"Galaxian", it's hard to imagine, was released in 1979. Game has become a real icon among arcade games, having had a significant impact on the development of the space shooter genre. At first glance, the concept may seem simple: the player controls a spaceship, repelling the attacks of alien invaders. However, it is precisely in this simplicity that the genius of the game lies, which requires more dexterity and tactical thinking with each level.
One of the main advantages of "Galaxian", I would single out its innovative gameplay for its time. Unlike static enemies in other games of those years, here the opponents actively attack the ship, line up in formations and make sharp attacks in dangerous groups, which adds unpredictability and drive. You need to be extremely careful and monitor their movements, trying to simultaneously avoid collisions and destroy as many alien ships as possible. This creates that special dynamic that is so attractive.
The graphics for the late 70s also became revolutionary. Bright, pulsating colors and smooth animations of enemy movement made every battle spectacular. Despite the technical limitations, Galaxian was able to offer not only addictive gameplay, but also a visual style that will be remembered for many years. I happened to play the version for "Dendy", and the saturated colors of the pictures are still remembered with some warmth.
One of the most important aspects of the game is its increasing difficulty. At the first levels, everything seems relatively simple, but with each new wave, the enemies become more aggressive and smarter. It's like a swarm of bees sometimes, from which you don't know how to dodge, you're still limited by the screen, unlike enemies. Gradually, the game turns into a real test of reaction and patience. The uniqueness of the game lies in the fact that it gradually immerses the player in a tense and exciting space battle, where victory depends on precise movements and the right strategy.
"Galaxian" is a prime example of how a simple idea can be executed with outstanding attention to detail, which makes it exciting to this day.
