Sultry Spanish Film and Recording Star Has Died
Legendary Spanish-born international film and music icon has died Sara Montiel, also known as either Sarita Montiel or, at times, Saritisima, was one of the Spanish-speaking world's biggest stars. She died on Monday, April 8, apparently of "natural causes" at her house in Madrid's district of Salamanca. She was 85 years old. Earlier today, a cortege driving through the streets of Madrid was attended (and applauded) by thousands of mourning fans. Montiel was born on March 10, 1928; according to online sources, her birth name was María Antonia Alejandra Vicenta Elpidia Isadora Abad Fernández; her father was a small farmer and her mother was beauty products salesperson. She left behind her poverty-stricken childhood, spending her days in the streets of her small village while dreaming of Spanish film star Imperio Argentina, after moving to Madrid in her mid-teens. Diction and singing lessons followed. Eventually, she started appearing in films, landing two roles in 1944 releases:...

Johnny Depp Revives 'Don Quijote'
Nikolay Cherkasov and Yuriy Tolubeev in Don Chisciotte (1957)
It seems like Johnny Depp's story with the legendary literary character, “Don Quijote de la Mancha,” has not come to an end.

After becoming part of filmmaker Terry Gilliam’s frustrated project recreating the adventures of Don Quixote in "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote" back in 2000, the actor is now planning to use his own Infinitum Nihil production company to produce a modern version of the iconic classic.

But he's not doing it alone. According to Entertainment Weekly, Disney has closed a deal with the actor and will help showcase Spanish novelist Miguel de Cervantes’ famed tale. Reportedly, the film will be written by Jeff Morris and Steve Pink, who worked together on the set of the upcoming "True Memoirs Of An International Assassin."

A couple of years ago, the actor had been a part of Gilliam’s project interpreting the farmer-turned-squire Sancho Panza. However, after facing several technical and financial problems,...

Robert Duvall at an event for Tutti insieme inevitabilmente (2008)
Exclusive: Terry Gilliam Wants Robert Duvall to Play Don Quijote de la Mancha!
Robert Duvall at an event for Tutti insieme inevitabilmente (2008)
When I interviewed Terry Gilliam for The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus a month ago, he told me he had his new Don Quijote de la Mancha, but he wouldn’t reveal who he was. When I asked him if this person could help with the financing of the movie, he said he couldn’t. While I spent some time trying to figure out who it could be, with little more to go on, I gave up, knowing it would eventually come out.

And it did. Today.

That’s because a few minutes ago I was interviewing Robert Duvall (on camera) for his new movie Crazy Heart and he told me Terry Gilliam wants him to play Don Quijote! This is assuming Gilliam can raise the money. While I wish I could post the video of him saying it and provide exact quotes, I’m still at the hotel. But when...
