After helping craft the characters and world of the Pedro Pascal-led Star Wars series, Favreau is headed back to streaming with the upcoming Oswald the Lucky Rabbit show. Steve Martin celebrated his landmark 80th birthday on Thursday, and he marked the occasion by spending the day shooting a scene at Disneyland. Speaking on Saturday at the Television Academy’s Televerse festival, Martin shared why filming at that location, on that day, meant so much to him.

“I shot a little one-day scene at Disneyland on my birthday, August 14, two days ago, and it was in the magic shop where I worked when I was 15,” he told the audience gathered for an “Only Murders in the Building” Emmy FYC event at Televerse. “I’m standing on the exact same spot that I stood on when I was 15! And I said, ‘it’s like going to work when you’re 15, and then coming home from work and you’re 80.”

Fans got a first look at the titular character for an upcoming Disney+ series, and the character in question will likely be the House of Mouse's next Grogu. Grogu instantly became a fan-favorite when he debuted in the premiere episode of The Mandalorian. Kathryn Hahn locked in her Disney+ return, with a new series coming from MCU veteran Jon Favreau. Hahn made her Disney+ debut in 2021's WandaVision, playing the villainous Agatha Harkness opposite Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch. Jon Favreau’s upcoming Disney+ series centered on Oswald the Lucky Rabbit has added Amy Sedaris to its cast, Variety has learned.

Sedaris is the latest addition to the show, joining young leads Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Mykal-Michelle Harris, and Ryder Allen. Exact plot details are being kept under wraps, aside from the fact that show will be an animation/live-action hybrid centered on Oswald. According to sources, Sedaris will play the mother of Allen’s character, Taylor.

The role marks the latest collaboration between Sedaris and Favreau. Sedaris previously appeared in the film “Chef,” which Favreau wrote and directed in addition to playing the lead role. Sedaris then voiced a Guinea Fowl in Favreau’s 2019 remake of “The Lion King.” In television, Sedaris has played the character Peli Motto in Favreau’s Disney+ “Star Wars” shows “The Mandalorian” and “The Book of Boba Fett.”

The Batman spinoff series The Penguin is arguably one of the most anticipated projects of 2024. However, showrunner Lauren LeFranc says the series will be more than just a continuation of Matt Reeves' story.

Speaking to Total Film, LeFranc explained how the show gave her a chance to include more complex female characters in the crime genre. "Very few women have been able to write these kinds of movies or television shows," showrunner said. "I think my perspective on Oz, and masculinity in general, is different. And that made me also want to surround him with really interesting, complicated women. In traditional crime dramas, rarely are the women as interesting as the men. So I took this as an opportunity to see what had been done before me, to respect and honor the genre, and then to also evolve it."

The Batman Saga will continue to expand following the release of The Penguin. Dylan Clark, who is an executive producer on The Penguin, recently shared that another spinoff of The Batman is in the works.

"Theres another television exploration were going to do," Clark told Entertainment Weekly during an interview to promote The Penguin. "Were looking at this entire world as it relates to who Batman is the antagonists around them, all the crime that has to be navigated in the city and trying to figure out where are the areas that are best to explore."

The shorts will range from beloved titles to lesser-known fare and will feature some of Disney’s most revered characters. Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto, Chip n’ Dale, and others will appear in the shorts, as well as Disney’s first-ever animated star who preceded Mickey Mouse himself: Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.

“We are thrilled to be working with [director] Kevin Schaeffer and the Studio’s restoration team in presenting these beautifully restored versions of classic Disney animated shorts,” said Dorothy McKim, who helped in restoring these cartoons.

Lander died on Dec. 4, at age 73, after living for nearly four decades with multiple sclerosis. He and McKean actually met back in 1965, during acting classes at Carnegie Mellon University, where they first developed what would become their Lenny and Squiggy (fka “Ant’ny”) personae.

David Lander, the comic actor best known for playing “Squiggy” on Laverne & Shirley, has died at the age of 73 following a decades-long battle with multiple sclerosis.

The actor’s family confirmed to Variety that Lander died Friday evening at Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center with his wife Kathy by his side.

David Lander, the actor best known as “Squiggy” on the long-running Laverne & Shirley television show, has died. He was 73 and passed Friday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles from complications related to multiple sclerosis, which he battled for 37 years.

Lander studied acting at the High School for the Performing Arts, Carnegie Tech and New York University.

Teamed with Michael McKean, aka “Lenny” on Laverne & Shirley, Lander created a memorable comic turn on the eight-year run of the series, which ended in 1983. The two had met at Carnegie in Pittsburgh and created the characters there.

The two also appeared in Steven Spielberg’s film 1941 and Kurt Russell’s Used Cars.

They also voiced an animated TV series, Oswald, which ran for two years, playing penguin cousins Henry and Louie.Lander’s survivors in include his wife, Kathy, their daughter, Natalie and her husband.

Actor David Lander, best known as Squiggy in “Laverne & Shirley,” died Friday evening at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, Variety has confirmed. He was 73.

Lander died of multiple sclerosis, which he battled for 37 years. Since he went public with his diagnosis in 1999, Lander spoke to his experience at related conventions.

The actor was best known for portraying the titular role in “Squiggy” from 1976 to 1983, which he starred with opposite Michael McKean who starred as Lenny. The characters were developed by the longtime friends and collaborators while they were students at Carnegie Mellon University. In 2002, Lander reprised his iconic role as Squiggy in an episode of “The Simpsons.”

Lander had his eyes on acting at a young age and progressed to an arts high school. After teaming up with McKean in college, the duo moved to Los Angeles, where they joined the comedy ensemble, The Credibility Gap.

Actor Mel Winkler, known for his work across film, TV, theater and voice acting, died in his sleep on Thursday of unknown causes. He was 78.

Most notably, Winkler played Joppy, the best friend of Denzel Washington’s character Easy Rawlins in the 1995 thriller “Devil in a Blue Dress.” He also held minor roles in films such as “Doc Hollywood” in 1991 and 2005’s “Coach Carter.”

Winkler was born in St. Louis, Mo., on Oct. 23, 1941, and served as a captain in the U.S. Army prior to becoming an actor. Winkler began his career in 1969 on the TV show “The Doctors,” appearing in a total of 68 episodes. He also had guest roles on series like “American Playhouse,” “As the World Turns,” “The Cosby Show,” “Star Trek: Voyager,” “ER” and “NYPD Blue.”
