Great family drama tv series. Had animals, 8 adopted kids & a housekeeper from Texas. Creator Pam Long had real taste to write James Marsden's character to have musical talent. James Marsden would play the guitar & sing regularly. Thought it was cute when he would sing that "Baby Child" lullaby to Gemini Barnett!
This was a brilliant tv show. All the episodes were truly interesting. The family felt real, some good issues were talked about. A large one was Teen Parent hood, even though The Parents adopted Ben, you still saw Ricky struggling to do what was right for his son. I think this show could have gone several years why it was canceled with out them trying to promote the show more. I think it would have ended up among family shows like the Walton's, Growing Pains and even the still running 7th heaven.
I think a lot of 7th heaven fans would have watched this show as well, they were simlar both had a lot of kids, and was about a family when all the dust is settled at the end. Obvisouly the large difference was that all of the kids the Becketts had were all adopted, excluding the child they would have had if the show had not been canceled. Of Course all the animals also made it exciting.
I wish they'd at least bring the 2 season out of DVD. However its fantastic that some of the cast have gone on to do bigger and better Project the biggest probably being James Marsden .

This show died of one thing. Terminal cuteness. As saccharine as they come. it was a combination of peaceable kingdom and the brady bunch. White parents adopt a CUTE CUTE CUTE CUTE bunch of multi-racial kids. They all lived on a farm with a lot of odd wildlife. By the end of the one episode i watched every one was danceing and singing "Put a little love in your heart" this one should not have got off the drawing board.
I loved this show when it was on the air. I was really upset when it was canceled. I don't understand why reality television has replaced good, quality shows like this one. I agree that there should have been more done to promote this...or at least try it out on a different time slot. I have some of the episodes on video still and I thought it was an excellent idea for a TV show. Unfortunately, the more whitebread version "Seventh Heaven" ended up surviving. Oh well. This helped to launch James Marsden's career, that's for sure. There was a little girl in this show from my hometown. This was one of those gems that should have got an audience but never did. Bring it out on DVD. Fat chance. But worth a try.
For anyone who remembers, Second Noah aired the same year as another popular, still running, family-oriented series with a big family... But unlike that show, Second Noah was edgier. Maybe TOO edgy for the year it aired??? The oldest son (heart-throb James Marsden) was actually the father to the youngest (adorable Gemini Barnett also from The Wedding Singer), was wanting to drop out of school, and dated the proverbial bad-girl. And the rest of the adopted siblings had their own issues. Wanting to know their biological parents, feeling out of place... etc. While such a ethnically diverse family is uncommon, their issues weren't. Viewers just happened to be drawn to the sugar coated, bubblegum version of a rival show. Not to mention, being shot on location instead of on set provided some beautiful footage that made for a Real, warm, loving, homey feel.

- QuizAside from low ratings, network politics was widely believed to be behind the show's cancellation. ABC had recently been bought by Disney, who at the time were planning to open their Animal Kingdom theme park. The show's extensive connections to Busch Gardens was viewed as too great a conflict of interest for Disney.
