Srividya and Soman are happily married with 2 children . Their family friend, Sukumaran is a loner . He moves in very closely with them as he has no family or friends of his own . Srividya is the epitome of duty and affection. She tries to get him married and includes him in all her family functions .Soman goes out of station for a few days . In the mean time Srividya and Sukumaran grow close . She understands his loneliness . One night , when all are asleep , driven by passion , she goes to meet him in the next cottage . Her daughter ( a cute Rani Padmini ) sees this and assumes the worst. Her attitude towards her mother changes over night . Srividya, knowing this tries to mend fences with her but the daughter refuses to relent and threatens to spill all to her father .

Helpless , she runs to Sukumaran asking what to do now . He tries to talk to her but in a fit of frenzy ends up molesting her . Ashamed and guilty of what he has done , he quitely leaves town . Srividya comes to know this much later when she over hears her daughter tell this to her brother . The husband returns and is innocent of what has happened behind his back . Guilty and frustrated Srividya takes her own life . Rani is sent to a remand home . All this chaos only because the daughter misunderstands her own mother's intentions and actions . The movie looks at various layers and emotions of a person . We are driven by circumstances which are stronger than us . A fine movie shot in lush locales . Srividya looks ethereal as always in simple sarees and curly long hair . Rani is cute wearing tennis minis most of the time . Soman is fine as the dutiful husband and indulging father . Sukumaran shows a gambut of emotions all conflicting to each other . A fine movie .
