Tabu disclose how Priyadarshan spout coconut oil on her head during Virasat shoot
Tabu at an event for Il destino nel nome - The Namesake (2006)
Tabu’s performance in director Priyadarshan’s action drama Virasat garnered her widespread acclaim and became a significant milestone in her career. In a recent interview, she recounted an amusing and memorable incident from the film’s set involving the director. Tabu played the role of Gehna Thakur, and to achieve a rustic village look, Priyadarshan insisted on her having oily hair. Initially, the hairstylist suggested using a small amount of gel to add shine. However, Priyadarshan had a different approach.

Tabu shared, “Priyan (Priyadarshan) wanted me to have oily hair and a village look. So, the hairstylist told me to take a little gel and apply it to make it look oily. When I went on set, he said, ‘I asked you to put oil.’ I said, ‘Yeah, a little. Nice shine is coming.’ So he let it go and then came back with a bottle of coconut oil...

‘Chura liya hai tumne’: Asha Bhosle & R D Burman’s melodious journey, discordant end
Image
Intrinsically talented, both, separately and jointly, gave a new direction to Hindi film music. But to achieve this, Asha Bhosle and Rahul Dev Burman had to surmount a major “hurdle” – creating a new identity distinct from their illustrious and established kin: elder sibling Lata Mangeshkar and father Sachin Dev Burman.

And both succeeded – with a combination of luck, support, their own undeniable virtuosity, and above all, their first joint effort.

AshaBhosle – who is still going strong at 90, having worked with four generations of music composers from O P Nayyar to A R Rehman – added a sensuous allure and element of forthrightness for the Hindi film heroine, without becoming risque or boisterous, even as Burman adroitly used pop and jazz to good effect in electrifying film music – bringing the age of Elvis Presley and the Beatles to India.

Rejected at a trial for a film in 1947 as the sound recording engineer...

Rangrezz Movie Review
As the director of the 2008 National Award winning Tamil film, Kanchivaram and many other classics, Priyadarshan needs no introduction nor to be questioned if he can sparkle up the screen. But not everyone remembers this and time is what it is. Although not nearly as breathtaking, Rangrezz would probably fall into the same category of films he directed as Aakrosh and Tezz, showing the serious/realistic cinema side of him. A remake from Tamil, it stars Jackky Bhagnani, Priya Anand, Vijay Verma and Amitosh Nagpal in lead roles. The original film, Naadodigal, has been remade into 4 other languages since its release in 2009. But the key here is whether Rangrezz will see the same success.

Now, we have seen our fair share of movies in Hindi cinema that depict love birds and the selfless friends that help them succeed in their love story. Yet, have we ever seen what happens to...

Priyadarshan plans film on AIDS with Aamir Khan
After the warm reception to his just released 'De Dana Dan', Priyadarshan plans to make a film on AIDS with Aamir Khan in a way that's palatable to the public.'And why not? Films are meant to generate a mass reaction. No point in making a film with one of the biggest stars of the country which only a handful of people want to watch,' Priyadarshan told Ians.He wants to make films for the masses. Even if it's about the construction mafia 'Khatta Meetha' with Akshay Kumar and Trisha or the stigma attached to inter-caste marriages in a film with Ajay Devgn, Bipasha Basu and Akshaye Khanna, he will speak in the language of the common man.'De Dana Dan' is a big hit even in Pakistan where it's running to packed houses in a theatre with shows from 9 a.m. to 2 a.
