Could have been better

The movie is about a man (Thierry Lhermitte) who finds out that he's got a kid living with his mother in a tribe somewhere in Africa. Lhermitte gets there and bring his son back to Paris for a visit. From there, a series of «loufoque» situations arise.

The movie is sometime funny, sometime dull. Lhermitte is good as usual. I wouldn't want to watch it again, I think.

The original is always better.

I have watched this film over and over again, it makes my whole family laugh everytime. You have to know something of the way the Parisians live and be able to understand French pretty well to 'get' most of the jokes. The Americans tried to make a copy - Jungle to Jungle' and like so many other copies of French films it was terrible.

Learn French - watch this movie - Laugh loudly.

What is Up With This Movie?

What is up with this movie? It's awful. Why of all the foreign language films, did THIS one get a major U.S. release? Why did they remake it (Jungle 2 Jungle)? Did they think that making it in english would make it better? Roger Ebert gave it his rare Zero Stars, and, I can assure you, it deserves every star it didn't get. 1/10

Is this funny?

This movie is supposed to be funny, but I didn´t laugh once. The story is about a man who´s getting a divorce so that he can finally marry he´s girlfriend.He learns that he´s ex wife now lives in South america and decides to go there to get those divorce papers.There he learns that he has a son who grew up with the indians and now asks his father to bring him to Paris where the father lives. The story could have been funny in a way,but it isn`t.The son is climbing the Eiffel tower and the father pays more attention to his work and his strange wife-to-be is just interested in her New-age guru.This is NOT a comedy.Don´t waste your money.Spend them on a Paul Hogan movie instead!

I liked it

Gee, I guess I should be embarrassed, but I liked this movie. It's sort of an ultra-lightweight comic version of François Truffaut's "Wild Child"...the adults are appropriately silly, the boy is a charmer, the girl is cute, the climb of the Eiffel Tower is pretty spectacular and the movie ends well for everyone. The Russian bad-guys and some of the treatment of animals (birds!) make the movie a little heavy for young kids, but overall the film is far more effective than the Disney remake, where the boy is too old and the adults don't really make much sense, even for a comedy.

The film was released in the U.S. with English dubbing because Disney wanted to buy the rights from Thierry Lhermitte so they could make the Americanized remake of this film Jungle 2 Jungle (1997). Lhermitte only agreed for the remake to be green-lighted on the condition that the original French version be released with the English dubbing as he wanted to gain recognition with American audiences. The film was released with English dubbing and many called it one of the worst movies ever made including Roger Ebert, additionally the film flopped in the U.S. Nevertheless, Disney proceeded with making Jungle 2 Jungle (1997), and Lhermitte served as executive producer on the Americanized remake.
