters such as Emma and Charles come off as very one-dimensional, and the acting for Rodolphe Boulanger de la Huchette is absolutely over-the-top bad (to the point of being utterly hilarious.) The entire film will remind you of classic "can't believe it's not butter" commercials with Fabio.
