Demolition Highway

The really good ones suck you right in and you're oblivious to anything around you. Then there are those such as this one, where you simply chuckle or shake your head at their attempts to be serious. Frank has every reason to "have it in for" Xavier: Frank was imprisoned for five years, rather than implicate Xavier; Xavier was responsible for the death of Frank's girl; and Xavier took Frank's half-a-million dollars. So this movie is about Frank's vendetta against Xavier. He first meets and frees Xavier's reluctant concubine. Subsequently, they have many run-ins with Xavier and his crew, including a bunch of biker thugs. Best advice I can give to those considering watching this movie: After reading these comments, look at something else.

A favorite YT series of mine that covers bad movies in fun fashion did a 'Demolition Highway' episode recently, but I didn't see myself giving the full thing a go as it looked to have only one killer moment. Maybe on the "strength" of that bit or my own stupidity I watched it anyhow. An uncensored look confirmed it was indeed a doozy, but the rest wasn't.

Criminal Frank (Danny Fendley) 500k richer ambushed by thugs sees both him and his girlfriend shot (she dies) and the money taken. Frank ends up doing five years in prison, but upon getting out is picked up by old faces who leave no ambiguity boss Xavier Cardone (Joe Estevez) is behind the event years ago. So he seeks a measure of revenge against his old crew while protecting Summer (Lisa Tyre) caught in the middle.

Fendley sounding like a bargain basement Luke Wilson isn't a horrible actor, but he is stuck here. Joe Estevez well versed in cheap b-movies spews his dialog with zest and is a constant visual reminder of Emilio, Martin Sheen. Though it's blonde Tyre who gets the honors of being the biggest burst of joy. Unleashing her big guns and getting naked in the prerequisite sex scene is one of the best I've ever seen in an action pic and that's saying something. Very energetic performance.

Throw Uncle Joe kudos for chewing the scenery. Two big stars for Lisa. Otherwise 'Demolition Highway' is a bad movie for sure, but ain't a lot of fun. Very cheap, often boring and Tyre's only credit. Would have liked to see her again, but that's probably not my big brain talking right now.

This is an example of using good actors to salvage a story plot that has been done a million times. Strong, tough, but nice guy (Danny Fendley) is done wrong by the mean, evil, owns the town rich guy (Joe Estevez) but the good guy wins in the end. Danny Fendley and Joe Estevez are two very good actors that do a good job with what they have to work with. The two men have a strong 'on screen' chemistry and both seem to bring the best out of each others character. Obviously the supporting cast were not as experienced but all did a reasonably good job. Danny and Joe are very convincing as as Frank and Xavier. Good guy vrs. Bad guy. There is a place for these movies in the entertainment world. The film was entertaining and the performances were strong. You won't get quite the special effects package that you will in a Bigger Hollywood action film but the effects are still impressive.

For a post-80's action flick, I have to admit this thing checks all the boxes for what passes for entertainment by my own warped standards. Basically, every scene in the movie is totally retarded, either because of the terrible acting, terrible script, or completely ridiculous jams the main character keeps finding himself in. How many times can you walk right into an obvious trap? How many times can you have your gun taken from you? A lot of the "actors" in this thing look (and act) like people they just found off the street and the budget of this film is almost non-existent. Pretty much every scene in this movie is ridiculous in its own special way so I won't even start, but since when does the leader of a biker gang ride "bitch"? If you are a fan of dumbass action flicks, this one, while not quite top shelf, is still a quality piece of crapola and well worth wasting an hour and twenty-six minutes of your life over. Good stuff.

A parolee who dresses like a pirate seeks revenge on the gangster who betrayed him (Joe Estevez), and in doing so teams up with a kidnapped lady and runs afoul of a inept biker gang. Writer-director Donald Farmer, who's made better films, does everything he can to pad out the running time, including letting Estevez et al talk at great length. This never really comes to life but it is fairly sordid and seedy. Recommended only to Farmer completionists, though I shudder to think that such a creature might exist (and that I might be one).

I wanted a bad movie, and that's what I got. It's stupid, clumsy, occasionally slow and occasionally hilarious. The action scenes have more ambition than skill and the chases have some of the slowest moving cars I've ever seen. As a real movie, it's pedestrian, as a so bad it's good one it's serviceable.
