When I first saw this on cable 10 years ago I wanted to know how I could buy it for my collection. Now in 2006 is it available on DVD! (Also see "Woof Again!") It's from a British TV show and TV movie in the late 80s/early 90s. The story is very simple and wholesome. It's about a preteen ("tween") boy named Eric who turns into a dog and has to figure out why and how it happens, and also how to stop doing it or at least control when it happens. No one would believe his story except his best friend. He gets into challenging situations at the oddest times and he doesn't know how to change back to a boy again. Best of all, I like it because there's no Disney/Warner Bros fluff, no deviant or outlandish behavior, no violence or mature themes, and no unbelievable story plots. Why can't more kid videos be like this?!
Eric Banks has a new problem. Whenever his nose starts itching, it is a signal that he is about to turn into a dog! His parents turn him out the first time they see him, not realizing that the darling black and white spotted dog is their son. As a dog, Eric has special abilities, however. He can write his name in the sand, press a doorbell or a street signal, and more. This drives a local lady crazy, for she tells her husband about the dog's unusual skills, only to a reaction of disbelief. Eric does confide in a close friend and the pal is there when Eric needs him, like the time Eric turns into a dog in the school locker room. Eric's teacher even thinks he's showing new creative writing ability for his essay on life as a dog. But, what is causing this transformation to occur? Could it be Eric's preschool sister is involved? This is a darling movie from England or Australia. The dog is the star, naturally, for he is talented and cute as a button. But, all of the human stars do a fine job, too, especially the woman playing the frazzled housewife who valiantly tries to make her husband listen to her about the dog's abilities. The script is clever and fun, the setting is a pleasure, and the production quite nice. If you come into contact with this film, do show it to your family. It is a lovely film that transports the viewers away from the real, and sometimes ugly, everyday world.
i enjoyed this show, it was always funny when he use to turn a dog randomly and he would run off in to the bush.
i always remember one bit the most when he was a dog they made a secret passage though the rabbit cage that was always good, i can't remember how they did it but i think it let him in to the house without the adults knowing.
funny thing was that i think he used to know what he was doing when he was a dog?
i always used to like secret passage ways in them days when i was a child.
i have been searching for videos and DVDs for this show but i only found 3 videos that are about this show.

This show was just SO entertaining to watch, and the scrapes the boy and his friend always got into was hilarious. There was a funny new idea every week and I seem to remember they had quite a few guest appearances. Please try and see one or two of these, they are real good quality viewing for adults as well as kids!
