The only film I have ever fallen asleep to in a cinema.
To start with, this is an extremely dull film. The acting was melodramatic, punctuated by supposedly meaningful looks . This film lacks any kind of gumption and includes a truly mind numbingly wishy washy plot.
On the plus side there are some good scenery and costumes. Quite high production values.
I have seen many better Swedish films than this e.g. "As it is in Heaven"
If you really have trouble sleeping at night then i recommend this film and a comfy pillow.

A very interesting movie, dealing with "womens lib" in the early twenties, a young womans desire and fear for love, and simultaneously providing you with a historically interesting picture of the early Swedish aviators. Terrific acting almost on all hands, the only exception as always Richard Wolff, who as usual plays himself. Even the dialects are well done, with some understandable exceptions; sometimes Roney is back in Stockholm but it's hard to blame him.
The only problem from my point of view is that Troell is Swedens Orson Welles! Just like Welles, he made the movie of his life on his first try. Troells "Här har du ditt liv" (1966) is such an amazing accomplishment that it is simply impossible for him to beat, and you always get the feeling that he is trying! Well, he didn't pull it of this time either, but possibly this should be higher than my 7/10.

10lars-1
The film is quite slow, unlike a typical modern American film. I just love the mood in the film and the lightning is superb. The film is full of wonderful images. Coming from the same part of Sweden as film is taking place in, I enjoy the scenery and the accent of the actors. The music and sound is outstanding. I love the movie!
This apparently is based on a true person - but is quite free with the interpretation of what actually happened. So while I wouldn't know what actually went down and how much freedom this took and .. flew away with (no pun intended), I can say that the movie tells quite the intriguing story.
And it doesn't just work as a female empowerment piece. This is a movie about following your dream(s). And who can not relate to that? Exactly - suspend your disbelief and just spread your wings... don't do that, you need an airplane, otherwise this doesn't work. And even then, best is to have a pilot - unless you are one yourself always quite important. As you will see in the movie too in more than one scene.

I´m ashamed to be a swede. A typical swedish movie. No tempo and nothing happens, really dull. The whole story is about a woman who shall take a flying certificate.
Amanda Ooms is the only positive thing.

- QuizThe character Felix Hansson was named Pål Hansson in the novel. The name was inspired by Hans Pålsson, a famous pianist and friend of Jacques Werup. When Pålsson got cast in the movie, the character's name was changed.
