One of the best Bollywood movies... Very lovely,sentimenatal,emotional,touching .... very near to real life.

Acting superb Direction superb Music superb

a new definition of love and perfect presentation of this new meaning. Aishwarya and salman in love in first part but then ajay enters and studd acting and how he acts when he knows truth after his marriage with aishwarya.

10/10 from my side...

"Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam" is Bollywood in its purest form - and a stunning achievement. It's an epic of grand emotions, gorgeously filmed and well acted. At 188 minutes, it seldom seems overlong and at the end left me crying. Yes, they pulled all the right strings.

The story tells of Sameer (Salman Khan) who comes from Italy to India to learn classic songs - and falls in love with Nandini (Aishwarya Rai), the daughter of his teacher. I don't want to spoil what happens next, but a couple of unexpected things kept me involved in the somehow simple story.

The first hour does not really progress much story-wise. It's all character development and a lot of song and dance. It's actually more a mixture of a ballet and a musical, than a film. There's more music than in your average Bollywood film - and what feels different is that it's not your usual number where the actors pretend to sing, but it's more like traditional background music, where you listen to music and the actors dance and move to it.

The second half involves a lot less music but the plot gets heavier. And until the end, it builds up. Competent direction by Sanjay Leela Banshali ("Devdas"). Additionally, the images are amazing. Director of photography Anil Mehta ("Lagaan") is in the bloom of his craft. Even if you don't like the story, you'd have to agree that it's a visual feast.

That, of course, is also true for Aishwarya Rai. 1994's Miss World has never looked this good, I believe. She radiates beauty in almost every shot and is the most charming when she's the most natural. It's easy to see why Sameer would fall in love with her. Khan plays Sameer as he plays a lot of his characters, and it works. He too looks very good in the film. Of course he takes off his shirt a lot - but his body appears more virile than in other pictures so that it too works well. Finally, Ajay Devgan plays the solid counterpart to the two love birds. His role gets more important as the film progresses and his performance comes off as both strong and restrained.

"HDDCS" might have some flaws (the music, although rather good, is not memorable), but it is great entertainment. Out of all the love stories Bollywood offers us each year, this one emerges as a winner.

This is a superb movie that everyone has got to see. In my opinion, Aishwarya Rai has given her best performance till now. The movie has captured the breathtaking beauty of Rajhasthan and Gujarat and you can also view the cultural settings of India. Everyone is decked in elaborate clothes and jewellery and it's huge family living in a mansion. The story begins with a famous classical singer and his family all living in this huge mansion. He has a student coming from Italy named Sameer (Salman Khan) to learn classical music from him. Sameer meets and falls in love with his beautiful and talented daughter Nandini (Aishwarya Rai). Soon, her father finds out about this affair and orders Sameer to leave and as part of his 'gurudakshina', never to see Nandini again. He leaves and Nandini becomes really depressed. Her parents arrange her marriage with a family friend whose son Vanraj (Ajay Devgan) is a lawyer. Nandini is 'cold' to her new husband and he soon finds out why when he reads Sameer's letters to Nandini. He becomes angry but soon realizes that in order to make his wife happy, he's going to have to find Sameer. He therefore sacrifices his love for her and takes her to Italy in search for Sameer which becomes tough because Nandini doesn't have a picture of Sameer. While they are searching, Nandini gets shot by theives who take all their money and jewellery. Vanraj takes good care of her. While Nandini is in the hospital, Vanraj meets Sameer but he doesn't realize that this is the guy they are looking for. Soon, they become friends. Finally, Nandini has a chance to meet Sameer but she realizes that her feelings for him have changed. So, whom will Nandini chose? To know, you've got to watch the movie! Ajay Devgan has given one of his best performances ever. It is definitely a movie worth watching. Ash looks stunningly beautiful decked in traditional Indian clothes. The songs are also extremely good.

Yes. Simply Outstanding. This is truly one of the best Bollywood movies to come out in a long, long time. A great commercial hit back in our India, it also swept all the major awards. Though I'm from India where Bollywood movies are compulsory watching, I dislike them for their absurdity but this film has me raving about it. Its simply fabulous.

Set in western India in a prosperous Gujarti household overflowing with people, lives Nandini, our heroine (the beautiful Ashwariya Rai), daughter of a renowned singer Pandit Durbar. Sameer (Salman Khan), a handsome young Italian who comes to learn classical music from the Pandit falls in love with his daughter. As the movie enfolds, we watch the beautifully enacted comedy of the star crossed lovers. But once the father comes to know, all hell breaks loose. Sameer is thrown out of the house, Nandini's heart is broken and she is married of to a young, respectable and well mannered suitor Vanraj (Ajay Devgan) who truly loves her but is detested by Nandini. But the husband also discovers about the affair, is heartbroken too, but decides to take Nandini to Italy to meet her lover.

As the plot moves to Italy (Hungary actually, which the director would have us believe as Italy), we are engaged in Nandini's and Vanraj's troubles of living in a foreign country, finding Sameer and living with each other. As she searches for her love, Nandini comes to know her husband and how much he truly loves her and realizes his grief and sense of loss in losing her. When she finally does find Sameer, she's torn between the two and must choose one of the them and break the heart of the other.

This is Bollywood at its best. Here the wonderful music that goes with this film, it underlines each scene with its sparkling melody. Also the set pieces are lavishly mounted and the music numbers burst upon the seen. The movie is also very beautifully shot.

This movie also captures Ashwariya Rai at her best. She is miraculously beautiful and lights up the screen whenever she's on it. All in all a must watch Bollywood affair. Iwould also recommend the same director's (Sanjay Leela Bhansali) Black, which is the story of a dumb, deaf and blind girl.

One day, a movie called "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" was released. It was one of the best movies in Hindi movies and remained that way only until a few months ago. I believe we have a movie to take that place.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali is a genius. What more is there to say? This movie is undoubtedly the best movie I've seen in years, packed with superb acting, beautiful costumes and dazzling scenery. It's better than Dil To Pagal Hai, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Duplicate put together!

This is THE best movie of the year. I know the word "TAAL" comes into mind, but that was junk compared to this. Aishwarya Rai gives a MUCH better performance in this movie. She is the most surprising thing about the movie. She has proven herself to be one of the best, if not the best, talented actress. Now Aishwarya has risen to the number one actress spot on my list.

This is an absolute must for any person who watches Indian movies or even once did and now doesn't. This movie WILL NOT fail you. If possible, try to get the movie on DVD, that is the only way to recapture the actual colour from the film.

A young musician (Salman Khan) travels from Italy to India to learn music from a master singer. He strikes a discord with the musician's daughter (Aishwarya Rai) even before he arrives, which is of course a natural precursor to falling in love. Unfortunately, the ultra-conservative family do not take kindly to the young lovers relationship, as they'd much rather their daughter married a nice lawyer like Ajay Devgan.

Star crossed lovers have been the meat and bones of Bollywood for a good many years now, so the first half of HDDCS at least plays out without many surprises. It's a fairly lightweight romance that spends more time on songs and dances than dialogue. The dance routines are beautifully choreographed, and the whole production looks luscious and expensive with its grandiose sets and costumes. The romance itself is only mildly engaging, as both characters tend to act like brats most of the time, and it's hard to really feel any enthusiasm for their cause.

Unsurprisingly, the intermission marks the turn-around point, where the situation gets more complicated and the fluffy romance has to make way for melodrama and contemplation of more serious issues. This does make the second half more interesting than the first.

HDDCS looks gorgeous. Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali would go on to make DEVDAS more recently, famed for being the most expensive Hindi production ever, and almost gratuitous in the opulence of the art design. HDDCS is a little less extravagant, but still full of images of luxury and privilege. The desert mansion in which most of the film takes place is stunning, and the cinematography makes good use of it. Aishwarya Rai is dressed and made up quite beautifully, though she would probably look stunning under any circumstances. She is also a great dancer, and gets plenty of chance to show it in the film. Salman Khan is okay as the passionate Sameer, but sometimes seems to rely on taking his shirt off over acting well, and can be rather annoying at times. Ajay Devgan is superb, though his role is smaller.

HDDCS is perhaps the most song-intensive Bollywood film I've seen, with the first half especially being practically 50% songs. The music by Ismail Darbar is pretty good, but he's certainly not A.R. Rahman, and few of the songs are really catchy or memorable. I doubt I'll buy the soundtrack for this one. The choreography is of course superb - India is to dance as Hong Kong is (was) to action - unsurpassed.

Ultimately I was disappointed with HDDCS on two fronts. First is that Salman Khan & Aishwarya Rai's characters just aren't likeable enough to really care about them in the first half of the movie. Second and biggest is the conservatism running throughout the film. Although I think it tries to present a balanced perspective, ultimately it seems to promote very traditional and repressive values, and at times comes across like a religious lesson. This doesn't make it bad for everybody, but it's not something I like in a film. Thus, although I can appreciate the films aesthetics it did not work on an intellectual level for me.

For me this is the greatest romantic film of bollwood till date. An all time classic. A gem of indian film industry. A masterpiece by sanjay leela bhansali. Outstanding story , outstanding performances from everyone but specially salman khan.he was brilliant in this film. Top class direction and top class music. A must watch for all movie lovers.

Nandini is the daughter of a renown singer, Pandit, who takes Sameer to be a pupil. Nandini and Sameer secretly fall in love. As her family doesn't know, they betroth her to another man, Vanraj. When Pandit learns of the love between his daughter and student, he sends Sameer away and Nandini is married to Vanraj. Vanraj learns of her love for Sameer, and, as is inevitable with a love triangle, heartbreak happens.

Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam begins as a romantic-comedy, light-hearted and fun, with a sweetly developing romance. About half way through, it turns into a drama that, quite frankly, had me ugly-crying by the end. While a love triangle is not a new plot, this one was well written and deep.

Aishwayra Rai is a terrific actress and acted her part magnificently. Both Salman Kahn and Ajay Devgan were excellent as well, each one giving depth to his character. The music and choreography was memorable, and the cinematography breath-taking. This is a superb, emotional romance that is all around spectacular. I highly recommend it.

HDDCS must have come straight from Sanjay Leela Bhansali's heart. Each and every scene is well-executed. It's a little unrealistic to have the husband help find the wife's lover, but movies have that little license to stretch the truth and I suggest we just let loose once in a while. Aishwarya Rai has been presented more beautifully than she already is. It's so ironic that she was once written off as wooden because she truly shines in this film. Her emotional scenes are a delight to watch. Even when she's not speaking, she communicates with her eyes, which is lovely. Even Salman Khan acts FAIRLY well in here. You can't tell when he's crying or laughing, but every time he irritates you, just turn to Ash for solace. Ajay Devgan does what he's best at. The romantic, silent hero. Hey, he's good at it, so I have no complaints.

The sceneries are beautiful. There's not a song on the soundtrack which I don't like. Chand Chupa Badal and the title song are especially beautiful. The choreography is superb. The "Tadap Tadap" scene is perhaps one of the best I've ever come across. I confess. I actually cried during that song. :P The characters are so well-etched that you really don't know who to root for. You want Salman to get the girl, but you feel for Ajay, too.

Bhansali is an artistic genius. He has surpassed his previous film (Khamoshi) with this flick. Can't wait for his Devdas.

Ok, this was the first Bollywood film i had seen & it meet all of my expectations of a Bollywood film.

Bright Colours - Check Song & Dance routines with little or no relevance to the plot - Check Forbidden love in a rigid society - Check

Very entertaining, has some laugh's in it & a not so surprising ending by the time the ending finally arrives. Could have been shorter if they had cut out some of the unnecessary dance scenes, but then it wouldn't a Bollywood film would it! If Bollywood is famous for one thing, it dance scenes!

A good introduction to those who have never scene a Bollywood film 7/10

I missed the first half which was supposed to be the "comedy" section I suppose.There were no subtitles and since I speak no Hindi,it took me some time till the first commercial to find the title and look up what the plot was supposed to be. By that time,I was already aware that Salman Khan had broken his teacher,student relationship and been banished,that he loved Nandini,that she was allowed to break things willy nilly but not to refuse marriage with a man she didn't love. The comedy part escaped me. I was about to change channels when I realized the husband was played by the young man who did such a good job in the recent movie about a young Sikh freedom fighter. When he,playing Raj, and Nandini, left for Hungary,I thought it was for a belated honeymoon. Remember-no subtitles. But THAT was supposed to be Italy????? My only complaint was that the hotel staff on the phone spoke English with an Italian accent when they were so obviously Hungarian. Silly me. I don't understand the lure of Italy perhaps when Hungary is so distinctive and charming. Why couldn't Sameer be half Hungarian? I'll buy the movie for my kids,since they ARE half Indian and half Hungarian and it was nice to hear the language and see how well the people fit in. I loved the Hungarian dance sequence. Maybe they'll redub it and take out the reference to Italy.It just wasn't right.

This movie is absolutely OK I've even bought the DVD. The acting is fine and the songs are good even though I'm not Indian I love those songs. Ash was also looking gorgeous. But somehow I feel I would have liked the film better if Sameer had gotten Nadini at last. You know even though I really love to I've never been able to bring myself to watch the film the second time. I feel somehow like their love failed and to me love never fails unless of course if all the while what Sameer and Nadini had for each other had just been a crush and Nadini later saw developed real love towards her husband when she realized he could sacrifice anything for her even his own happiness just to make her happy.

This movie is the best movie i have seen after"Mr India".I never knew Bhansali could produce such a beautiful and a colorful movie.Everything about this movie is mind blowing.Direction is mind blowing,Script is excellent,Dialogs are excellent,Photography is brilliant,Costumes are excellent,Cinematography is mind blowing.Story is wonderful.It tells about Sameer who is half Indian and Italian who is going to learn music from a master singer.He falls in love with Nandini the teachers daughter.One day a love affair happens and Sameer is forced to leave.Nandini is upset.She marries Vanraj.On the wedding night she is not enthusiastic.She wants to go to Sameer.They go to Italy and Budapest.Aishwarya looks gorgeous as ever and delivers a mind blowing performance,Salman who does overacts in his movies(Except Hum Saath Saath Hain and Chori Chori Chupke Chupke).He gives a mind blowing performance,Ajay also gives another mind blowing performance,The others acted great too,The comedy is excellent,Fresh and hilarious.The on screen chemistry between Khan and Ash is mind blowing.Song picturisations are superb and the singers do a fantastic job.Anyway the music is mind blowing,The most beautiful picture of all time.Better than Devdas.Must See Rating-10/10

This movie is one of the overall best movies I've ever seen,be it Hollywood or Bollywood.Sanjay Leela Bhansali's direction is nothing less then inspiring along with some of the most wonderful music ever heard, wonderful spirited acting, and the most beautiful sets ever seen, this is a definite DEFINITE must see!!!

This movie is a complete copy of 80's Hit Woh 7 Din, I am really shocked why that movie does a average Business and this becomes a Superhit. Why Is It so? Lets start with the first half, Uff over acting of Salman, How bad actor he is man, he has the ability that he can flop any movie due to his overacting, why Bhansali choose this person in the movie. Film is really a bore one, and there's nothing in the first half expect few good acts of Aishwarya. But songs are the good one. Main twist in the movie is the second half, the movie becomes so emotional that anyone can cry, Specially Salman, what a emotions, superb acting, No1 can act better than him in second half. Ajay is a good talented actor, and I believe that Bhansali had not give him a good lengthy role, though Ajay rocks in his small role, Jhonka Hawa Ka and Tadap Tadap ke is my favorite songs in the movie. Ashwarya and Salman Chemistry is good in the movie, and Salman is good in second half but disappointing in first bcoz of overacting. Ajay had done his part beautifully. Rest supporting cast is good. And Bhansali is a great Director, he shows this with this movie.

Bhansali made Khamoshi and though getting high ratings by critics the film was rejected by audience. With HDDCS Bhansali has won the confidence of both critics and audience.

Nandini(Aishwarya Rai) falls in love with Sameer(Salman Khan), a music disciple of her father.Sameer also deeply loves Nandini. But her conservative father is against the relationship and sends Sameer back to Italy ,where he came from.He marries off Nandini to Vanraj(Ajay Devgan).Vanraj comes to know about the relationship between Nandini and Sameer.He then ,defying the society, decides to take nandini to Italy to hand her over to her love,Sameer.And then starts the beautiful journey of love,affections,confusions and hesitations all of which I think are the beauty of human emotions.

Ajay is awesome and the movie is a must watch just because of his performance.He has perfectly portrayed an ordinary looking,shy yet bold guy. Aishwarya delivers her best performance ever as an aggressive and defying lady.Salman looks good in his nonsense "cool guy" act.But He gets over that nonsense stuff and delivers in the climax.

The music of the movie is a class act by Ismail Darbar. Songs like "Aankhon ki Gustakhiyaan" and "Chaand Chhupa" will always be remembered.Kavita Krishnamurthy is fabulous.Kay Kay has delivered his best with "Tadap Tadap ke".Hariharan's "Jhonka Hawa ka" is one of the best songs I have ever heard.

One of the best movies I've ever seen. It won't disappoint you.

Disappointing. The basically vapid plot butchered what could have been an interesting idea. The film seems to rely excessively on the appeal of Aishwarya and Salman to conceal the fundamental flaws of bad acting, toilet humor, and cheesy songs. In addition, some of the sets were clearly faked. Now, I know Bollywood, and I would have been willing to put up with some cheesiness and inconsistencies if I saw occasional good acting and at least one catchy tune. Right off the bat, all I saw was Aishwarya giggling and acting like a dumb little pretty face, which is SO not what I expect from her. Salman's acting, emotions, and lip-synching seem utterly contrived and lifeless. Shah Rukh Khan is so much better and so much more emotionally charged! If you are a newcomer to Indian films, like me, go rent "Devdas" or "Kal Ho Naa Ho" instead. Maybe I have Western tastes or whatever, but I've seen a lot of corny musicals in my time, and liked most of them. This was the bottom of the barrel, and I can hardly believe that that Bhansali went on to make "Devdas" after producing this cheap masala movie. PS I am a fourth generation Italian American. Salman's scene where he makes up a stupid "Italian" custom downright enraged me. Was it the director's intent to B.S. this way?? I feel I am being generous by giving this film four stars.

This movie is one of the best Hindi movies i have ever watched. Aishwarya Rai as Nandini was simply wonderful, Salman Khan as Samir added a little comedy in the film. The story is a romance and drama. Samir(Salman Khan) is an indo-Italian student who comes to learn to sing from Nandini's father(Vikram Gokhale)and stays a year there. In the process Nandini and Samir fall in love, but she is arranged to be married to Vanraj(Ajay Devgan). Nandini sees Samir behind her father's back. Her father finds this out and Samir is sent away. Nandini Marys Vanraj. One day she receives letters from Samir and Vanraj sees them and becomes angry. But since Vanraj loves Nandini....he takes her to Italy to find Samir. What happens next in the story....it is up to you to find out! The movie was wonderful, the locations were beautiful, the songs were the best! The acting was great!!! overall i give this movie a 9/10!

This movie is 3hrs long, but the pace of the movie was sufficient,so that the passage of time wasn't an issue. It's about a girl(Ash) who meets an Italian-Indian (salman).He stays at her home learning music/song from her father Initially she doesn't like the foreigner, but in time they fall in love with each other. At the same time a lawyer (ajay) see Ash and falls in love with her...in fact he asks for her hand in marriage. Her family agrees to the marriage, and she's reluctantly married to ajay. Meanwhile salman had asked to marry her and he was refused,so he goes away dejected. Ash is "cold" to her husband and he finally finds out why. He loves her so much that he's prepared to sacrifice his love by taking her to Italy to find salman and reunite the lovers........
