Honestly this film is like perfect. I couldn't really find anything wrong with this movie besides the video quality being really bad. This is a film that needs a remaster. Ignoring that everything is perfect like I said. The performances are definitely the best part. Mohanlal goes deep into his role of an eccentric romantic with each mannerisms being perfect. Shari is also great as the second lead. The movie surprisingly is also focused on her struggles and she does a good job of conveying them. Thilakan makes us just want to take an ax and chop him to death. That how much I loved to hate him. The supporting performances especially from vineeth and kaviyoor ponamma are great as well. I loved that Solomon's and Antony's friendship was also a huge part of the movie besides the main romance. Padmarajans writing is also effortless with a great ending that was very progressive for its time while other movies used to botch this subject. A masterpiece in short and deserves to be seen even today.

i guess the music by Johnson is everlasting too. the theme music of the movie which comes right at the beginning is haunting. it will remain etched in everyones memories. but due credit must be give to Thilakan and Mohan Lal . the movie wouldn have been complete without their performances. one still wonders how Thilakan has not received international accolades or even a national award being the kind of perfomer he is. Most if not all of Padmarajans movies dwell on relationships and are very character centric and again most if not all of his movies are classics. his early death was a big loss to Malayalam cinema. his contribution to the golden period of malayalam cinema was immense.

Mohanlal takes acting to a greater level with his riveting performance and débutante Shari is fresh and appealing. This is a film which needs to be preserved and re- released because the true value of it is yet to be realised.THe script is very detailed and brings out the intrinsic lifestyle of the kerala catholic syrian Christian. The screenplay is the king just like all of director Padmarajan's other concepts and this is the best of his work closely followed by Thoovanathumbikal. The dialogues are crisp and powerful with a local touch. The music is still popular and the songs are very meaningful. The entire screenplay is worked around Solomon's songs from the bible and it keeps referring to the vineyards of solomon. The film is based on K Sudhakaran's novel and is the a great adaptation to the English translation which mean vineyard for us to dwell. What amazes me is after reading the novel by K Sudhakaran I understood that the screenplay of this film is based on the events that are not mentioned in the book. It traverses a path that exists but is not mentioned in the book. Thats the beauty of padmarajan's work. You need to read the book and see the film to unravel the film in totality.
