In addition, “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” Season 6 will also be dropping on the platform, giving Bravo fans more drama and fun for the fall season.

Between family-friendly features like the “Shrek” movies and...

Netflix’s New Releases Coming in September 2025
Image
The concluding part of season two of Wednesday; the story of Charlie Sheen’s redemption; a clash between the two greatest super middleweights in the world; an A-list crime drama starring Jude Law and Jason Bateman; a lavish period drama from the creator of Peaky Blinders; and the third season of one of the most talked-about Japanese sci-fi shows are among the highlights of the new film and TV projects hitting Netflix in September.

Starting the month off strong is part two of season two of Wednesday, that hits Netflix on Sept. 3. There’s no need to introduce this absolute monster hit for the streamer, as seemingly everyone is watching — the first half of Wednesday season two delivered 50 million views worldwide, the most views for an English-language show’s opening week on the streamer since season one of Wednesday. Part two kicks off with “Hide and Woe Seek,” the 13th...

Adam Sandler on Playing Against Type in Noah Baumbach’s Dramedy ‘Jay Kelly’: ‘Holy S—, I Can’t Believe I’m Getting This Gift’
Image
Adam Sandler, best known for broad comedies like “Happy Gilmore,” “Billy Madison” and “Big Daddy,” relished in the opportunity to take on another dramatic role in Noah Baumbach’s dramedy “Jay Kelly.” In the Hollywood-set film, Sandler plays against type as a serious, straight-shooting manager to spiraling movie star Jay Kelly (George Clooney).

“Being in this movie and not just trying to find jokes and laugh moments, that’s what’s amazing,” Sandler said during the official press conference for “Jay Kelly” at Venice Film Festival. “I’ve done two movies with Noah, and I could not be more proud to be in the feeling it gives you. He knows how to do everything, and then he finds places to make you laugh. All our characters give you a moment to laugh and feel pain. As an actor, when you read a script like this you say, ‘Holy shit, I...

The Naked Gun's Director Is A Comedy Legend With A Tragic Box Office Track Record
Image
(Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)

"There was a couple years, though, where it was not a big punchline, but where if it came up, you had to disavow it." Those are the words of director Akiva Schaffer, one third of the comedy group The Lonely Island, talking about their 2007 comedy "Hot Rod" on "The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast" in 2024. "Even on talk shows, you'd have to, like, really make sure you made fun of it before they did."

Time has been kind to "Hot Rod," with the film achieving cult status over the years. In its day though, the comedy was a flat out flop. Despite Schaffer's success alongside his partners Andy Samberg and Jorma Taccone on "Saturday Night Live," this pattern of flop-turned-cult-classic would...

Adam Sandler’s ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ Debuts to 46.7 Million Views, Biggest Netflix U.S. Film Opening Ever
Image
Happy Gilmore is back on top. Adam Sandler’s long-gestating sequel “Happy Gilmore 2” teed off with big viewership numbers, ranking at No. 1 on the Netflix list of top 10 English-language movies.

“Happy Gilmore 2” launched on the streamer on July 25. For the week of July 21 through 27, the film generated 46.7 million views over three days, with views defined as total hours watched divided by the total runtime. That makes this the biggest U.S. opening weekend of all time for a Netflix film, as well as the best ever for one of Sandler’s movies. He has starred in nearly a dozen original movies for Netflix, including “Murder Mystery,” “Hubie Halloween” and “The Week Of.”

The sequel’s release boosted interest in the original “Happy Gilmore,” which is also available on Netflix. The decades-old comedy ranked at No. 3 on the global top 10 list with 11.4 million views, marking its second consecutive week on the list.

Happy Gilmore 2 Cast Salary Breakdown: How Much Did Adam Sandler and the Others Make?
Image
‘Happy Gilmore 2’ had a reported budget of around $30-40 million, and it looks like the extensive cast was paid handsomely for their contributions to the sequel.

Ofcourse, Adam Sandler is back as the boorish golf player in Kyle Newacheck’s ‘Happy Gilmore 2.’ The last time we saw the character was all the way back in 1996 when the sports comedy ended with Happy defeating Shooter McGavin in the Tour Championship and finally earning the respect he always craved.

Now, nearly three decades later, Sandler is back in ‘Happy Gilmore 2’, but this time with a tragic story that makes him give up on his successful golfing career. While the Og film became somewhat of a cult classic over the years, the sequel is also a great watch if you’re looking for something light-hearted, despite the mixed reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a score of 65%, just two...

Adam Sandler’s Secret Weapon: This ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ Writer Shaped Decades of Comedy and Earned $3 Billion at the Box Office
Image
The release of “Happy Gilmore 2,” the Netflix sequel to the 1996 comedy hit, is just days away. While Hollywood hot shots might be sweating audience awareness polls or gauging social media chatter, Tim Herlihy — who co-wrote both films with star Adam Sandler — has a more pressing concern: catching up with yard work at his quiet Connecticut home.

You might not know Herlihy’s name, but you’ve laughed at his jokes. His movies with Sandler, often featuring characters in various states of arrested development, have topped $3 billion at the box office. Think classics like “Billy Madison” and “The Wedding Singer.” The pair pivoted to streaming in 2015, with Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions signing a megadeal with Netflix that’s led to such films as “The Ridiculous 6” and “Hubie Halloween.”

“Happy Gilmore 2” is poised to be one of summer’s biggest comedies. The first film stars Sandler as a...

Adam Sandler's Debut Is Also One Of IMDb's Lowest-Rated Movies
Image
The cultural narrative around Adam Sandler is that he's a guy whose movies have gradually declined in quality over time, albeit with an out-of-character masterpiece like "Uncut Gems" thrown in there every once in a while to keep us on our toes. Adam Sandler is capable of giving us a riveting, high-effort lead performance, but for the most part he's seemed to see his movies more as opportunities to hang out with his friends on quasi-vacations, less as opportunities to make any kind of high effort art.

But before we point to Sandler flicks like "Jack and Jill" or "That's My Boy" as examples of the decline of Sandler's filmography, it's worth remembering that his first movie was terrible too. Although most people think of the 1995 comedy "Billy Madison" as Sandler's first leading role, his actual first lead role was in 1989's "Going Overboard." There, Sandler plays struggling cruise-boat comedian Shecky Moskowitz,...

Ozzy Osbourne's Funniest Movie Cameo Came In A Forgotten Adam Sandler Flop
Image
"Little Nicky" isn't regarded as one of Adam Sandler's best movies ... though we could say the same about many of his more disreputable flicks. The fantastical comedy was a financial flop upon its release back in the year 2000, despite Sandler riding a wave of momentum following hits like "Billy Madison" and "Big Daddy." What's more, the film gained mostly negative reviews from critics -- which, to be fair, is also part and parcel with Sandler movies. With that being said, "Little Nicky" has its defenders (this writer included), as it's one of the few comedies out there featuring angels, demons, talking dogs, slacker metalheads, and giant birds that hound creepy men. Not only that, but it boasts a memorable cameo from the late Ozzy Osbourne, who helps prevent one of Satan's sons from taking over the world.

Before we dig into the importance of Ozzy's cameo to the plot,...

Adam Sandler on Casting ‘Unbelievably Funny’ Bad Bunny and Travis Kelce in ‘Happy Gilmore 2’ and Chances of a ‘Billy Madison’ Sequel: ‘Let’s Write It Tonight!’
Image
Who would say no to a “Happy Gilmore” cameo? No one, apparently.

“We got everybody!” Adam Sandler joked to Variety at the “Happy Gilmore 2” premiere on Monday night, which boasted an unusually long, 8-page face sheet of talent — from recurring cast members Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald and Kevin Nealon to newcomers Benny Safdie and Bad Bunny. The film also has dozens of bold-faced cameos, including Alix Earle, “Hot Ones” host Sean Evans and several decorated athletes such as Travis Kelce.

Sandler says they wrote a part for Bad Bunny after seeing him as host on “Saturday Night Live” earlier this year. “I saw him and and I couldn’t believe how funny he was,” he said.

After running into each other at a Laker’s game and exchanging pleasantries, Sandler says the pop star’s agent began to continually reach out to find a way to work with the comedian.

Adam Sandler’s Top 10 Movies Ranked: From Silly to Serious
Image
Despite being fired from SNL, Adam Sandler went on to become one of the biggest comedic movie stars of all time. Using his unmatched silliness, Sandler leapt from the small screen and burst onto the big screen with an energy and delivery that movie-going audiences had never seen. But Sandler isn’t anchored in the realm of absurdity, and some of his best performances have come in some incredibly serious dramatic roles.

In honor of Happy Gilmore 2, here are Adam Sandler’s top 10 movies ranked from worst to best.

The 8 Best Adam Sandler Movies
Image
Like it or not, Adam Sandler is among the most successful movie stars of the last three decades and has remarkably been able to make films that have resonated with multiple generations of comedy fans. While many former alumni of “Saturday Night Live” struggled to develop film careers, Sandler developed his own brand of ridiculous comedies, which led to the development of Happy Madison Productions. Despite the scathing reviews that many of his films earned from critics during their initial release windows, several have grown cult fandom from those who grew up with them. Sandler was also ahead of the game when it came to the profitability of streaming, as he was among the first Hollywood stars to sign a deal with Netflix.

Sandler has certainly been known to phone it in, as films like “Grown Ups,” “Little Nicky,” “Blended,” and “Jack and Jill” rank among the worst comedies of the 21st century.

Adam Sandler Learned the Hard Way That Critics Hated His Guts
Image
You would think Adam Sandler would have gotten used to criticism during his tenure at Saturday Night Live. While his man-child comedy alongside Chris Farley and David Spade was popular with his peers, critics were slightly less kind. A New York Magazine hatchet job described SNL during his tenure as “a grim joke,” singling out Sandler for childish behavior and boorish comedy.

For some reason, according to Far Out, Sandler expected better treatment when he began his film career. “Actually, when I made Billy Madison, I remember thinking, ‘It’s going to be fun when it comes out, and they actually write stuff about you and my parents will read it,” he told United Press International. “This is incredible. The last time I was in the paper was when I was in eighth grade and made the honor role.”

Oh, newspaper critics wrote about Billy Madison, all right. But Sandler...

'Summer of 69' Director Explains Title Meaning and Possible Misunderstanding
Image
When you hear the words "summer of 69," what comes to mind? Maybe it's Bryan Adams' classic song from 1984. If not, at least the year might pop into your historical brain, given its monumental nature. Remember when we landed on the moon, hint hint? For the more mature audiences, "69" might illicit an entirely different response, like how Adam Sandler laughed upon hearing a certain page number in Billy Madison (1995). Two decades later, fellow comedian Jillian Bell finds a certain thrill in the number as well, as it represents an infamous sex position, of course. In fact, her new Hulu movie — and feature directorial debut — is literally titled Summer of 69. MovieWeb recently caught up with her to learn more about her high school-centered project, and how she feels about viewers potentially tuning in thinking that the title represents something else entirely.

"I was thinking about that the other day.

David Spade imagines what Chris Farley would be doing now
Image
It’s been over 25 years since the death of Chris Farley, but his presence in comedy remains undeniable. Whether it’s Tommy Boy or his iconic Saturday Night Live sketches that continue to go viral, Farley’s legacy looms large. Now, longtime friend and collaborator David Spade imagines what Farley’s career might have looked like today.

Farley died in 1997 at 33 years old. In the three years prior, his movie credits included Airheads, Billy Madison, Tommy Boy, Black Sheep, and Beverly Hills Ninja. His star was very much still on the rise having left Saturday Night Live in 1995.

David Spade made his name in entertainment alongside Farley at Saturday Night Live and the movies Tommy Boy and Black Sheep. Appearing on Theo Von's podcast, Spade reflected on Farley's career trajectory which was cut tragically short.

“He would have been working with everybody,” Spade said . “I mean even at that point toward the end,...

Happy Gilmore Re-Release Set for April 27 and 30
Image
Universal Pictures has announced the nationwide theatrical re-release of Happy Gilmore, the beloved 1996 sports comedy starring Adam Sandler as a failed hockey player turned golf sensation. Audiences nationwide can experience this comedy classic on the big screen during special screenings on April 27 and April 30.

In Happy Gilmore, Sandler stars as the titular character, an aspiring hockey player with a powerful slapshot who can neither skate nor control his volatile temper. When the Internal Revenue Service repossesses his grandmother’s house, Happy resolves to earn enough money to settle her debts and reclaim her home.

After discovering his golf swing can drive balls an extraordinary 400 feet, Happy quickly becomes an unlikely star on the PGA tour, despite his poor putting skills and frequent explosive outbursts that antagonize his more traditional competitors.

Originally released in February 1996, Happy Gilmore was created on a modest $12 million budget and earned more than $40 million during its initial theatrical run.

Was Chris Farley Almost The Original Voice Of Shrek?
Image
Did Chris Farley almost voice Shrek? (Photo Credit – Wikipedia/Prime Video)

Can you imagine Shrek with Farley’s signature, boisterous energy? The green ogre would’ve been a whole different beast. Instead, we got Mike Myers, who definitely knocked it out of the park, but Farley’s Shrek could have been iconic in its own right.

Farley had already nailed about 80 to 90 percent of his lines before he passed away in 1997. If fate had played out differently, we could have had Farley’s voice leading the charge in the Shrek franchise, possibly even through a sequel (via Cheatsheet). But after his death, DreamWorks had to pivot fast, bringing in Myers to save the day. Farley’s Tommy Boy banter with Spade inspired Shrek and Donkey’s vibe – loud, goofy, and totally Farley-style fun.

But after the actor’s passing, DreamWorks rewrote the character to be a bit grumpier and more seasoned.

Why Adam Sandler Was Fired From SNL
Image
Throughout its 50-year run, "Saturday Night Live" has been the launching pad for some of history's most beloved comedic actors and actresses. Fans often debate which decade of "SNL" was the best, but an argument can be made that the 1990s featured some of the funniest sketches in the show's history, introducing audiences to up-and-comers who would go on to become some of the biggest names in comedy to this day. One of those young stars was none other than Adam Sandler.

After making his film debut in 1989, Adam Sandler performed stand-up comedy in clubs. At one of his performances in Los Angeles, "SNL" cast member Dennis Miller was in attendance. Impressed by Sandler's material, Miller recommended him to Lorne Michaels, which led to Sandler landing a job in the "SNL" writers' room in 1990 and eventually being promoted to featured player in the cast. Alongside his co-stars Chris Farley, Tim Meadows,...

These Adam Sandler Movies All Have the Same Easter Egg
Image
Adam Sandler is one of his generation's most iconic comedy actors. His early works, Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, The Waterboy, The Wedding Singer, etc., are among the most well-known and acclaimed. While later movies have seen a more "mixed" critical reception, Sandler has no doubt made his mark. But what if there was a secret Easter egg in several of his movies? And what if that Easter egg was hidden in plain sight?

In several Sandman pictures, his female love interest has the initials "Vv." There's Veronica Vaughn, Virginia Venit, Vicki Vallencourt, and more. But not every onscreen partner has these initials, so what's the story with the ones that do? Have we stumbled down some new conspiracy theory rabbit hole? Is "Vv" a secret sign warning of what's to come? Or is it just Sandler being Sandler and making up funny names? In all likelihood, the latter is the case.

15 Best Movies Like Anyone But You
Image
Despite releasing at the end of 2023, one of 2024's biggest sleeper hits at the box office was "Anyone But You," a romantic-comedy starring Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney as former lovers who cross paths at a destination wedding and pretend to be a couple in order to placate their respective families. Given the film's financial success, it shows a potential bright future for the rom-com genre, which in recent years has struggled to have the success it once had throughout the 2000s with hits like "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" and "Knocked Up."

Thanks to "Anyone But You," there are a lot of audiences with a renewed interest in satiating their desire for a raunchy, laugh-out-loud rom-com, especially ones with the hard-to-resist enemies-to-lovers trope, a disastrous wedding, or perhaps a reinterpretation a well-known story in the modern era. We've selected 15 of the best movies like "Anyone But You," including some superb romantic-comedies from recent history,...

Adam Sandler Loved Kidding Around During ‘Billy Madison’
Adam Sandler
Image Source: Universal Pictures Home Entertainment When it came to Adam Sandler’s comedy films in the ’90s, it could certainly be said that Sandler brought a childlike enthusiasm to his roles. By placing Sandler in a story where he had to go back to grammar school, Billy Madison provided the perfect context for Sandler’s talents. It’s hard to believe, then, that the film celebrates its 30th anniversary, so a lot of Sandler’s on-screen classmates are pushing 40! But back when they were filming the movie, Sandler and the kids developed a special kind of relationship. As Sandler told us before the film’s premiere, the set felt like a summer camp, and he would do anything he could to entertain the kids between scenes. ‘Billy Madison’ at 30: Director Tamra Davis Recalls Adam Sandler’s First Starring Role
Image
Don’t tell that nasty penguin, but Billy Madison is turning 30 today. It’s the movie that taught America that peeing your pants is cool, that shampoo and conditioner have been locked in a battle for the ages and that Adam Sandler was going to be one of the funniest movie stars of all time.

While Billy Madison was written by Sandler and his longtime collaborator Tim Herlihy, it was directed by Tamra Davis, who had previously directed Chris Rock’s CB4 and would go on to direct Half Baked.

Joining me for a Zoom call recently to mark the movie’s 30th anniversary, Davis was happy to recall her time working on Billy Madison, including sharing funny stories about Chris Farley stripping, why Sandler was convinced pelting kids with a dodgeball was comedy gold and how she still doesn’t understand what that penguin was doing there.

Another '90s Adam Sandler Movie Is Coming to Hulu Ahead of ‘Happy Gilmore 2’
Image
If you've ever wondered what the "Madison" is in Adam Sandler's production company "Happy Madison" it's from his 1995 movie, Billy Madison. Sandler combined the "Happy" from Happy Gilmore and "Madison" from Billy Madison for the name. Now the movie is coming to Hulu on February 1. The movie, of course, stars Sandler in the titular role in another 90s comedy that is a staple for fans of Sandler's brand of comedy. Sandler is joined by Bradley Whitford, Bridgette Wilson-Sampras, and Josh Mostel, in a concept that likely wouldn't hold up today. The movie, a critical failure, sports a brutal 40% critic's score on Rotten Tomatoes, but seems to hold true as a fan favorite with a 79% audience score thirty years later. The logline for the movie is as follows:...

Adam Sandler's Comedy 'Billy Madison' Streaming on Hulu in February
Image
One of Adam Sandler's most underrated and divisive comedies is finally returning to streaming this February. Sandler's run of comedies from 1995 to 2008 is nothing short of legendary. Within that time, the actor and writer released Happy Gilmore, The Wedding Singer, The Waterboy, Punch-Drunk-Love, 50 First Dates, The Longest Yard, and You Don't Mess with the Zohan (this writer's personal favorite). But, the film that kicked it all off was Billy Madison, and it's finally coming back to streaming.

Billy Madison arrives on Hulu on Feb. 1; it was directed by Tamra Davis, and co-written by Sandler and Tim Herlihy (Happy Gilmore) and is one of Sandler's most underrated comedies. Released in 1995, the film follows 27-year-old Billy Madison (Sandler) who is set to take over his father's hotel empire. However, his father (Darren McGavin) has one demand before he inherits the fortune: for his son to go back and finish school.

1 of Adam Sandler's Funniest Movies Lands a New Streaming Home 30 Years After Its Release
Image
It may only have a 40% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, but Adam Sandler’s 1995 movie, Billy Madison, has become a classic among audiences since it was released 30 years ago. The film boasts a 79% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, and hits Hulu on Feb. 1.

Billy Madison stars Sandler as the titular man-child, Billy Madison, who, to inherit his father’s hotel empire, must repeat first through twelfth grade again. His father, Brian, is played by the late Darren McGavin, of A Christmas Story fame. In the process of going through school again, Billy is hindered by his rival, Eric Gordon, played by Emmy-winner Bradley Whitford (The West Wing).

Although Billy Madison wasn’t a box office hit, grossing just $26.4 million against a budget of $10 million, it is considered to be one of Sandler’s funniest movies and one of the first starring the Saturday Night Live alum. Before Billy Madison, Sandler...

Everything Coming to Hulu and Disney in February 2025
Image
Say goodbye to those New Year greetings and memes, because February is almost here. Time to really sink our teeth into 2025 and how it’ll look, and of course that means beefing up your watchlist. As always the libraries of Hulu and Disney+ (and multiple available bundles) are here to help, with new shows and movies (both family friendly and… a little unfriendly) available to stream.

Along with ongoing episodes of “Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man,” Disney+ will debut all of “Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur” Season 2 and plenty of other great titles for young viewers. “The Lion King at the Hollywood Bowl” special will recapture the magic of a live performance, and “Harlem Ice” follows a girls’ figure skating team through their competitive season.

Hulu will feature ongoing episodes of the new drama “Paradise,” and if you want more White House action there’s Viacom’s “The Oval,...

'Happy Gilmore' Is a Free Streaming Hit Ahead of Sandler's Sequel
Image
Adam Sandler has had one of the most enviable careers in show business since first appearing as Smitty on The Cosby Show in 1987. He has a list of comedy credits a mile long with many hits (and some flops that nonetheless provided him a vacation with his friends), and he's become a respected dramatic actor thanks to films like Punch-Drunk Love and Uncut Gems. On top of that, he's still a beloved stand-up comic who has released material for more than 30 years, including this year's excellent Netflix special, Love You.

However, despite this massive career, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better period than his prolific run of film in the '90s — Airheads (1994), Billy Madison (1995), Happy Gilmore (1996), The Wedding Singer (1998), and The Waterboy (1998), with Little Nicky, Punch-Drunk Love, and Mr. Deeds right around the corner. But it's Happy Gilmore that is often considered his best comedy, and that's the...

Tom Cruise Helped Adam Sandler Get One Of His Best Roles
Image
This probably sounds unthinkable in 2024, but 25 years ago, the notion of Adam Sandler appearing in a film with even the slightest of awards hopes was considered deranged. The "Saturday Night Live" veteran was one of the biggest movie stars in Hollywood, but the movies that brought him to the mountaintop were almost all critically maligned goofs. Aside from the sweet-natured rom-com "The Wedding Singer," Sandler was viewed as a juvenile vulgarian who unrepentantly aimed low. Even though he could procure the services of respected actors like Drew Barrymore, Steve Buscemi, and John Turturro, Sandler's brand of inspired stupidity could not be accepted as worthy of their generation's comedy imbecile Jerry Lewis.

So when word got out in 2001 that Paul Thomas Anderson, one of the most exciting young auteurs working at the turn of the millennium based on the strength of "Boogie Nights" and "Magnolia," announced that he'd cast Adam Sandler...

Adam Sandler Teases Eminem Cameo in ‘Happy Gilmore 2,’ Says the Sequel Is Eyeing a July 2025 Release on Netflix
Image
On the day that “Happy Gilmore 2” wrapped principal photography, Adam Sandler called in to “The Dan Patrick Show” to discuss the comedy sequel, dishing on some cameos for the film and teasing a potential release date for the Netflix production.

“They’re going to yell at me no matter what, because they asked me to not do any press,” Sandler starts at the beginning of the interview. “But what do you want to say and I’ll tell you if it’s good or bad to talk about.”

“Can I talk about Eminem having a cameo?” asked Patrick. The sports media personality also appears as a small role in the film.

“I’ve known Eminem for a long time and he’s a great guy,” Sandler said, confirming the rapper is involved in the film. Eminem was spotted on the New Jersey set back in November. “He came in and was funny as hell.

Surprisingly, Adam Sandler's Only Oscar-Nominated Movie Is This Film With 34% On Rt
Image
Adam Sandler isn’t an actor that the audience associates with the Oscars, and surprisingly, his only Oscar-nominated movie to date is a comedy with 34% on Rotten Tomatoes. Adam Sandler is one of the most popular comedy actors of his generation, as well as one of the most profitable ones, even if many of his movies aren’t critical hits. Sandler’s acting career began on television when he played Smitty in The Cosby Show in 1987, while his film debut arrived in 1989 in the comedy Going Overboard. The following year, Sandler joined the cast of Saturday Night Live.

Sandler’s break arrived in 1995 with the comedy Billy Madison, and since then, he has appeared in a variety of comedies, some more successful than others. However, Sandler has also taken the time to explore other genres in his career, leaning more towards drama in movies like Punch-Drunk Love and Spanglish and...

The 30 Best Movies On Peacock Right Now
Image
There's nothing better than curling up in front of the boob tube on a Friday night with a bucket full of popcorn to watch a classic piece of cinema. Luckily, in this day and age, movies are readily accessible on various streaming platforms. Peacock, in particular, carries a surprising amount of top-notch films to ensure that popcorn doesn't go to waste.

While perusing their streaming library, there were roughly 60 movies on Peacock that I'd happily watch any day, ranging from blockbuster franchises like "Harry Potter" to quirky comedies like "Billy Madison" -- not to mention the endless supply of Hallmark and original movies. Of course, we couldn't include all our favorites, but we've narrowed it down to a Top 30, ranked from great to, well, greater. I wholeheartedly recommend every single movie on this list.

While some are ranked higher than others, we'd gladly kick back and watch any of these...

With Indie Comedy ‘Let’s Start a Cult,’ Stavros Halkias Is Ready for His Movie Star Moment
Image
In an age where raunchy, ridiculous comedies are getting harder and harder to come by, stand-up comic and podcaster Stavros Halkias is willing to do whatever he has to become the next Will Ferrell, Danny McBride, or Chris Farley. For years, his crowd work was a staple of TikTok, endearing audiences with his crude, blunt sense of observational humor that extends to his involvement in the former podcast “Cum Town,” as well as his current show, “Stavvy’s World.” Now trying to both leverage and expand on this fan base he’s spent years cultivating, Halkias has placed another bet on himself by co-writing and starring in the indie screwball comedy “Let’s Start a Cult.”

The film was conceived alongside co-star Wes Haney and director Ben Kitnick, who brought the idea to Halkias, then later developed the script as well as a short version with him prior to the making of the feature.

Netflix Is Breathing New Life Into One Of Adam Sandler's Worst Movies
Image
Did you forget about Adam Sandler's 2015 movie "Pixels?" If you did, that makes sense; it was a critical flop that ended up scoring a Razzie nomination (though it at least performed solidly at the box office). Now, according to FlixPatrol, "Pixels" is gaining traction on Netflix, having claimed the number three spot in the streamer's daily top 10 most-streamed movies as of October 14, 2024.

Why "Pixels" is performing well on Netflix's is, frankly, anybody's guess; perhaps affection for the Sandman runs deeper than I realize. In any case, the movie is performing solidly on the streamer, which is also probably news to Sandler's co-stars Kevin James, Josh Gad, Michelle Monaghan, and ... Emmy winners and HBO stalwarts Peter Dinklage and Brian Cox. The movie also has a pretty solid creative team, with Chris Columbus — of "Home Alone" and the first two "Harry Potter" movies — directing and Tim Herlihy co-writing with Timothy Dowling.

I Rewatched Billy Madison, And There's Still A Lot To Love (Despite All The Ways It Ended Badly)
Image
Billy Madison is a classic Adam Sandler comedy and despite some parts of it not aging the best, the film still stands up against most modern comedies. Generally ranked among the highest-rated Adam Sandler movies, Billy Madison is possibly one of the first of his films I remember watching. The viewing probably took place in a friend's basement, with my parents unaware because, as some more recent fans of Sandler may not know, his comedies used to be much more raunchy and adult than his recent crop of family-targeted movies would suggest.

The movie stars Sandler as the titular Billy Madison, a spoiled man-child who, rather than preparing to take over his father's company, spends his days drinking and carousing with his friends. However, it's revealed Billy never finished grade school or high school and is sent back to the classroom to get his diplomas. It's a wacky premise, and thanks to Sandler's hilarious commitment,...

Billy Madison is heading back to school in a new 4K transfer from Kino Lorber
Image
A few days ago, it was announced that Happy Gilmore would be getting a new 4K Blu-ray release from the Kino Lorber video label. The ultra-high-definition transfer of the Adam Sandler comedy is due to hit retailers sometime early next year, presumably to coincide with the release of the Netflix sequel. It has now been announced, per Blu-ray.com, that Sandler’s previous breakout film, Billy Madison, will also be getting a 4K release from Kino Lorber that is scheduled to become available to consumers also early next year.

Billy Madison stars Adam Sandler, Darren McGavin, Bridgette Wilson-Sampras, Bradley Whitford, and Josh Mostel. The description reads, “Man-child Billy Madison has been a spoiled rich kid all his life, and spends his days drinking and partying. When his father, hotel magnate Brian, becomes fed up with his son’s irresponsible ways, he issues an ultimatum. Since Billy passed all his schooling...

Chris Hemsworth & Drew Barrymore Recall Being Too Nervous to Introduce Themselves to Each Other
Image
During a recent visit to the Drew Barrymore Show, Chris Hemsworth and Barrymore reminisced about a time about 10 years ago the two of them were both too shy to introduce themselves while at a hair salon. Entertainment Weekly recently reported on the interaction, which the pair thought was hilarious.

Was this about 10 years ago? Hemsworth asked the host. Was it at a hair salon? Barrymore said back to the Thor actor. Hemsworth laughed and shouted, Yes! This prompted Barrymore to collapse on her couch and cover her face. This is hilarious, Hemsworth said, adding he was at the salon getting his hair tipped or colored for a movie.

Adam Sandler movies: 17 greatest films ranked worst to best
Image
Like many popular comedic actors of the day, Adam Sandler got his start on “Saturday Night Live” first as a writer and then as a cast member. He was spotted by weekend update anchor Dennis Miller doing stand-up comedy and Miller recommended him for the show. Sandler was a big success on the show, particularly doing song parodies during the Weekend Update segments. Sandler left the show in 1995 after only five years on the program. Years later when Conan O’Brien was having his own problems with NBC, Sandler admitted to O’Brien that he was actually fired from “SNL” and didn’t leave voluntarily as had been assumed.

Sandler started off doing comedy films after that but has evolved into doing dramatic work at times. While he has a pretty strong track record as a box office draw, he has also often been the target of poor reviews from critics...
