22-year-old Josefine move from Stockholm to Malmö in search of a better life. In an art class in Copenhagen she meets Elvis, an exuberant Dane. What begins as an innocent one-night stand grows into something bigger.

We meet Josefine, 22 years old, the first time at the hospital where she is treated after having cut her wrist in an attempted suicide. She has been in an abusive relationship for a long time. After a forced abortion against her will it has reached a boiling point and she explains to her mother that she just couldn't take it anymore. Josefine's mother tries to give her support and guide her through her recovery, but after two divorces she is not the best guiding light when it comes to relations. But she invites Josefine to stay with her after discharge so they can spend more time together. Josefine tries to find new friends. She is a budding artist and takes an evening art class at a local university. There she meets Elvis, a young jazz musician. They start dating but Josefine still struggles with her inner demons and can't forget her abusive boyfriend whom she still has feelings for. This leads to conflicts with Elvis who overhears her mentioning the boyfriend's name in her sleep. Their relationship starts degrading and they have multiple breakups and reconciliations. Everything comes to a head following a chance meeting with the former boyfriend at an art gallery. He wants her back but she is confused and resists. At one point he kisses her and she tells him she didn't enjoy it because "he made her feel horny". Josefine tries to merge her two conflicting worlds by having Elvis meet her former boyfriend, but it leads to nothing when Elvis stands up and walks out of the bar where they had met. In the meantime Josefine's mother has started to look for a new phase in her life by joining an online dating service. She meets a local man and they go to a movie theatre. She is very nervous and admits it has been a long time since she had been on a date the last time. But they hit it off and hold hands during the movie. Afterwards she invites him home to the apartment she shares with Josefine. It is late and Josefine is asleep so they go straight to the bedroom. After undressing her date realizes he forgot to bring a condom. He hadn't anticipated the ending of the evening and feels totally humiliated. She smiles and promises to help him. She wakes up Josefine and asks her if she has one. Josefine smiles and teases her that "Mother Horny" can have two. It is not long before the new boyfriend proposes and Josefine's mother answers yes. The wedding is to take place on a local beach, but on the day of the wedding the bride gets cold feet. The groom sends Josefine to talk to her. During the conversation both mother and daughter realizes a new truth. To find happiness you sometimes have to be willing to take a risk. They walk down to the wedding party and the bride says "I do". During the ceremony Josefine and Elvis are smiling and holding hands. T. Ulf Westblom
