Charlie Polinger’s debut feature “The Plague,” which will have its world premiere in Cannes’ Un Certain Regard section, will be launched to buyers at the Cannes Film Market with UTA Independent Film Group and Cinetic co-selling the U.S. rights and AGC Intl. handling the rest of the world.

The film, written and directed by Polinger, stars Joel Edgerton and an ensemble of young newcomers including Everett Blunck, Kayo Martin and Kenny Rasmussen.

“The Plague” is the story of an anxious 12-year-old navigating the savage social order at an all-boys water polo summer camp. He is pulled into a cruel tradition targeting an outcast with an illness they call “The Plague,” but as the lines between game and reality blur, he fears the joke might be hiding something real.

Michelle Trachtenberg’s cause of death will remain a mystery as her family has decided not to perform an autopsy.

According to the New York City Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Trachtenberg’s family opted not to have an autopsy performed on the 39-year-old actress. An autopsy is required if foul play is suspected but since none is in this case, the examiner is following the family’s choice.

Trachtenberg, the former child star known for her roles in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and “Gossip Girl,” died Wednesday, Feb. 26. She was 39.

“It is with great sadness to confirm that Michelle Trachtenberg has passed away,” her publicist told TheWrap on Wednesday. “The family requests privacy for their loss. There are no further details at this time.”

Sarah Michelle Gellar quoted her iconic character in her tribute to the actress behind little sister Dawn on Thursday.

Netflix just unleashed the action thriller Carry-On to all of their subscribers, and so far, reviews have been solid for the release, registering an 83% on Rotten Tomatoes. Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra from a screenplay by T.J. Fixman, the film follows a Tsa officer, played by Taron Egerton, who is blackmailed into letting a dangerous package onto a plane on Christmas Eve. Setting this all in motion is a character played by Jason Bateman known as "Mysterious Traveler" in the credits.

Following the rollout of their more traditional holiday fare, Netflix is heading into “Die Hard” territory with the release of their Christmas-set action movie “Carry-On” — and it’s got a cast full of familiar faces.

Directed by “The Shallows” and “Non-Stop” filmmaker Jaume Collet-Serra, the film follows a Tsa agent and wannabe cop who gets his chance to bring down the bad guys when a mysterious traveler blackmails him to get a dangerous package through airport security.

Taron Egerton plays Tsa agent Ethan Kopek, who gets blackmailed into helping a criminal sneak a mystery bag onto a plane. Egerton’s best-known roles include Eggsy in the “Kingsman” films, Elton John in “Rocketman” and the voice of Johnny in the animated “Sing” movies.

While the Christmas horror movie seems to be having a moment right now thanks to the box office success of "Terrifer 3," we must not forget the time-honored tradition of the Christmas action movie. The most popular example of this sub-genre is, of course, John McTiernan's 1988 classic "Die Hard." Whether or not you want to count "Die Hard" as a Christmas movie is entirely up to you, but the fact remains that the film is set on Christmas Eve. And in the wake of "Die Hard," many other action flicks found ways to set their events during the hap-happiest season of all. Hell, "Die Hard" wasn't even the first '80s action pic to use Christmas as a backdrop. The first "Lethal Weapon" movie, released a year before "Die Hard," takes place around Christmas, so does the 1985 Chuck Norris movie "Invasion U.S.A.," as well as is Sylvester Stallone's 1986 trash classic "Cobra.

Back in September, it was announced that Evan Peters (Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story), Anthony Ramos (Twisters), Ashton Kutcher (That ’70s Show), and Jeremy Pope (Hollywood) are on board to star in The Beauty, the latest show that American Horror Story and Monster co-creator Ryan Murphy has in the works at FX. Now, Variety has broken the news that Rebecca Hall of Godzilla x Kong: New Empire has also joined the cast.

Filming on The Beauty is already underway. FX has given the show an 11 episode order. While the series is based on the Image Comics series of the same name by Jeremy Haun and Jason A. Hurley, plot and character details are being kept under wraps. So for now, we can only go by the description of the comic book series to get an idea of what the show is going to be like: Modern society is obsessed with outward beauty.

Each and every month, Netflix removes a variety of movies and TV shows from the streaming service.

The first month of the new year, January 2025, will be no exception, with 27 total titles being expired from the streamer.

Michael Jackson fans need to wait longer for Antoine Fuqua’s highly-anticipated biopic about the King of Pop to rock their world after Lionsgate announced delays for two of its films. The studio’s Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, is moonwalking to a 2025 Easter window (April 18-20 to October 3) while looking to dominate the box office during the bunny-themed holiday. In addition to telling Michael to “Beat It” to later next year, Lionsgate dated Aziz Ansari’s upcoming comedy, Good Fortune, for October 17, 2025. According to Deadline, Good Fortune stars Keanu Reeves and Seth Rogen. It focuses on “a well meaning but rather inept angel named Gabriel (Reeves) who meddles in the lives of a struggling gig worker (Ansari) and a wealthy capitalist (Rogen).”

Lionsgate has tapped Adam Fogelson to succeed Joe Drake as chair of its movie division.

It’s understood Drake initiated the transition as he works with Fogelson — currently vice chair of the Motion Picture Group and overseeing the worldwide marketing and theatrical distribution — over the coming months to ensure a smooth succession.

Former STX Film chief Fogelson joined Lionsgate in September 2022 and reported to Drake, chair of the studio’s Motion Picture Group. His move to Lionsgate followed the Hollywood studio exploring a possible takeover of STX, a deal that didn’t come to pass.

Drake rejoined Lionsgate in 2017 after running Good Universe Pictures, the second company acquired by Lionsgate from Drake. He reentered a studio different from the one he left in 2012, as Lionsgate had moved beyond its hit Hunger Games and Twilight franchises to leverage a diversified portfolio of film and TV properties across multiple platforms, especially after acquiring Starz.

Exclusive: Rob Reiner, Mira Sorvino and Michelle Krusiec are set for guest-starring roles in Ryan Murphy’s upcoming Netflix limited drama series Hollywood. They join previously announced leads Jeremy Pope, Darren Criss and David Corenswet.

Few details are known about the series, which Murphy calls “a love letter to the Golden Age of Tinseltown.” It is believed to be set in the 1940s and center on three lead characters — played by Pope, Criss and Corenswet.

Reiner will play Ace Amberg, Sorvino will portray Jeanne Crandall and Krusiec will play Anna May Wong, Hollywood’s first Chinese/American movie star. No other character details are being revealed.

Last month, the Nigerian star, who recently passed the one-million-subscribers mark on YouTube, flew to Los Angeles to work on a project by Beyoncé. Beyonce released her single “Spirit” on July 10 in anticipation of Disney’s live-action remake of “The Lion King,” which opens on July 19 and features the song.
