I damned near laughed myself SICK!
Join Berke in his attempts to regain the love of his Childhood Girlfriend (Alison - played by Melissa Sagemeier) by joining the school drama production.. however he is thwarted by the Super Smooth Straker.. but its not easy as Straker can sing, dance, play the piano, and was a member of a boy band.. Berke is Helped and Hindered by his friends along the way leading to some hilarious scenes.
However, Berke is so blinded by his love of Alison, he completely misses Kelly's (Kirsten Dunst) attempts to gain his affections.
However Best-over-acting-and-getting-away-with-it award goes to Martyn Short, who steals the show as the manic producer of the school Drama based on Midsummer Night's Dream.
As the film progresses, so does the humour.. cumulating in a production-within-a-film of the Schools play. Brilliant songs and musical score, however I challenge anyone not to be enraptured by Kirsten Dunst when she sings 'Dream of You' SIGHHHHH!!
Give this film a try, it does not use Semi-Nude girls to sell the film (there is one short swimming pool scene which is Most Pleasant (DROOL), but thats about it.
8/10.. Funniest film I have seen this year
The movie does constantly slip in and out of reality but the amazingly funny songs do hold it together and leave the the audience with the tunes stuck in there heads for days! With Vitamin C appearing in the opening sequence and the finale alongside Sisqo, it is hard not to fall in love with the music! I think it is clever that the movies narrative is based on Shakespeares "A midsummer nights dream" which is also the play that is performed in the finale of the movie. And Get over it could be used in schools to help desperate teenagers to understand the sometimes complex story lines of Shakespeares plays. Overall the movie fits the typical teen movie criteria, but at the same time it has some quirky gimmicks that are really funny. Its a perfect film to regain that feel good feeling after a rubbish day!
I'm extremely biased as I've watched this repeatedly: I really like modern, palatable adaptations of Shakespeare (which we seemed to quit after this), this even got me over not liking Kirsten Dunst.
I get it if you think this movie is dated, hell it has Vitamin C and Sisqo in it, and it is full of tropey stuff, but when this was made, that was relatively newer stuff, and some of the things that people make fun of in later rom coms stems from this movie and its late 1990's early 2000's family.
Music / singing in movies is fun, it's not always great, but it's usually fun (see Trolls: most people have fun, it doesn't "help" the story though), and setting a complex teen rom com at a high school level makes the music an easy palatable distraction.
And this movie has a great cast, they clearly had fun making it: Martin Short of all people, even in 2001, Mila Kunis, Ben Foster, Colin Hanks, Zoe Saldana, Shane West, and even Carmen Electra makes an (uneccessary) cameo.
While I'll admit the story is a little rudimentary, extended from Mid Summer Night's dream, and relying on stock characters to basically do what stock characters stereotypically do, there is just a lot of charm in this. For me, it's about demonstrating the relationships between the characters to make the world feel real.

- QuizKirsten Dunst makes her singing debut with "Dream of Me", which is also included on the film soundtrack.
- BlooperIn the bench kissing scene, the editors decided to digitally remove the beer bottle from Kelly's hand. They didn't replace it with anything so it looks like she has a deformed claw for a hand when she walks to the bench and sits down. Later in the scene, the bottle is off to her left where there was no bottle before.

Dr. Desmond Forest Oates: Keep icing your front bum. Swelling continues if you don't ice. And I need you... not really.
- Curiosità sui creditiNo animals were harmed in the making of this film. However, we did manage to sprain two ankles, break one wrist, squirt one extra in the eye with chili and drive our UPM into insanity.
- Versioni alternativeThe original version was rated R and contained more sexual dialouge with Mistress Moira, and a more explicit view of the strip club. It was cut in order to gain the teen audience the film was aimed for.
