Descrizione

  • Eddie Madden, a once-affable delivery driver, is a man spiraling into darkness. After a devastating car accident claims the lives of his beloved wife and daughter, Eddie finds himself drowning in grief, barely able to function. Haunted by his loss and plagued by anger, Eddie begins slipping at work. When he's late again, his boss, Steve Boyd, tries to be understanding-giving Eddie space to process his trauma-but complaints about Eddie's erratic behavior are piling up.

While driving to work one morning, Eddie is cut off by Ellen Carson, a real estate agent, causing him to miss his freeway exit. In a burst of road rage, Eddie tailgates her, swerving erratically, before speeding off. Unnerved, Ellen memorizes the "How's My Driving?" bumper sticker on his delivery truck and calls the 1-800 number to report the incident.

This marks the final straw for Steve. Despite previous attempts to curb Eddie's behavior through counseling and warnings, his anger has made him a liability. With a heavy heart, Steve fires Eddie. When Eddie returns to collect his final paycheck, he asks Tess from HR for a copy of the incident report-and sees Ellen's name and address. The discovery ignites a fixation.

That night, Eddie drives to Ellen's neighborhood and silently watches her house. He calls her from outside but doesn't say a word before hanging up. The next day, he stalks her again, following her aggressively, flashing his headlights. When Ellen pulls into a fire station and lays on the horn, Eddie speeds away.

Later, Ellen discusses the back-to-back harassment incidents with her husband, Jim, a construction manager. She wonders if it could be the same driver she reported. Jim dismisses the idea, pointing out that the identities of complainants are confidential and not shared with the employees.

Undeterred, Eddie escalates. He overhears Ellen's best friend and colleague, Nina Harding, asking to attend a work function with her. Ellen declines, having plans to give her teenage stepdaughter, Cynthia, driving lessons that evening. At the event, Eddie deliberately spills Nina's drink to strike up a conversation, charming her into a one-night stand. At Nina's apartment, while she sleeps, he snoops through her belongings and memorizes her calendar-learning Cynthia has a swim meet later in the week.

In a calculated move, Eddie impersonates an OSHA inspector to meet Jim at a construction site and a potential homebuyer to schedule a viewing with Ellen-effectively keeping both parents away from the swim meet. He then shows up posing as a University of California swim recruiter and speaks with Cynthia, gaining her trust.

Shortly after, Eddie tailgates Ellen again, this time rear-ending her and forcing her car into a construction zone where it hits tire spikes. She catches his license plate before he flees. Police question Eddie, but he flips the narrative, falsely claiming that Ellen is an unstable ex-lover bent on exacting revenge for leaving her. He implies Jim is physically abusive towards Ellen, urging officers to look into his criminal record.

Sergeant Ganz confronts Ellen with Eddie's claims, but she vehemently denies everything. She attempts to file a restraining order, but locating Eddie proves difficult. Later, Eddie breaks into the Carsons' home and vandalizes Ellen's clothing, leaving behind a disturbing note that reads, "Come back to me." When Ellen and Jim discover it, Jim begins to suspect there may be truth to Eddie's accusations.

The police sweep the house but find no evidence linking Eddie to the break-in. A process server attempts to serve the restraining order but can't find Eddie. Meanwhile, Ellen is lured to show a house to a new client-Eddie, using the alias "Carl Fisher." He nearly attacks her in the basement but is interrupted by the home's elderly owner, Mrs. Tate.

Eddie retaliates by sabotaging scaffolding at Jim's construction site, injuring two workers. OSHA launches an investigation. That same day, Eddie picks Cynthia up from practice under the pretense of taking her to watch the UC swim team. When Ellen arrives to pick her up, she learns from her stepdaughter's friend that Cynthia already left-with "the recruiter."

Panic-stricken, Ellen rushes to the police. Reviewing high school surveillance footage, she identifies Eddie as the fake homebuyer. Another officer recognizes him as the man from the road rage incident. An APB is issued. The police attempt to wiretap the Carson phone line, but with no proof Cynthia was kidnapped, they can't get a search warrant.

Ganz finally confirms to Ellen and Jim that Eddie is indeed the former delivery driver Ellen reported. He reveals Eddie's tragic backstory-his family died in a car crash six months ago. Ellen realizes that Eddie is trying to rebuild the life he lost by replacing his wife and daughter with her and Cynthia.

Cynthia returns home unharmed, explaining that Eddie only spoke about wanting a new family to take on vacation. Soon after, Eddie calls Ellen, blaming "people like her" for his suffering. He threatens her with an ultimatum: either she comes to him-or he'll come for her.

Ellen's situation worsens when Mrs. Tate discovers several antiques missing after the house showing and threatens to sue, firing Ellen as her realtor. Desperate, Ellen confronts Steve, threatening him with legal action unless he helps find Eddie. Steve provides the information needed, and the process server finally locates Eddie to serve the restraining order.

For a brief moment, the Carsons breathe easy-until Eddie retaliates again. He vandalizes Ellen's car and locks the family inside it, terrorizing them before letting them out and speeding off. His obsession deepens. Eddie doctors old family photos, replacing the faces of his deceased wife and daughter with Ellen and Cynthia.

He reconnects with Nina for a date and learns that the Carsons are staying with her for the evening, not feeling safe in their own home. After abruptly leaving the bar, Nina follows him to return his jacket. Curious to see his place, she lets herself in and discovers the doctored photographs. Eddie kills her.

The neighbors, hearing her screams, call the police. Her body is found, and Ganz, realizing Nina and Ellen work for the same realty group, deduces Eddie will come for Ellen next.

That night, Eddie breaks into Nina's apartment and attacks Ellen. Cynthia fights back, smashing a vase over Eddie's head. Mother and stepdaughter flee but Eddie chases them, rear-ending their car and dragging Ellen out. He threatens to kill her unless they leave with him.

Jim arrives moments later and notifies Ganz. Meanwhile, Eddie forces Cynthia to drive out of town. On the freeway, Cynthia slams on the brakes, sending Eddie crashing into the dashboard. Ellen and Cynthia escape as Eddie stumbles out of the car and is struck by a semi-truck, which overturns in the impact.

Sergeant Ganz later confirms: Eddie Madden is dead. The Carson family, though deeply shaken, is finally safe.
