    My humble opinion

This TV show is quite entertaining for both kids and adults.

For kids because there is a lot of action and a generally easy to follow plot. The main characters are a pretty nice role model, they are poor, humble, simple folks, and yet they fight hard for what they believe in. Even if they are minority and so few people acknowledge them, in good or bad times the Togakuri family will stay united.

For adults it gets a bit trickier. Most will soon realize the ambiguity of dialogues and plots that actually don't seen too well planned. Specially if you watch the translated (portuguese) version, you will often notice some lines were probably not carefully translated. For example the word for sign and inscription in the Japanese language, might be the same, and when they are making references to those 2 things at the same time (Dojo Sign, and half of the Insciption), they use the same term, which is pretty confusing. But thats exactly what makes it a very entertaining show for adults. If you have a silly type of humor you will just crack yourself up with this show =)

I never get tired of it. I have seen all episodes when I was young, taped many, and I still watch them back and forth when I need a good laugh.

Its very hard to find them on tape though. They were not a big hit in japan, and in Brazil its dimming away.

    Hope this was helpful.

    Japan Makes Cool Shows

It seems apparent that many Americans do not know about this show. Maybe Americans who have lived in Brazil, especially like 25-years ago when this TV show aired. Or, Americans who lived in Japan when this TV show was on T.V. Also, Americans who are studying Japanese TV shows, as this falls under the Metal Heroes category. I'm not too familiar with many other Metal Heroes shows besides this one. Watching this T.V. show will remind lots of Americans of a T.V. show we are more familiar with, which is the Power Rangers. While Power Rangers has an American cast, the action scenes were Japanese. So, we see similar action.

You can watch this TV show from 1988, and seriously not believe that it is almost 30-years old. It will take us back to a simpler time in the late 1980s. This show is different than live action TV shows we'd watch in America from that same era. Jiraiya takes us back to late '80s Japan, so we will see '80s clothes, hear '80s music, along with '80s lifestyle in Japan. Despite how the fashion has changed, it most likely will not look that old because while this show is before the internet era, it will still show technology that is impressive today nearly 30-years later, and an entertaining action plot that is timeless with sword fighting, martial arts, and ninja action.

What also makes this show entertaining, is how it is a family friendly TV show. The show involves a united family, the Yamajis. The main character: Toha/Jiraiya, the father Tetzuzan, the teenage sister Kei/Emiha, and the kid Manabu. A family of ninjas and Martial Artists who protect the treasured map leading to Pako from the evil Sorcerers Clan. There are also many other ninjas and characters who appear on the show. It's very cool to see an '80s Japanese family lifestyle along with how they work together to solve problems, and lessons we can learn from the TV show with ninja action.

While this TV show is Japanese, it most likely is better known in Brazil. If you look up this show on YouTube, the music you hear will be Japanese but most, if not all the footage from the show will be dubbed into Portuguese, and most of the comments will be from Brazilians who talk about missing the time when they were kids and this show aired. I'm not Brazilian, but I have a Brazilian friend who showed me episodes from this show back in 2008. I don't understand everything in Portuguese, but from the day I saw this show I was flabbergasted at the action and interesting story of Japanese ninjas in Modern Day Japan.

Another cool thing about this show, which happens in a lot of Japanese TV shows including Dragon Ball Z. I'm sure you'll like the music in the TV show. Rather than just background music, it has songs written just for the show you hear during certain scenes. So good action, with good music. Most American shows won't have songs written just for scenes that aren't openings.

Anyway, even if you don't understand Portuguese or Japanese, I'm sure if you look at this show online, you will be amazed at how entertaining a Japanese TV show from the '80s is!! I feel like Japan has the best ideas for action shows, more than any other country, and has more relatable plots. I wish this show came out in the U.S. like it did in Brazil, or had DVDs released with English subtitles like they did with Zyuranger. It most likely never will, but I feel lucky to be one of the few Americans that knows about this show!!

Masaaki Hatsumi is in fact the head of the Japanese martial art Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu, which consists of nine schools/styles/Ryuha. In 2019 he passed Sokeship ("head of school") of the Togakure Ryu to Takami Tsui Tsui. This particular Ryu is a Ninjutsu school.
