A Tarana to remember

Movies from a particular era have a re-curring theme which is presented with a switch of either environments or time. This film is no exception. What really makes it watchable is the chemistry between Dilip and Madhubala though a modern movie fan will be hard pressed to go through the tedious routine of song after song. The script as in most movies by Dilip is very good, the direction capable and the music extremely likable and full of romance.Dilip and Madhubala are fantastic as the lovers whilst Kuumar is brilliant as Madhu's father. The rest of the cast is solid.Watch out for a standout by Shyama. The heart of the film lies i the haunting songs of Talat Mahmood.A neglected film not readily available on DVD but a great advertisement for the legends that were Dilip and Madhubala.

A must watch for Madhubala Fan

You can clearly see Madhubala and Dilip Kumar were in love in this movie. Their chemistry in early romantic scenes is simply beautiful to watch. Madhubala looks so beautiful, vivacious and mesmerizing that you wont be able to resist falling in love with her let alone Dilip Kumar.

Movie contains a love story between Motilal(Dilip Kumar Sahab) from a rich well being and a village girl, Tarana(Played by Madhubala ji), the story starts when Motilal landed on Tarana's village and hence starts thier love story. Tho only spoiler - can be given - this is a simple love story with a happy ending. But the people want to experience the method acting, the golden era of Bollywood, the strength of acting, must watch this movie, a milestone for Bollywood

The most fascinating movie that I have ever seen in my life

I can say without any reservation that it is the very movie that has left a profound and deep-rooted impact and enchanting impression upon my mind. I have seen this movie for at least ten times but to my amazement I am cognizant of some people who have surpassed me in viewing this great movie. One of them told me that he had seen this movie for 131 times and that every time spellbound and his overwhelming enjoyment augmented his enthusiasm to see this movie again and again. Another acquaintance of mine proclaimed that he viewed this movie for more than 70 times and he was at a loss to understand what sort of magic and attraction was infused that he always achieved a novel kind of pleasure and inspiration out of this movie. In short, I am sure that "Tarana" is replete with beauty, art and aesthetics. It is mainly because of unique and marvelous acting of Dilip Kumar and Madhubala, apart from excellent music, production and direction of this great movie. It is, no doubt, the most outstanding and unforgettable movie, to say the least of it. Madhubala has always been my favorite heroin and I am obliged to pay a rich tribute to Madhubala in the form of an Urdu poem, "Yeh Salam-i- Shauq Hey Mera Madhubala Key Naam" .

Tragedy for the viewer

Dilip Kumar was called the king of tragedy. But even he couldn't do much to redeem this film. The plot is extraneously slow, often illogical and tests the viewer's patience.

At it's core, it's a pathos love story with tons of songs (Hindi cinema loves songs often to the detriment of the plot itself but barring a few cases like Raj Kapoor's Barsaat(1949), the songs themselves aren't ever worth to substitute the story with) . The acting from the leads is decent though Dilip Kumar shines better in many other films (Deedar, 1951 being an example from the same time position).

This film clearly isn't 'classic' in any sense and hasn't worn down well with time. There isn't much reason to hunt for this film and waste one's time on it.
