Why Does Family Guy's Stewie Have A British Accent?
Image
There's a lot wrong with Stewie Griffin from "Family Guy." Why is he evil? Why is his head shaped like a football? Why can he and the dog talk? And even accepting that Stewie can talk, why is he talking like that?

Stewie Griffin talks in a sort of upper-class English accent, which is weird because the rest of the Griffins (especially his parents) talk with distinct Rhode Island accents. Even Brian, who's speaking skill origins are similarly unexplored throughout the series, still talks in a standard American accent you'd expect from someone who grew up in America. Why is the dog's voice more normal than the baby's? And while we're asking questions, can someone in Quahog do something about that pedophile who lives down the street?

In a 2010 interview, MacFarlane explained how he thought up Stewie's voice. Turns out, he was reading about the production of one of his favorite movies,...

Sandra Bullock Is Embarrassed By A Big-Budget Critical Flop
Image
Sandra Bullock's name above the title has meant mega-bucks for movie studios over the last 37 years. Combined, her movies have grossed billions of dollars at the global box office, making her one of the most bankable stars of her generation. She's done it by mostly exhibiting good taste in material and, of course, being her irresistibly bubbly self. Everyone, it seems, loves Sandy.

Bullock has a lot to be proud of (most notably the Best Actress Oscar she won for 2009's "The Blind Side"), but when it comes to her bombs, she'll be the first to tell you how lousy they are. She's earned the right to dish on disappointments like "All About Steve," "Two If By Sea" and, dear god, George Sluizer's Hollywoodized remake of his masterful Dutch thriller "The Vanishing." Hang around long enough in the film industry, and you're bound to appear in a stinker or two.

Sarah Drew Inks Two-Picture Deal With Lifetime; Will Headline Holiday Films For It’s A Wonderful Lifetime Slate
Image
Exclusive: Grey’s Anatomy alumna Sarah Drew, who starred in two of Lifetime’s highest-rated holiday movies, is returning to the A&e Networks cable channel with a two-picture deal. Under the pact, Drew will star in, write and executive produce holiday films for the network’s annual It’s a Wonderful Lifetime movie slate. One of the films currently in development, Reindeer Games, is an original script written by Drew. Additionally, Drew will star in the newly greenlight original movie, Stolen Hearts: The Lizbeth Meredith Story (working title).

Reindeer Games follows a fading Hollywood star who returns to his small tight knit hometown post breakup. He’s begrudgingly roped into the town’s holiday fundraising tradition, “The Reindeer Games,” but when he surprisingly falls for (and is competing against) a former classmate he ignored in high school who’s determined to beat him at all costs, he must win the...

First Oprah Book Club Author Jacquelyn Mitchard Reveals How She Lost Everything After Selling Millions
Michelle Pfeiffer and Michael McElroy in In fondo al cuore (1999)
Do you remember Jacquelyn Mitchard, the first author selected for Oprah's Book Club? Her debut novel, The Deep End of the Ocean, was published in June 1996, and Oprah-endorsed in September of that year, which helped it rocket to the top of the New York Times best-seller list. But it wasn't all smooth sailing for Mitchard from there: 13 years after the success of The Deep End of the Ocean, Mitchard received a nightmarish phone call: All of her bank accounts - including funds set aside for her children's college education, were empty. In the Heart of the Sea | Review
Two if by Sea: Howard’s Whaling Expedition Sinks to the Fathoms

Herman Melville’s 1851 novel Moby-Dick is one of the seminal epics of American literature, adapted several times for film and television over the decades, though John Huston’s 1956 film version still stands as the most accomplished cinematic rendering. Director Ron Howard adapts Nathaniel Philbrick’s 2000 novel In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex, a retelling of the aquatic ordeal upon which Melville based his famous text. Suffering from some obnoxious moments of stilted bids at heroic nobility from its central characters and weighted down with considerable cliché, the screenplay, adapted by Charles Leavitt, Rick Jaffa, and Amanda Silver, is a framed narrative that doesn’t seem to have sparked the passion of its adapters. Saddled with a PG-13 rating, which hampers the narrative’s more sensational elements, (such as the depiction...

Sandra Bullock Had An Historically Bad Weekend
Sandra Bullock is still well known as one of America’s sweetheart’s of acting. After a string of not-so-great movies interspersed with some solid money makers, she bounced back big time with The Blind Side in 2009, won an Oscar, and has continued to rack up critical and financial successes since. Now, though, her career has hit a bit of a stumbling block -- temporarily. As reported by Yahoo Movies, Our Brand is Crisis just opened in 2,202 theaters, and only made $3.4 million at the box office. making it the lowest wide opening of the actress's career. Granted, the weekend was filled with Oscar bait flops like Burnt and Truth, but those movies didn’t enjoy nearly as much of a promotional push as Our Brand is Crisis. Sandra Bullock’s previous box office bomb opening was Two If by Sea, a little film that ...

'Spectre' Huge Overseas as 'Martian' Tops Worst Weekend of 2015
Bradley Cooper in Il sapore del successo (2015)
For the third weekend in a row the conversation concerns new films failing to meet expectations, though this Halloween weekend in particular is even more dire. With newcomers Burnt and Our Brand is Crisis falling well below even the most pessimistic of predictions, this was the worst weekend of 2015 yet with the top twelve tallying an estimated $62 million. That's $3.8 million below the first weekend in September when War Room topped the box office in its second weekend in release with only $9.4 million. However, in more positive news, Sony reports Spectre is breaking records left and right as it hits theaters overseas. Let's get to it... Beginning with the domestic box office, Fox has a bonafide hit on their hands as The Martian finished #1 for the second weekend in a row and the fourth weekend out of the five it has been in theaters. Dropping only 27.5%, adding another $11.4 million to its total,...

R.I.P. Andrew Lesnie
Beloved cinematographer Andrew Lesnie has died suddenly from a suspected heart attack at age 59.

Just as much as Peter Jackson, Lesnie was the man responsible for the look of "the Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" films, having worked as director of photography on all six movies in the two trilogies.

Leslie served as Dp on over forty films and series including "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," 2005's "King Kong," "I Am Legend," "The Lovely Bones," both "Babe" films, "The Last Airbender," "The Delinquents," "Spider & Rode," "Two if by Sea," "Doing Time for Patsy Cline," "Bran Nue Dae".

His most recent and now final film was Russell Crowe's "The Water Diviner" which is currently in cinemas in the United States.

The Good, The Bad & Gravity: Sandra Bullock’s Movies Ranked
Sandra Bullock has had a varied and extended career filled with several highs. Most recently, she took 2013 by storm with her powerful, Oscar-nominated performance in Gravity. However, her career has also been litered with several lows, including her Razzie-winning role in All About Steve and those needless sequels to Miss Congeniality and Speed. Here at VH1, we took it upon ourselves to go back and re-watch, review and rank her 30+ films. That’s right everything from Forces of Nature to Two Weeks Notice finds its place among Bullock’s best films listed from worst to best.

31. Speed 2: Cruise Control

It’s like Speed but on a boat and minus Keanu Reeves. Here’s the thing: no one really asked for it. The idea may have sounded great but honestly, it was, like, maybe don’t.

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 3%

Details on Rage Dlc "The Scorchers" Leaked by PS3 Trophies
By Joseph Leray

PlayStation 3 Trophy information has outed a new downloadable campaign for Rage, id Software's post-apocalyptic shooter from last year.

A campaign called "The Scorchers" will feature a new difficulty and a new job path to play through, as well as two new minigames, called "Roly Poly" and "Video Poker," judging by the descriptions of the ten PS3 trophies. "The Scorchers" seems like it could be a substantial bit of work, introducing five new areas and new combat options, including a railgun and rebar ammo.

Given that this campaign hasn't been formally announced, there aren't any story details to share, but The Scorchers were a faction in Rage that, for whatever reason, never made it into the final game.

The new trophy information on "The Scorchers" corresponds with a Pegi listing from earlier this year that suggests the Dlc will be available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Hawk-eyed fans...

Review: 'Hitman: Absolution' - Killing Them Softly (And Loudly, And Brutally)
Here's something funny: "Hitman: Absolution" really snuck up on me in terms of how much I enjoyed it. I like stealth games to a point, particularly the kinds of tightly-scripted, super conditional stealth games requiring almost a neurotic level of observation of enemy behavior and a constant sense of panic that you will mess up and have to restart. But developer Io Interactive has used the time since 2006's "Blood Money" to create hooks that reward the obsessive gamer, while making systemic changes that give your stealthy assassin Agent 47 more tools in dealing with his targets and NPCs.

In spite of some minor quirks, and a pretty slim story that starts to lose its tone along the way, Io's return to the bald assassin is still a pretty terrific game.

The game opens with Agent 47 pursuing an unexpected target: his former handler, Diana, who's accused of making off with a...

Review: 'Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Wii U Edition' - No Tko Here
You can't play "Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Wii U Edition" with a GamePad. I mean, you can but you really wouldn't want to.

Two months after Namco Bandai's very good fighter made its way to the PS3 and Xbox 360, we've got an even more feature-rich of the game on the Wii U. And while "TTT2 Wii U" is more or less the same game you might have been playing back in September, it's not one that fighting fans can readily play with the Wii U base hardware, it's not a game without some performance issues, and it's simply not the optimal way to play "Tekken Tag Tournament 2."

Every feature from the 360 and PS3 release appears to have made its way over to the Wii U--Arcade mode, Fight Lab, online multiplayer, and character customization are here on the Wii U with the addition of some cool second screen support should you find yourself using the GamePad.

Assassin’s Creed III Achievements Leaked
An unconfirmed Achievement list for Assassin’s Creed III has been leaked online, revealing a little bit about the game’s plot and some new features.

Assuming the list is accurate, the leaked Assassin’s Creed III Achievements do contain a few spoilers for the upcoming game. Consider this fair warning.

The best news is that the game’s multiplayer Achievements make up only 80G (spread out over five Achievements) of the total 1000G. Reaching level 20 and unlocking one hacked Astergo video seem to be the two that will be the most time-consuming, so those who prefer single-player won’t be missing much.

As for Assassin’s Creed III‘s single-player Achievements, it appears that you will visit a stadium and skyscraper during the modern-day portions of the game, before traveling to the Abstergo laboratory. Exactly what happens at all three locations is not known, however, at some point you...

Non-traditional markets have been neglected
According to the founders of the upcoming Australian Film Festival in India, Australia is yet to benefit from a relationship with non-traditional markets such as India, the Middle East and Latin America.

“I believe Australia is yet to properly benefit from its relationship with the world’s biggest film industry –India – and other non-traditional markest. This was the fundamental principle behind an Australian Film Initiative and it has been most encouraging to see the Australian Film Festival in India receive support from Australian government and industry alike within hours and days of the announcement. I hope this initiative grows in the coming years providing loads of commercial and creative benefit to our film industry in Australia,” said festival co-director Anupam Sharma.

The festival will feature an industry element, with invitation-only roundtables on investment and distribution and industry speakers at various sessions. It’s been conceived as a “much needed platform...

The Top 9 Tron-Inspired Parodies
Who would have thought back in 1982 that “Tron” would be bigger than ever 28 years later? Certainly no one at Walt Disney Studios, as the film was considered a critical and commercial disappointment.

Steven Lisberger, the director of the film that started it all, has theorized, “It took 28 years because we needed the 10-year-olds (who enjoyed the original) to grow up and take their 10-year-olds to see it.” And those 10-year-olds did just that, growing up to get jobs as writers of widely popular TV shows, comedians, pro skaters and advertising reps.

So, without further ado, let’s jump into The Grid and see where their inspiration led…

9. ‘The Simpsons’ (1995)

The year was 1995 and “The Simpsons’” annual Halloween special got folks talkin’ some “Tron” 13 years after its release. Inspired by “The Twilight Zone” episode “Little Girl Lost,” the segment not only treated us to our first look at CGI Homer, but...

The Twilight Saga: New Moon a "Surprise" Winner at MTV Movie Awards / New Eclipse Footage
Who would have thought after sweeping last year's MTV Movie Awards that Twilight could come back and make it two years in a row? But that's exactly what the saga of sparkling vampires and underwearwolves did last night with the sequel New Moon picking up every top honor and winning in every single category for it was nominated. And with two (or maybe three) more Twilight films to come, the franchise appears poised to become the 1972 Miami Dolphins of the MTV Movie Awards.

Not even the $2 billion worldwide box office of Avatar could stop the Twilight juggernaut as New Moon took the top prize of "Best Movie". Taylor Lautner's impeccable abs proved no match for Robert Pattinson's impenetrable eyebrows as Pattinson walked away with the "Best Actor" award for the 1/4th of New Moon he actually appeared in. A most likely stoned out of her mind Kristen Stewart...

Sources tell TMZ Lindsay has booked a flight that will take her back to L.A. tomorrow, but who knows if she'll actually board.  We're told Lindsay is asking around for a private jet to ferry her home.  So far, no one is biting.

Lindsay is scheduled to be in court on Monday at 8:30 Am -- but we're filing that under "Believe it when we see it."
