I have lost countless hours of sleep in the middle of the night, waiting to hear Melissa McDermott on CBS UTTM... Meg Oliver is cool, but not the same. I told CBS previously that she should take over the post vacated by Dan Rather. Today, I hear that Katie Couric from NBC got it. Fine; BUT WHERE IS MY FAVORITE JOURNALIST: Melissa McDermott? She has disappeared from radar screens ......
I thought I liked Les Moonves; but he does not believe in promoting from within. Even if the choice for the evening news was not Melissa, the person should have been from CBS. I know that it is all ratings-based ($$$$) but there is such a thing as company loyalty, viewer loyalty and the like. I am 48 years old and a lifelong CBS enthusiast and have consistently all my life promoted CBS News and their entertainment programming to my friends and co-workers. I did it WITHOUT being paid. Guess what? I am now going to watch Elizabeth Vargas on ABC World News, and ALL of their other shows! (I don't have cable)

This show is the best place I've found to hear thoughtful and deeper coverage of current events. Half-hour news shows in prime time don't have the ability to spend sufficient time on important topics. Cable news drives me nuts, waiting to hear meaningful information between all the filler.
Visiting experts are allowed more time to give background information. The quality of invited experts is consistently high. There is none of the usual standing about with a microphone finding creative ways to avoid admitting that there is no factual news to report.
Since I record and watch later, I can FF through any repeat stories (a 30- minute news cycle, I think) and look for the longer pieces that have better content about current events.
Hosts tend to cycle through, moving on to better time slots, I suppose. But, the regular hosts are normally talented journalists and interviewers, not people asserting opinions and striving to focus the spotlight on themselves.
