Taye Diggs on getting his groove back in ‘Forever’: ‘This role was very therapeutic for me’
Image
"She put me on the map."

So says Taye Diggs of Terry McMillan, the writer-producer who catapulted him to stardom in 1998 with How Stella Got Her Groove Back.

Reflecting on that period of his life, the 54-year-old actor remembers fully expecting to become a star. "I don't know who I thought I was," he recalls with a laugh (watch our full video interview above). "I remember graduating from college and saying, 'I'm going straight to the top.' When I got Rent (on Broadway) I was like, 'Ok, when is the next movie coming?' I don't know where I got that confidence from because I don't have it anymore."

Looking to get his own groove back, Diggs reunited with his old friend in Lifetime's Terry McMillan Presents: Forever. Diggs served as an executive producer with McMillan and star, playing Johnnie, a military veteran who falls head over heels for...

Making ‘Stella,’ Angela Bassett Totally Dug Working With Taye Diggs
Angela Bassett in Benvenuta in paradiso (1998)
Image Source: Amazon When the film How Stella Got Her Groove Back was released in 1998, its star was clearly Angela Bassett, who’d been on a hot streak with movies like Waiting to Exhale, What’s Love Got to Do With It, Contact, and Malcolm X. But now, 27 years later, Stella is remembered less for Bassett’s role than for the first on-screen appearance for a young actor who not only stole the show, but wound up becoming both a Hollywood and a Broadway star in his own right: Taye Diggs. At the time of Stella’s release, Bassett talked about what it was like to work with her young, but then-unknown co-star. Black Panther Star Angela Bassett: “I thought it was a given” That I Was Supposed To Win the Oscar, Not Jamie Lee Curtis
Image
Angela Bassett has had a stellar career. Having made her debut in the 80s, the Waiting to Exhale star has not turned back ever since. It has all been about going from one strength to another for her.

It doesn’t come as a shock that she was regarded as one of the most renowned celebrities recently in 2023, having received an Honorary Oscar for her contribution to the industry. But she had a minor (read major) qualm. The ceremony was indeed a bittersweet one for her – she failed to walk away with the Oscar she intended to win that day.

10 Romance Movies From The 1990s That Were Ahead Of Their Time
Image
Romance movies say a lot about the contemporary cultural mindsets of the time they were made, and the 1990s are no exception. Filmmaking and moviegoing were changing during this pivotal decade, and many topics that were considered taboo were brought to the forefront of cinema because society was becoming ready for more subversive and experimental movies. Whether this was expressed through style or subject matter, the way these films approached storytelling holds up well when compared to modern works. Many of the filmmakers behind these projects have gone on to help transform cinema.

The 1990s are often considered a large part of the Golden Age of rom-coms, but many of the most revolutionary pieces of cinema from the decade brilliantly blend genres. Though there are many great rom-coms from the '90s that are better remembered, they're of their time and adhere to the formulas and archetypes that were popular at the time.

Taye Diggs' 10 Best Movies And TV Shows

Taye Diggs got his start in the professional performing arts world on stage, not on screen. He had a successful Broadway career with roles in Carousel and Rent before he appeared in his first TV roles in 1996. Diggs first big screen break was with the romance How Stella Got Her Groove Back in 1998. Hes been nonstop as an actor and writer ever since. In fact, in addition to all his work on screen, Diggs has also written four childrens books and founded a dance company. Garcelle Beauvais
Garcelle Beauvais said her May-December romance film “Terry McMillan Presents: Tempted by Love” won’t avoid any of the realities that come with women and aging, noting that menopause and body aches are part of the natural process of getting older.

Whoopi Goldberg Reveals Her Dream Role And It’s Surprising

Over the years, Whoopi Goldberg has played a lot of interesting characters, from an amateur singer posing as a nun – re “Sister Act” – to an ex-convict who can talk to ghosts. But she hasn’t quite landed her dream role yet, and believe me, it’s a shocking one.

Whoopi Goldberg Wants “To Be the Horror” In Dream Role

One reason we love Goldberg is that she tells it like it is. If she wants to be the monster, she will not be shutting up about it.

Goldberg’s latest revelation comes after some absence from ‘The View‘ as she recovered from a bout of covid.

As she interviewed stars Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones on this Thursday episode of the show, the 68-year-old giddily shared that she would find her perfect dream role in no other genre but horror.

“Playing a villain is wonderful. You’re the last person people are thinking.

Angela Bassett: Getting Her Groove On As Narrator of National Geographic’s ‘Queens’
Image
Angela Bassett’s career took off in the 1990s with films including What’s Love Got to Do with It – which earned the actress her first Oscar nomination — Waiting to Exhale and How Stella Got Her Groove Back.

But her success in just the past half-dozen years has managed to surpass the Yale Drama School graduate’s initial rise to fame.

In the latest example of a surge that began with 2018’s Black Panther, Bassett’s powerful, mellifluous voice provides the narration for a groundbreaking Emmy-contending National Geographic wildlife documentary series, Queens, which chronicles the natural world and its distaff leaders through a uniquely female lens.

A lioness shows aggression towards the pride male.

Bassett’s voice illuminates stories of species as diverse as elephants, hyenas, whales, lions and bears and how they are led by females with a range of leadership styles. It’s another breaking of the mold of traditional natural history filmmaking,...

Image
Rick and Morty season 7's episode titles have changed, becoming harder to decipher with fewer references to existing movies and shows. Episode 3, "Air Force Wong," suggests the return of Dr. Wong and possibly the US President, providing continuity from previous seasons.

10 Heartwarming Summer Romance Movies
Image
When it comes to heartwarming summer romances, movies can capture the joy of love and the endless feeling of summer so expertly. While some memorable films chronicle whirlwind romances that aren't built to last, others explore the origins of enduring relationships. Regardless, summer romance movies capture formative moments in the characters' lives, reminding viewers of their own sun-soaked vacations and amorous adventures.

Of course, so many summer-set rom-coms and romantic dramas veer into sentimentality. While heartwarming, these movies don't quite capture the nuance of what it's like to spend unending days with a life-changing someone. The best summer romance movies provide a healthy dose of cheesiness alongside a convincing dynamic. From jukebox musicals like Mamma Mia! to classic rom-coms like How Stella Got Her Groove Back, the most compelling romances delight viewers — no matter the genre.

12 Great Romance Movies Where An Older Woman Dates A Younger Man, According To Reddit
Image
There are plenty of movies about romances between people of different ages, but when it comes to movies about women who love younger men, they are often rare and sometimes fail to deliver without falling into cliché tropes. However, this is not always the case and there are some films that treat these romances with respect and don't shame the characters on either side of the love story. When it comes to these movies, some love stories feature younger men and mature women, even in movies like The Graduate where the actors playing them are closer in age than the characters they portrayed. However, sadly, in some movies that showcase a romance where there is a large age gap between the two leads,...
