'The Magic School Bus' is another one of those shows watched regularly as a kid but forgotten about for a while during teenagehood. Reliving all the fond memories over-time as a young adult re-watching various forgotten about family shows, many of them still hold up incredibly well and manage to be even better today. More so than not. Have always liked shows that entertain and educate, 'Sesame Street' being ground-breaking in this regard, and there were definitely memories of 'The Magic School Bus' doing both.
My very positive feelings on 'The Magic School Bus' had as a child still hold up brilliantly. It is not only as wonderful as remembered, it is perhaps even better with more to appreciate. It is one of the very few educational shows to have a perfect balance of entertainment value, cuteness and educating younger audiences in a tactful way. As a show on its own terms, 'The Magic School Bus' has a real magical charm to it that still stands the test of time.
Visually, 'The Magic School Bus' looks great. Have always loved the vibrant use of colours, the beautifully detailed and sometimes imaginative backgrounds and Mrs Frizzle's outfits. The varied settings are lovely to see and used very well. The music is dynamic with what goes on and never feels out of place in a too jaunty or too dark way, while the theme tune is catchy.
Even as a child, the writing struck me as very clever and it was clear that those responsible for the writing were having fun and had done their research. There are many genuinely hilarious moments throughout, as well as some cute but never too sentimental ones. All the stories are lively in pace and engage fully throughout, they also entertain and charm hugely. There is a lot of educational information, of the how to kind than the basic gist, here, delivered in a way that is easy to understand without any dumbing down or preachiness.
All the characters are fun and memorable and individual in personality, Mrs Frizzle really does make education fun and worth engaging with and in. The chemistry is endearing and always natural. The characters are portrayed ideally too, nobody sounds odd.
Concluding, still has its magic. 10/10.

yes, sesame street and other shows teach the basics better. however, once your kid advances to the "how it works" stage, this program hits the nail on the head. my kid likes hearing how honey is produced and what the roll of the bee-keeper as well as the queen bee, etc. There are also a lot of factoids that he just will spout off for the next few days. Sesame street was great when he was 2 and 3, but now at 4, its magic school bus time.
we just recently discovered the books and they are great also. we do story time before bed every time and usually its at least 5 books. one of these books takes about 20-30 minutes though because there are a lot of factoids in each of them and reading each and every one takes time. i learned quite a bit myself. i kind of like the book better than the show.

when i was growing up i learned all i know about science from the magic school bus and bill nye the science guy. this show was great. it had cute plots, good information, and fun characters. i wish it was still on. i give it a 10/10!
I still find I learn from watching. It's a show that is not irritating like some newer cartoons that think kids are idiots and need hyper energy to stay tuned in. This entertains and teaches my nephew and is enjoyable for me as well!
I used to watch the Magic School Bus and learned a lot from that program. I watched it when I was little and several segments were hilarious to me at that age. I still fall back on these tape to help simplify my knowledge when studying in high school. All those who say that this would never be helpful to children have problems of their own. Every person I've every known of who watched this series has found it useful and fun. Even my mother (52) watches it in her spare time. It's a helpful way to begin to teach more complicated science subjects to children. In my High school, the Graduates are required to watch one episode relating to the unit at the beginning of each unit. The Magic School Bus is useful and suggest to all parents to look into it to help commence some education in your child at a young age.
