Babewatch

The origin of this "Bay Watch" rip-off, played as straight and unintentionally corny as the mainstream TV series, was a script porn writer Cash Markman had completed one month earlier, called "Jiggly Queens II." In that movie, two of the male characters were jacking off while watching a surf and bikini show on TV called "Babe Watch." It was all played for laughs there, and Markman decided the small skit could be spun into a full-length script of its own - or even a series. Scotty Fox, the director of "Jiggly Queens II," and a constant buyer of Markman scripts, wasn't hot on the idea of shooting a porno at the beach, where weather conditions, and crowd conditions, and sand in the camera equipment, was sure to be problematic. So Markman pitched the idea to risk-taking director Buck Adams, and a series of porn movies was born. But there were creative differences. Markman wanted to lampoon the TV series, but Adams wanted to play it straight - or, at least, as straight as "Bay Watch" was. Feeling uninspired over this direction, Markman brought in Frank Bukkwyd to help with the writing. Markman stayed on to contribute to the first four "Babe Watch" scripts, then left out of boredom. Adams soldiered on, often writing the further sequels himself.
