I loved "Hangin' with Mr. Cooper." I would watch it every chance I got. Mark Curry was an absolute riot as Mark Cooper the high school basketball coach who lived a gorgeous woman. His roommate was Vanessa Russell (Holly Robinson Peete) who he was always trying to get at.
Later the show added Geneval Lee (Sandra Quarterman) and her daughter Nicole (Raven Symone) which only enhanced the show. Raven was fresh off of "The Cosby Show" and still young and cute.
But the show was mainly Mark Curry. In fact, I just saw him last year doing stand-up in S. F. He was still hilarious and what made him better was his harkening back to his youth in Oakland which always resonates with local audiences.

I don't remember a lot of this sitcom, but it was nice. A teacher with students under his wing. They went through their trials and tribulations as expected of all teenagers in their high school years. I remember one of the best lines being, "I'll rain on you like a Georgia thunder-storm!" That was priceless! This and Fresh Prince of Bel Air are among my favorite African-American sitcoms. Now if only I could find some reruns on a local channel ....
"Hangin' with Mr. Cooper" was a pretty good sit-com. Mark Curry is an above average comedian and he had very good co-stars, including Holly Robinson Peete and the boy who played the neighbor. I laughed quite a lot when watching and was sorry to see the show cancelled.
I used to watch this show when I was growing up. Although I don't remember much about it, I must say that it was a pretty good show. Also, I don't think I've seen every episode. However, if you ask me, it was still a good show. However, I remember the theme song very well. Everyone was ideally cast, the costume design was great. The performances were top-grade, too. I just hope some network brings this series back one day so that I'll be able to see every episode. Before I wrap this up, I'd like to say that I'll always remember this show in my memory forever, even though I don't think I've seen every episode. Now, in conclusion, when and if this show is ever brought back on the air, I hope that you catch it one day before it goes off the air for good.
Ok, so that may be a bit much. Nevertheless, it was a solid comedy that fit perfect into that TGIF-based Friday network programming.
Except it didn't rely on a quirky family set-up or a set of twins playing one person.
Instead it had a hilarious Mark Curry at the center of a hilarious show. His job and everything about him fit.
The side characters were all great, except when Raven Symone was nearly written into nearly as important as a character.
Vanessa was always the perfect babe. Geneva was annoying, but always at the right levels. PJ was the perfect principal to mock. And Omar Gooding, who excelled in Playmakers, was the perfect Ervin.
Frankly, I still miss the show.
And as for that Tyler kid, hilarious as always.
Come back Mark Curry. Celebrity Mole isn't enough!

- QuizIn the episode where Mark Cooper plays basketball for the Golden State Warriors, the practice scenes were taped at the Warriors' home court in Oakland, California, but the game itself was recorded at the University of California's gymnasium in Berkeley. It was an actual a preseason game against the Phoenix Suns, held in Berkeley because Kevin Johnson, an alumnus of UC Berkeley who was playing for Phoenix at the time, was having his college number retired that night. The scenes of Mark Curry playing were not specially scripted. Curry did, in fact, actually play in that specific game.
