A gay and off-the-wall Spanish comedy with entertainment and diversion enough

Almodovar's style comedy starred by Spanish-star-cast with plenty of absurd humour and disconcerting situations . Offbeat crazy comedy with hilarious results but pretty embarrassing . Two fine directors , Dunia Ayaso, Félix Sabroso , bring us a special whodunit , resulting in a very mixed bag of eccentric roles on a life-threatening situation , they're residing at a flat that's inhabited by three sympathetic gays : Toni (Jordi Mollà) , Dani (Roberto Correcher) and Carlos (Pepón Nieto) , where has happened a grisly murder . A hunky and sex-crazed stud , Lucas (Alonso Caparrós) is the last to come to live at the noisy apartment . Their twisted incidents and defenselessness in the face of danger provokes a general craziness . When it appears a man murdered his roommates result to be the prime suspects. Things go wrong when two unusual police inspectors (Lucina Gil, María Pujalte) showing up to investigate the astonishing criminal case . Who's the killer ?

Silly film full of bad taste , outlandish characters , embarrassing mood-pieces , fun scenes , filthy humor , burlesque and sense of style but not totally satisfactory , including conventional pitfalls . The picture deals with three outrageous gay people sharing an apartment and along the way , happening absurdities , mad events , funny messes and many other things . However , being an extremey stagy and claustrophobic pic due to everything takes place inside an apartment or at a song club . There are many references to Pedro Almodóvar's universe throughout the sui generis characters and nutty occurences in the movie . The flick is passable but turns out to be very inferior to Almodovar films . The result is undiluted embarrasing comedy with a lot of profanities, references to homosexual sex and convoluted strings of plots . It's a piquant look at Madrid life by involving some gay friends played by three good actors but overacting their mannerism or affectation , and along with two peculiar police inspectors . Nice interpretations by all star-studded main and support cast and full of familiar faces as Maria Pujalte performing a disconcerting police inspector and other delightfully played roles , such as : Esperanza Roy ,Alonso Caparrós , Gracia Olayo , Ferran Rañé , Carmen Balagué , Malena Gutiérrez and Antonia San Juan's film debut , Mariola Fuentes's second movie , among others .

It contains attractive musical score by composer Manuel Villalta including catching songs , such as : Corazón contento Written by Palito Ortega Performed by Gema Corredera ; It's a Lonely Town written by Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman ; Ma che fredo fa ; House of Devotion performed by The Frogmen and Voy a perder la cabeza por tu amor written by Manuel Alejandro and Ana Magdalena . Furthermore , colorful and luminous cinematography by cameraman Catinari , though mostly shot in interior .

The motion picture was professionally written and directed by Dunia Ayaso and Félix Sabroso and being realized in their peculiar style . This couple of directors were competent experts on amusing comedies . They collaborated in various films until recent death of Dunia Ayaso . They made some attractive comedies ¨El grito en el cielo¨, ¨! Descongelate !¨ , ¨Perdona bonita, pero Lucas me quería a mí¨ , ¨Los Años Desnudos¨, ¨Fea¨ , ¨El tiempo de los monstruos¨ and ¨Isla interior¨(2009) in this one their sixth film they made a pure drama, although they had hinted at this change with their previous film ¨Los Años Desnudos¨. They won several prizes and nominations , such as : Iberoamerican Short Film Competition 2010 Winner "La Navaja de Buñuel" Award : Dunia Ayaso , Félix Sabroso . They won some prizes , such as : Nantes Spanish Film Festival 2010 Winner Jules Verne : Award Dunia Ayaso , Félix Sabroso , Valladolid International Film Festival 2009 Winner , Golden Spike Best Film Félix Sabroso , Dunia Ayaso. ¨Perdona bonita, pero Lucas me quería a mí¨(1996) rating : 6/10 . Passable and acceptable , but only for Spanish cinema enthusiasts.

    The three roommates and Lucas

The premise behind this light comedy from Spain is how three gay men that are living together can bring a fourth one to help them with the rent. Their landlady is threatening with eviction because they don't pay, so they need someone immediately to help them solve their predicament. Only, they are too choosy in who they will let into their apartment.

The interview process is hilarious, but it's obvious only Lucas, the hunky stud that is the last to come to talk to the trio, is going to be the one selected. The comedy switches gears about half way through when the three roommates realize something must have happened to Lucas, who has failed to show up at a club where he is expected. Nothing prepare us, or the this trio for the sight they are going to encounter when they open the door! In flashbacks we get to know the truth and how Toni, Carlos and Dani, the original roommates and their female friends all have something to do with the fate Lucas encounters.

Dunia Ayuso and Felix Sabroso are credited with the direction of this comedy from Spain. Under more experienced hands, this film could have been much better since most of the possibilities are wasted. Jordi Molla, Pepon Nieto, and Roberto Correcher play the three friends. Alonso Caparros is seen as Lucas.

High Camp and Silly 'Murder Mystery' from Spain

PERDONA BONITA, PERO LUCAS ME QUERIA A MI (roughly translated means ' Pardon me Duckie, but Lucas loves Me!) is a piece of fluff from Spain that is so over the top that it is almost Daliesque. Were it not for a fairly strong cast this little film could be mistaken for a low budget TV series type project.

Toni (Jordi Mollà), Dani (Roberto Correcher) and Carlos (Pepón Nieto) are three gays living together in a flat and find their rent is so past due that they are to be evicted unless they come up with some fast cash. Their flat has an extra room, they advertise for a tenant, interview an endless group of hilarious misfits and finally settle on the hunky Lucas (Alonso Caparrós) with whom all three fall in love! The scene flashes forward three months and when Lucas doesn't show up at the apartment the three begin to confess that each is enamored with and seeing Lucas secretly. When Lucas cannot be found at the usual designated meeting places the three return to their flat to find Lucas murdered in his bed! The police are called, the policewomen are bizarre beyond words and it is discovered that Lucas is the missing lover of one of the two women. In a very high camp setting each of the three roommates 'confesses' his own dalliance with the dead Lucas (this is done with flashbacks that paint Lucas in the imagined delusional image of each), various 'witnesses' contribute their views, and finally when the murder cannot be solved the entire group disposes of the corpse in an odd manner and the way in which the story ends is hilarious.

Some may be offended by the stereotypes that represent every character, but since each of the characters is campy and ludicrous no one type is damaged intentionally. The clichés are broad and the humor is pushed to extremes, but the little film bounces merrily along as the bit of fluff it is. The actors truly make it better than the writers/directors Dunia Ayaso and Félix Sabroso material. Grady Harp

    A Morbid, Campy Riot!

This film can best be summed up as a gay Spanish version of the recent American black comedy DROWNING MONA, with hunky Lucas filling in for Mona (as suggested by the title). It's a funny, campy whodunnit featuring an outrageous cast of characters. Look out for Antonia San Juan (now famous as Agrado in ALL ABOUT MY MOTHER) in a small role, as an eccentric woman looking for a flat. The situations that arise, though mostly cliches, are nonetheless funny.
