Nice pageant this year, and most of the contestants were not bad looking--except for maybe Miss USA--which was a disappointment. China sent its first contestant ever to the Miss Universe Pageant also. Like I said in my summary, Miss Russia won the pageant and she was a good looking woman!! Phil Simms did an adequate job as host, except when he stepped on Miss Russia's evening gown as she was walking away after answering a question from him!! One part that I did not like was near the end, when they usually show the audience at home, one final look at the final five contestants, and the cameras decided to go backstage to listen to gossipy chit-chat with Brooke Lee (Miss Universe 1997) and the reigning Miss Universe, Denise Quinones. The cameras ruined a good shot of the finalists for some idle talk backstage!!
