Law & Order Svu spoilers and updates reveal Odafin Tutuola ( Ice-t) is set to endure some serious challenges when Svu kicks off its 27th season, as revealed by Ice-t himself. “In the premiere episode, I face a tough situation that lands me in the hospital,” the rapper-turned-actor shared with People during a recent interview, building excitement for Svu’s return on September 25.
Fin Might Be Out Of Commission For A While
Indeed, it appears that Fin’s hospitalization may temporarily sideline the New York Police Department sergeant; “I missed the second episode, but I’m back for the third,” Ice-t shared.

This month marks an achievement in television with the Law & Order franchise turning 35. We’ll be celebrating all month long.
For first making a splash in the early 1990s, you’d think the older episodes would be dated or hard to watch in 2025. That’s not the case at all.
I’ve seen the first episode of Law & Order: Svu several times, and now that the older seasons of the original Law & Order are on Hulu, I finally got to see its premiere episode too — and was surprised by how relevant it still is today.

Judy Reyes, who was an integral part of the 2022 horror hit Smile, will reportedly reprise her role from Scrubs in the upcoming reboot (via Deadline). The actress played nurse Carla Espinosa in the show and was a regular for eight seasons. She did not return for the ninth season, titled Med School, but will reportedly be coming back for a guest role in the revival.
The Scrubs reboot was in the works for quite some time and was finally given a complete series order by ABC for the 2025-2026 season. Actors Zach Braff, Donald Faison, and Sarah Clarke are set to return to the show, reprising their roles from the original,...

A divisive crime drama series that starred Bryan Cranston has penned a fourth remake deal so far this year. A highly successful television genre, crime dramas are becoming even more popular. On top of long-lasting shows like Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, some newer crime dramas include Mobland, Tulsa King, and On Call.
Since Cranston will forever be known for headlining Breaking Bad's cast of characters, some of the actor's other shows and movies don't get as much attention. For example, some may not know that his recent movie, Everything's Going to Be Great, got great reviews. Despite Cranston's obvious talents, some of his projects haven't been as well-received.

Ice-t has revealed that his Law & Order: Special Victims Unit character will get badly hurt during season 27's premiere on September 25 on NBC. After premiering in September 1999, Law & Order: Svu has become one of the longest-running shows ever. Law & Order: Svu focuses on the New York City detective unit, including Mariska Hargitay's legendary character, Olivia Benson, which investigates sexually-based crimes.
After Law & Order: Svu's season 26 ending involved a character getting a promotion and a huge investigation, the show's return won't be so positive. Instead, one fan favorite member of Law & Order: Svu's cast of characters will wind up suffering during the upcoming season premiere.

Even though she’s not as active on it now, Mary Neely has Twitter (now known as X) to thank for launching her career. The actor went viral in the early days of Covid-19 for uploading videos of her re-enacting famous musical numbers to the platform – playing all the roles with whatever homemade props, costumes and wigs she had lying around. Why Twitter/X? Neely is blunt: “Purely because of music copyright issues,” she says. “Every time I tried to upload them to Instagram or TikTok, they would immediately get flagged or taken down. I figured it didn’t matter because no one was paying attention anyway. And then it changed the course of my life.”
Neely jumped from about 800 followers to more than 30,000 after TV critic Emily Nussbaum tweeted her and she began to hear from Broadway legends like Lin-Manuel Miranda and Kelli O’Hara. She also heard from several creatives behind popular shows,...

Another Tom Hardy series is finding success on digital and streaming. The actor's eight-year-old BBC series Taboo has been rediscovered by audiences, who will soon join fans of the drama in waiting for the long-gestating second season.

The Prime Video TV series adaptation of the popular Fallout video game franchise already had a second season in the works before the first season even started streaming – which turned out to be a good move, because Fallout quickly became Prime Video’s second most-watched title (after The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power), drawing in 65 million viewers in its first 16 days of release. Fallout season 2 started filming around nine months ago, and yesterday we saw the first images from the new batch of episodes. William Mapother, who played the antagonist Ethan Rom in Lost, is related to Tom Cruise. Not many people know that these two actors share a blood relationship. And even fewer fans will know that these two actors have collaborated in a total of four movies.
They first appeared together in Born on the Fourth of July, which is Cruise’s collaboration with controversial director Oliver Stone. While Cruise played Sergeant Ron Kovic in the film, Mapother played one of the Platoon members in Vietnam.
They next collaborated in the Paul Thomas Anderson film, Magnolia. Cruise’s role in the movie was that of a pickup artist and motivational speaker, Frank Mackey, which earned him critical acclaim. Mapother had a small role in the film as an assistant to the director of the in-film quiz show, What Do Kids Know?.

Why does television so misunderstand Gen Z? As a 20-year-old who watches a lot of TV, I pause before getting my hopes up about an authentic portrayal of a Gen Zer on a show, preparing instead for the cringiest one-liners and actors who should be playing 35-year-olds.
While Euphoria is plenty entertaining, it can feel more like fantasy to many actual teens whose lives and traumas aren’t so glittery — how are none of them getting dress-coded? The Sex Lives of College Girls took an honorable stab, but the characters can feel like caricatures. The executives who greenlight these things don’t understand that, typically, shows targeted at younger audiences don’t actually resonate with younger audiences.
Unlike Hannah Horvath in HBO’s millennial gem Girls (resurgently popular among Gen Z), I do not claim to be the voice of my generation. But it does feel like an appropriate time...

Kelli Giddish is back on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. For longtime fans, it feels like a homecoming. With the much-anticipated Kelli Giddish Svu return, after her emotional departure in Season 24, Giddish will return as a series regular in Season 27.
Her comeback doesn’t just revive a beloved character. Although she appeared in a recurring role a few times after her departure, this marks her official return as a full-time cast member. It also strengthens the show’s core dynamic and storytelling power.
Detective Amanda Rollins has always been a fan favorite.

Brian Cassidy needs to stay gone.
He had a perfect exit at the end of Law & Order: Svu‘s first season. But he’s guest-starred on the series several times since then, and each appearance is worse than the last.
Law & Order: Svu Season 27 promises to bring him back yet again, and I can’t imagine a reason this return will be anything but pointless and annoying.
(Peacock/Screenshot) Cassidy Left Svu Because He Couldn’t Deal With the Trauma, so Why Does He Keep Coming Back?
The only episode I ever enjoyed with Cassidy was his original exit.
Cassidy spent most of the first season as a stereotypical macho cop who annoyed victims with insensitive comments, then decided Svu wasn’t for him.
It was too traumatic, and he couldn’t deal with it. It was his most respectable storyline, and it should have been his last.

Sitcom stars in a procedural crime drama? Yes, why not? After all, it’s often joked in Hollywood that almost everyone worth their salt has appeared in a Law & Order episode.
5 actors from Modern Family who have starred in the Law & Order franchise are Sarah Hyland, Ariel Winter, their on-screen parents Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen, as well as Celia Weston. All of them have appeared in the long-running franchise between 2001 and 2024. So, it means it was anywhere from their pre- to post-Modern Family careers.
Also, these appearances spanned all across the Law & Order franchise, including Svu and Trial by Jury. It isn’t surprising that some of the biggest sitcom stars would also have starred in an episode (or more) of one of the most successful and long-running TV franchises. After all, it would have allowed them to flex their drama muscles and prove their versatility...

Almost seven years ago, it was announced that a reboot of Buffy the Vampire Slayer was in development with Monica Owusu-Breen, co-creator of the TV show Midnight, Texas, writing, executive producing, and serving as showrunner. It was said that the new show would be “contemporary, building on the mythology of the original.” That project never made it into production – and earlier this year, it was revealed that we’re going to be getting a Buffy the Vampire Slayer revival instead, with Sarah Michelle Gellar returning to the role of Buffy Summers and Chloé Zhao directing the first episode. Since then, teenage actress Ryan Kiera Armstrong (Firestarter) has been cast as a new slayer (an introverted high school student named Nova)… and now, filming is underway! Gellar has been spotted on the set of the pilot episode, and those images can be seen at the bottom of this article.

Faly Rakotohavana (Unprisoned), Ava Jean (Law & Order: Svu), Sarah Bock (Severance), Daniel Di Tomasso (CSI: Vegas) and Jack Cutmore-Scott (“Frasier”) recently joined the cast of creator Chloé Zhao’s (Nomadland) “Buffy” reboot project as series regulars.
Deadline notes, “Armstrong plays the new slayer — an introverted high-school student named Nova — in the untitled Buffyverse project, which Gellar executive produces.
From what we understand, the series will also feature legacy characters from the original ’90s series. The reboot aims to “find a balance between new and old characters.”

The rumors are true! Chase Sui Wonders will appear in the upcoming Buffy reboot which has a pilot order at Hulu.
In an interview with Deadline, Wonders said she was currently shooting the new Buffy pilot in Los Angeles, where the original series was filmed. Wonders came to the project after connecting with Sarah Michelle Gellar on this year’s I Know What You Did Last Summer.
“Sarah Michelle Geller is just such a force to be reckoned with,” Wonders said. “We became fast friends on I Know What You Did last Summer. She’s an incredible woman and just a cool person, and she asked me if I wanted to do it. Then she told me about Chloé Zhao directing and [Nora and Lilla Zuckerman] showrunning. And then Eric Kissack, who is actually our editor on The Studio, is also editing the Buffy series.”

Elliot Stabler isn’t the only one returning to Law & Order: Svu. Dann Florek’s Captain Don Cragen is, too.
Cragen, of course, was the original Svu captain until he hit his mandatory retirement age during Law & Order: Svu Season 15.
As much as Benson deserved to be promoted to Captain and squad leader, we lost something important when Cragen left Law & Order: Svu.

In early episodes of Law & Order: Svu, Cragen was part mentor, part tough dad… and he was always an obstacle to closing the case.

A common joke amongst Swifties — the very passionate fans of pop star Taylor Swift — is that we're all so lucky that Swift decided to pursue music instead of becoming a serial killer. Obviously, this is tongue-in-cheek and refers to Swift's love of planting cryptic, clever Easter eggs for her fans to find as she gears up for a new announcement or album release, but it's also a nod to her famously well-documented love of crime-centric television. This is all to say that it shouldn't come as a huge surprise that Swift once guest-starred on an episode of "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation" — specifically, in the show's ninth season in an episode titled "Turn, Turn, Turn," which aired in 2009.
The episode ostensibly focuses on crime scene investigator Nick Stokes (original cast member George Eads) as he's called to a seedy motel where a murder occurred on his birthday, but Swift's character, Haley Jones,...

You can’t keep a good woman down. Last May, it was announced that Kelli Giddish would return to Law & Order: Special Victims Unit as a series regular, reprising her role as Sergeant Amanda Rollins. Although she has appeared as a special guest star since her departure, Giddish has not been a regular cast member since Season 24 Episode 9, “And a Trauma in a Pear Tree,” when Rollins married Ada Dominick Carisi Jr. (Peter Scanavino) and left the squad to teach at Fordham University. Reunited with her old squad, Giddish is thrilled to be back. She shared her happiness in an interview with Extra, where the Svu actress discussed her return as a series regular and what it means for both the show and her character. She also offered a glimpse at what fans can in the upcoming season and how her return will impact the squad room. “I...

The Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, which reportedly has "New Sunnydale" as its working title, has started shooting in Los Angeles. With that comes what appears to be a first look at Star Wars: Skeleton Crew star Ryan Kiera Armstrong as the show's new lead slayer.
There have been some grumblings about the 15-year-old Armstrong being a little too young for this role, and she definitely looks like a high schooler here. However, it's worth noting that in the original series, Buffy Summers was also only meant to be 16, though Gellar was 20 at the time.
Sarah Michelle Gellar is reprising her role as Buffy in the series, which added Rakotohavana (Secret Society of Second Born Royals) as Hugo, Ava Jean (Law & Order: Svu) as Larkin, Sarah Bock (Severance) as Gracie, Daniel di Tomasso (Witches of East End) as Abe, and Jack Cutmore-Scott (Oppenheimer) as Mr. Burke earlier this week.

It looks like Jon Bernthal is more than ready to give us a full-blown dose of his unforgettable version of Marvel anti-hero Frank Castle. After making his return to the Marvel Universe in Daredevil: Born Again's first season, Bernthal has moved on to a project of his own creation — a new Special Presentation (similar to Werewolf by Night and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special) starring The Punisher. In a video posted on social media, Bernthal appears thanking the crew for the twelve-day shoot and giving a wrap speech.
In the video, Bernthal shares his amazement and sense of accomplishment after pulling off a task that he calls "impossible." The actor was the one who came up with the story, and he co-writes and co-directs the special with Oscar nominee Reinaldo Marcus Green (King Richard). Since then, teenage actress Ryan Kiera Armstrong (Firestarter) has been cast as a new slayer (an introverted high school student named Nova), and now, Gellar has shared a video that shows her training for the show side-by-side with Armstrong! After a few lackluster seasons, Law & Order: Svu Season 27 sounds like a vast improvement.
For starters, Amanda (Kelli Giddish) will be back full-time. It’s a nice reprieve after a revolving door of new characters who haven’t quite fallen into place.
And now, a special episode includes an extensive line-up of returns. However, this makes us wonder if the team is celebrating or mourning Cap. Don Cragen.
(NBC / Virginia Sherwood)
We’re not sure when it will air, but the line-up seems similar to Law & Order: Svu’s 500th episode, and includes Chris Meloni (Elliot Stabler), Brian Cassidy (Dean Winters), and Dr. George Huang (Bd Wong).
While Don Cragen has appeared on Law & Order: Organized Crime, he did not appear on Law & Order: Svu Season 23 Episode 6, which is the show’s milestone 500th episode.

Reneé Rapp has a pitch for the writers of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
The actress-singer was recently asked for the Today show’s “8 Before 8” video series, “If you had a guest starring role on Svu, what character would you play?” And it’s safe to say she doesn’t want just a victim or killer role.
“Let me tell ya. I would be Mariska Hargitay‘s lover. She would be gay, finally,” Rapp responded, referring to the actress who plays Captain Olivia Benson on the long-running police procedural.
“There was an episode where they were talking about it and considering if she was gay,” the “Leave Me Alone” singer recalled. “I feel like Christopher Meloni’s character [Detective Elliot Stabler] was like, ‘No, like, you’re a lesbian.’ And she was like, ‘Um, no.’ Liar.”
As for how Rapp imagines her storyline unfolding on Svu, she added, “I would be her lover...

As part of Collider's Exclusive Preview event for fall movies, we can exclusively share a new image from the film that shows a young boy locked in terror as he stares into the shadows. They've done it again. Longtime best friends and former Law & Order: Special Victims Unit co-stars Mariska Hargitay and Christopher Meloni have broken the internet (and this author.) Hargitay and Meloni previously broke the internet back in March, when Meloni filmed a scene for the Svu and L&o crossover "Play With Fire." Season 27 has officially been underway for nearly two weeks, with a premiere date set for September 25. The series will premiere alongside the flagship Law & Order for Season 25, as well as a first-time broadcast of Law & Order: Organized Crime Season 5. After set pictures surfaced of major cast members gathering, such as Hargitay, Meloni, Ice-t, Peter Scanavino, as well as former Svu cast members Dann Florek and Dean Winters, fans speculate something big, something nostalgic, is coming. Could that nostalgia also finally give Eo their endgame?

Jonathan Kaplan, the filmmaker who steered Jodie Foster to an Academy Award in 1988’s “The Accused” and later collected five Emmy nominations for directing and producing “ER,” died Friday, August 1, at his Los Angeles home after a battle with liver cancer, his daughter Molly confirmed. Born in Paris on November 25 1947, to composer Sol Kaplan and actor Frances Heflin, Kaplan studied at the University of Chicago before moving to New York University, where mentor Martin Scorsese recommended him to producer Roger Corman. Corman assigned him the drive-in hit “Night Call Nurses” (1972), launching a run that included “Truck Turner,” “White Line Fever” and the suburban-rebellion drama “Over the Edge” (1979). Hendrickson, who currently appears in the recurring role of Chloe Mitchell on “The Young and the Restless,” announced the news in an Instagram post, saying, “After 24 years in front of the camera, I’m thrilled to be able to tell you all that I’ve stepped behind it.” She added, “I’ve spent the past 18 months up in the booth, shadowing, observing & absorbing — not knowing if it would ever turn into something more. “On Tuesday the 5th my first episode will air,” Hendrickson continued. “I hope you enjoy it as much as I did directing it.
