This American Mutoscope & Biograph Actuality was offered by the company as actual war footage following the Battle of Las Guaymas. I consider it unlikely in the extreme, given that the Army might have preferred to evacuate the wounded quickly rather than have them stand around while the AM&B cameraman set up the composition and the bulky camera. It would have converted several of the soldiers from "wounded" to "dead." AM&B had already sold several war movies that were performed far from the battlefield and there is no reason to believe this was not shot in New Jersey. Technically the composition is good for the era, but the lack of actual movement renders it dull and uninteresting.

Wounded Soldiers Embarking in Row Boats (1898)

The USS Maine was attacked and many people were killed and wounded. This film clocks in at just under a minute and we see row boats taking some of the wounded to the shore. There's obviously nothing ground- breaking about this film, cinema wise, but at the same time it's fascinating getting to see these events 118 years after they were recorded. History buffs will obviously love getting to see this footage and there are several other films that were made about this event including some that covered the funerals of those died in the attack.
