Alain Payet is a true craftsman in French XXX cinema, and he brings his skills to the medieval fable "Hotdorix". Rather obscure French video should have generated an international following, but shooting on video instead of 35mm (a victim of the time it was made) hurt the results.
That's a shame, since this plays far better than most fantasies set in the distant past. The costumes and behavior resemble a Caveman movie more than anything else and Payet's regular cast of top talent (Silvia Saint, Roberto Malone, Karen Lancaume, Doly Golden) creates some rich, 3-dimensional characters who surmount any language barriers.
The music helps set the mood of a tale set in Roman times. Folks are searching for the statue of Hotdorix, whoever finds it will be blessed with virility.
Along the way, with farceur Malone excellent in the lead role, there is an emphasis on anal sex which was the calling card of Euro Cinema back in the day, until it became commonplace in Chatsworth, too. Female cast comes in all shapes and sizes, so the expected fake beauty and glamour of a Dorcel production is carefully avoided in this Colmax release, even with the undisputed top beauty queen Saint in the lead. Stress on sexual comedy also gives the feature a different flavor compared to the rather boring all-sex Euro Porn of its day.
Definitely worth seeking out as "something different".
