Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin

Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin, as the name goes, is a stark, realistic look at life in urban Bombay. Life whizzes past you, fast and before you know it you are in the middle of murder, mayhem, violence and attempted suicide. The pace of the movie is slick, the tale told refreshingly. The team of actors and actresses make a sincere attempt at portraying the sleaze, muck and grime that even the layman might get involved in by just being a part of the real Bombay. The Bombay of locals, of the underworld, of slums, of overpopulation, of crime and of survival amidst all this that constantly bogs you down. Good triumphs over evil, even in this dark city of terror, finally.

I admire Sudhir Mishra. He is a huge talent and there is no denying that… he also needs to be thanked for inspiring a generation of filmmakers like Anurag Kashyap who clearly benefited from his mentorship during AK's earlier films like Black Friday!

But where I find Mr. Mishra falling short of true glory is due to his execution. His stories are usually intriguing but fail to cause an impact due to a general tepid visual style. I felt that with Hazaron Khwahishen Aisi and even more with this one. After watching IRKSN last night again (I had watched it originally when it first came out), I believe it may have to do with funding of his films (or lack thereof).

The story itself is not novel in this day and age when every other film today that calls itself "offbeat" appear to have characters with "shades of gray" in them. The overall pace of the film is good and does justice to the story … but the production values and the economy of the shots are where the film falls short. In some scenes you almost can't help but wonder if the scene could have been a lot better with a retake or placing the camera a little differently! It can't be the actors since you have some of the finest talent here - Ashish Vidyarthi, Saurabh Shukla and the late Nirmal Pandey! Some scenes that are supposed to convey a sense of wealth and high society seem tacky that you would think you are watching a B-grade flick!

I would watch this for the ensemble cast and acting (if you can ignore the tacky wigs and costumes that they don!).

This was one of the finest gangster movies made in Bollywood. Acting of Late. Nirmal Pandey, Ashish Vidyarthi is fantastic and other supporting caste are also very good. Story telling, direction, music everything is good and lyrics of songs by Nida Fazil are so good.

A very under rated move.

THis has excellent direction and screenplay. All movie story happens in just one night. This is also the debut movie of the versatile actor Ashish Vidyarthi.

This is very similar to Slumdog Millionare but made over 20 years before slumdog. As i saw both movies, i was thinking of the huge praise on slumdog, i thought a very similar and better directed movie was made 20 years ago. Not many are aware of this movie but worth watching once. It does not have songs but has excellent screenplay, background music and a gripping narrative.

There are many hit films on backdrop of Bombay like Salaam Bombay, This one "Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin", Satya, Sarkar etc. This too is one of them.

Sudhir Mishra at his best. What mood, cast & songs. Loved every bit
