I know everyone said this movie was utter crap and I agree with them. I spent a few years after seeing it telling other people it was crap. I recommended they not see it. But when it came on TV, we saw the ad. I turned to family and said: "I know this is sad, but I'm thinking of watching it". My sister turned to me and said: "Yeah, me too." And you know what? It was funny.
By no means is this a good movie. It's absolutely a waste of time. But it's a good waste of time. You may still think it's crap and fair enough, but I thought it was a really funny slapstick comedy. I didn't like a couple of bits, like when the fish got hit by the car, but apart from that I thought it was good. I loved sitting there and picking out all the famous Australian faces: Flacco, Elle McFeast, Garry McDonald etc.
So, if you like to waste your time, watch this movie. Otherwise, see a drama or something.

After the MGM lion, the first words we see are 'A Serious Film'. Don't you believe it!
As a child, Roger lived in a trailer, and his parents were cruel. They discouraged him from using his imagination, and because of the way he was brought up, he became obsessed with taking things apart.
In the present, Roger lives in a high-rise apartment building. We are introduced to a very accident-prone man. Then he goes to work at The Big Egg. More chaos! We later learn the only reason he has a job is that he is friends with Lyndon, one of the executives. Early in the movie, Duxton takes over the company from his brother.
Lyndon thinks Roger should go out and meet girls. So they go to a bar, and Roger's outfit makes a Hawaiian shirt look conservative. The night doesn't go too well, but Roger later meets Sunday, a dumb blonde who has moved into Roger's building. She was dating Duxton until he was a jerk. Sunday is actually quite smart at times, and she enjoys astronomy. This helps Roger get interested in the stars as well, but an even bigger influence on Roger is the Volkswagen hubcap he finds after one of his many accidents. At least the strange bald man SAYS it is a Volkswagen hubcap ...
This was a very funny movie, though aside from Yahoo Serious and possibly Helen Dallimore and Grant Piro, I don't think anyone really could act. The physical comedy was good, but not spectacular. Every once in a while, Roger had a series of accidents. One of the best of these scenes involved a trash avalanche. There was also a string of mishaps in a restaurant, and Roger's pathetic car often provided laughs. No matter what, it would run. And the air bags worked. Eventually.
What exactly DO you do when a waiter hands you the cork from your wine bottle? You won't believe what Roger did. And don't ask him to make you a cappucino while you're on the phone discussing exports. Especially if you want to make Chile one of your new markets.
Duxton was a cruel, cruel man. He gave a new meaning to 'downsizing'. See, he took old refrigerators to a do-it-yourself recycling place. If he had a grudge ...
The version I saw was cleaned up for TV, and there were still a few risque moments, but it wasn't too bad. There seemed to be a lot of bad language that had been edited, though. considering that this was a live-action cartoon, I would have thought it would be cleaner.
This movie was good for laughs. Not a real quality production, but fun.

I just saw this on television and I am happy to announce that I can finally answer my nephew's question as to what is the worst film I have ever seen, at least in the comedy category. To describe this film as elementary school level would be to insult elementary school students, who I think could create something far better. Yahoo Serious has apparently gone on a well deserved march into oblivion.
Saw it on a coach, I fondly remembered Young Einstein and it hitting at the right moment, this just felt a bit tired in execution, I know the film is coming from a good place, and maybe the plot would of worked if it had more going beneath the surface instead of everything being a setup for the next gag, the "deer in a headlights" performances can be charming but it wore thin pretty quickly.
Production value was pretty decent though and I can't fault them for not trying.
The characters overall varied and they did not cut corners on sets and production design.
The writing was just bad, I think it needed a way better plot, I wanted to like it but I maybe laughed one time while he was digging around in the pit, needs an edit maybe it could work better, its an interesting production all the same, if any credit could be given it would be for trying to be original with an old premise in an Australian setting.
Run time was to long and getting through the story felt badly paced, I really think and edit on a montage or two maybe with a good Crowded House tune might have helped to charm it along better not sure what would have worked but it felt like it had a lot of the right ingedients it was just badly put together, maybe they did not know what they had in the edit, but what they ended up with sadly was a bit meh.

I remember back in 1988 when "Young Einstein" came out and Yahoo Serious came onto the big screen. That was a classic Yahoo Serious movie. This one had it's moments, but overall lacked a consistant storyline. It jumped from place to place. All though Aussies loved this move, the US has been luke warm to it. Rock on Yahoo Serious!
