Sunday Afternoon Regional Film!
Friends , its past Sunday Afternoon and as per Door darshan era, time for a regional film watch and discussion. The film which I saw and want to mention here is the NTR mythological hit-Sri Krishnanjaneya Yuddham on YouTube with subtitles. Post the teaser of upcoming RAMAYANA film, many cine goers have got interest in the mytho-historical genre of Indian cinema. Though successful films have been made in this genre in Tamil, Hindi, Kannada yet there is no doubt that peak of this genre films was in Telugu and specifically in the superstardom years of NT Rama Rao.
This film is set in the era of Lord Krishna and as the name suggest it is about the loyalty of Anjaneya (Lord Hanuman) towards Lord Rama and this leads to a clash. The film starts with the end of Treta Yug and passing away of Lord Rama and how Lord hanuman is heartbroken. Years pass by Lord Vishnu takes birth as Lord Krishna in Dwapar Yug, and Chiranjeevi Anjaneya is meditating still waiting for darshan for his beloved Rama. The film connects various characters of Balrama, Vibhishana, nag Kanya, Garud, Satyabhama, Narad, Narkasura, Yamraj and Rukmini and touches various chapters from texts and folk stories. The final is a Yudh (which never actually happens) of sorts as Hanuman ji in anger attacks Dwarka and is calmed down by Rukmini and Lord Krishna.
The story of the film though laced from texts also focusses on many aspects of mythology and folk tales whose source I am not very sure of. Though Lord Krishna meeting Hanumanji is not very clearly mentioned in Mahabharat yet there are other texts including Parasar Samhita which mention the meeting. The portrayal of Hanumanji meeting Lord Krishna has been shown in popular tv serials like Ramanand Sagar's Shree Krishna, Sanjay Khan's Jai Hanuman, Sony TV's Sankat Mochan Mahabali hanuman and others, yet the film touches some other versions to the story.
The film has a great star cast lead by NTR,SV Ranga Rao, Rajanala amongst others and all fit the role to T. The musical score is full of devotional songs and production values are high class with well composed figh sequences. This was my 3rd Telugu NTR starrer as Lord Krishna after the cult Maya Bazaar, the hit Sri Krishnarjuna Yuddhamu and must say NTR's magic as Lord Krishna is unparallel. His smile, look, movements and his voice makes him an immortal screen Lord Krishna. Infact, in this film he also shines in the brief screen time he gets as Lord Rama and Lord Vishnu.
Overall, an entertaining grand film where NTR again shows that why he was the most loved screen God!
