kuruthipunal will remain a hallmark movie in indian cinema, based on a movie by govind nihalani ("drohkaal") - kamal & p.c sreeram have taken indian cinema to new heights with this movie.

the tight screenplay, the excellent performances, the biting dialogues, the beautiful cinematography all add up to make this one of the best movies ever from india.

the movie did surprisingly well for a movie without songs and was well appreciated in urban circles. the non commercial approach actually added to the offbeat theme of the movie.

this in my opinion is probably kamal's best performance.

This is one among "the best" of Kamal.The screenplay is really a wonder.The character of Viswanath(kamal's boss) in the movie is a prelude to that of kamal's. Some of the dialogue's are evergreen.esp the ones kamal and nasser share in the sea shore. The camera focuses on kamal's Black Ray-Ban and Nasser is all in pain in that reflection.So clear,so true.P.C has done a gr8 job.The lighting for the interrogation scenes are just perfect. For those regular "P.Vasu" kind of cop movies,wherein the cop will have every power on this earth to even ask the chief minister to stop talking,this one was a bolt out of the blue. Also the tollgate scene where the cop shoots one of the terrorist's will happen in tamil cinema ,but not the dialog that follows that.Its where kamal asks the cop whether he is married.The lighting and camera angle is so perfect,as if u feel that P.C had just sat in the floor to capture it on the screen.Whata work? The indoor scenes are very good,with bright lighting,bright contrast dresses for the men n women. A gr8 offbeat by kamal and P.C.Sriram

Inaintha kaigal, Kuruthipunal and Kaka kaka are trend setters.

Kamal, Arjun, Gowthami, Nassar and everyone played their character wisely. Kamal, Arjun and Nassar are apt for the Commando dress. Action sequence are flawless.

I missed this movie on my teen age because of it's A certificate. But after watching lot of Hollywood movies, now it seems, not too much. Think this is the only Songless movie in Tamil cinema.

This is a classic from Kamal Hassan and team. His performance as Adhinarayanan and Nasser's performance of Badhri character are convincing. The story, screen play and cinematography are absolutely enthralling. The dialogues between Kamal and Nassar are the most thought provoking and captivating. A Hollywood style movie strictly sticking to the script. No songs, duets and dance to be expected from this movie. Sepcial mention to the make up of Arjun and Kamal in the terrorist interrogation scenes deserve a special mention. It is a movie that has cult status, with Kuruthipunal Kamal style hair cut, coolers becoming a trend and widely known across the gent's parlours in Tamil Nadu.

My only regret is that I saw this movie only once in theater!

Just 2 words to describe this movie which is "Great movie". Acting vise kamal and arjun both are awesome. Whenever i see this movie, i can feel the rawness. Almost equal to a hollywood movie.

One of the best movies to have come out in Tamil. An intriguing & realistic portrayal of how a honest cop succumbs to the corrupted environment around him. Makes you realize the hardships faced by any honest cop. The action sequences are realistic & we don't find any usual cinematic gimmicks. Excellent story & brilliant screenplay combined with wonderful casting makes the movie standout. The dialogs are just mind-boggling. Kamalhaasan's performance is terrific. Nasser's performance is also excellent. As usual PC.Sreeram's handling of the camera makes us wonder. A must watch movie for anyone, eager to watch really good movies. One of the best portrayals of the story of a honest cop.

If u are thinking what i am talking about this is one of the many excellent dialogues written for this film by kamal haasan who has also written the screenplay for this edge of the seat thriller.Directed by P.C . Sreeram who also handles the camera this is a cat and mouse chase between two honest cops and a rebellion group.Powered by an excellent technical team and amazing performances by the cast this one is a definite must watch.The director sticks on and is loyal to the central theme and offers no space for any distractions in this taut thriller an excellent movie sans songs and other supposedly "necessary" commercial elements it was an instant classic .I would give it a perfect ten.

A non commercial, genuine patriotic movie. Kamal Haasan's and Arjun's acting brought beauty to the story.

Good Movie. Everybody acted very well in the movie. The main good thingin the movie is there are no songs if there are songs that may been unwanted. BGM is good in the movie. The 1st half in the movie lagged much. The 2nd half in the movie was so interesting and thrilling. This movie is one of the Best of Kamal Haasan and Best Movie in Tamil. Good Movie.

This movie was way ahead of its time for Tamil industry ! It has electrifying screen play and excellent dialogues . It was one of the movie which does not have a song , which is rare for an Indian movie .

To start with this movie is a Masterpiece!. And somehow, I have always felt and still feel that this movie was not for the 1990's Indian audience. This is one of the most Raw, dark, brutal action thrillers of Indian Cinema which would have got it's righteous accolades if this movie had been made much later (probably 2020's).

The movie Delays, Disables & Disintegrates into your mind and shows the nasty reality of politics and terrorism that marches on. This movie is not for the weak, but teaches even the strongest, that there is a breaking point for everyone which will eventually break you down. The movie showcases this to perfection.

The story revolves around 2 honest police officers trying to bring down a terrorist organization and whether they succeeded or succumbed to it, when faced with hard reality checks. The direction and acting are top notch and the best part being no songs and no masala!

No movie has surpassed the class of this movie in Tamil cinema history. Sticking to the reality of the situation and depicting a gruesome quarrel between the Government appointed law enforcers and the self appointed law makers.

Each character portrays a part of society that was created intentionally or unintentionally. No other actor could have pulled this off in Tamil Cinema and even though this did not have a huge impact on action movies that came after this, it will forever be a classic in its own rights as it was way ahead of its time.

Kamal and Arjun appointed as head to catch a terrorist team. They send a cop as a spy inside the terrorist group and collecting the information about them. Accidentally Nasser the head was caught by kamal in a railway station.

Terrorists needs to know who is the spy and release Nasser. Kamal, Arjun needs whole terrorists. Apart from the main story many questions are being unanswered. Film doesn't say who are the terrorists what do they want? But, we can understand they are portrayed as Naxals.

Nasser plays with black dress which may refer Dravidism. Because the film title has black and red, which is the color of dravidian party. The People in dravidism always wears black dress but, the no on with dravidian idealogy are terrorists. They don't need to become terrorists because, they are ruling the party of Tamil Nadu.

I never heard a naxal raping a police officer wife and assassinating a central minister so cool, shooting a child, and many. The film ends with kids of terrorists killed by Kamal attacking Kamal's son and saying it is a revenge.

If you are a general audience, the film will be nice. But, if you dissect many questions come from it.

I'm literally speechless after watching this movie: Kuruthipunal. From its story line to dialogues, expression, implied messages and theme. EVERYTHING was nailed to perfection!

It has to be one of Kamal's BEST movies I must say! An intense thriller which spruces a lot of issues. Issues which are common yet not tackled completely even till today.

Each and every character played their role effortlessly and this movie MUST be on the must-watch list for Tamil Movies.

Lastly, hats off to the entire team for producing such a BRILLIANT movie! It's 2017 now, but this movie which was made in 1995 (22 years ago) still managed to keep me at the edge of my seat for 2 hours 22 minutes. Bravo!

This movie is a masterpiece.The screenplay is pacey and excellent by the fact that the entire movie revolves around the sufferings of Police men.You can catch the best of India's finest actor(Kamal Hasan). Equivalent to Kamal's performance, Naser's performance will be breathtaking. He plays the perfect role of a rebel leader. The most important part of the movie is when Kamal pleads his fellow cop who acts as a rebel and ask him to shoot himself in order to keep the secret identity of DHANUSH. Though the end is sad, the way it has been handled is touching.All credit goes for the director of the movie for choosing such a fantastic script. It is a true classy film and a must watch for all classical movie lovers.Watch this movie and enjoy the experience of thrill...
