I've seen eight of Bob Kirk's porn films, and they're all deficient in some major ways. Oddly enough, he's one of the most self-promoting pornographers of all time, here starting the film with a big "Bob Kirk Presents" credit, and voicing over his name and promise for a sequel "at this theater, don't miss it!" instead of including an ending.
It's preserved on video on Vol. 171 of Something Weird's Dragon Art Theatre series.
Title refers not to anything dirty (though meant obviously as a double entendre) but rather to the subject matter popular 30 years later in the Jennifer Aniston/Vince Vaughn vehicle THE BREAK-UP.
Paul Scharf as Jack and his plain-Jane sweetheart Cheryl (an unknown actress) are the splitees. They fight constantly over ne'er-do-well Jack's refusal to look for a job; instead he hangs out on the golf course or horses around with his buddy Ed (journeyman porn performer Spender Travis).
After giving Jack an ultimatum about finding work, Cheryl goes for a job interview to be a waitress (only paying $2 an hour plus tips), but the guy hiring insists on sex. This results in a three-way with his secretary Miss Fisher (another unidentified thesp).
Our pals Jack & Ed visit a porn filmmaker, a guy at a moviola who rhapsodizes about his profession. This non-sex role might have been played by the real Bob Kirk, but it doesn't matter -it is self-reflexive in any case.
Two pretty girls Sally (Spring Finlay) and Janet (the oddly-named actress "Gabriel") answer the filmmaker's ad in the paper, so Jack & Ed are assigned to audition them, cueing a lengthy foursome sex scene.
Frank calls Cheryl to announce he's splitting for Reno, while a married guy services Cheryl after telling us his wife is Cheryl's best friend. The helpful narrator promises us Sequelitis action to come in Reno and with Cheryl, but fortunately there's no evidence Maestro Kirk ever shot one.
Cast does a poor job with their improvised dialog, and at one point Frank is referred to as Paul by another character, using the actor's real name. Kirk ground out these 1-day wonders like sausage, and the poor quality shows. I was most annoyed at his wasting the talents of Spring Finlay, one of porn's greatest redheads.
