I like slapstick if done well, but it certainly isn't in this idiotic "comedy" about two twin brothers in different life situations switching roles (boy, compare "Trading Places"). Neither the slapstick nor anything else in this movie is funny. Perhaps the pie fight is a minor redeemer, for even tho it could be better in certain ways, it is so long and thorough that it is somewhat enjoyable. It is also tainted by the stupid antics, however. If you've seen "Spy Hard" and did not like it, do no see this. You gotta be nuts to like this film.

This film was a cultural staple of family movies in the 90s, alongside both bad kid films, Beethoven, Critters 3, etc. And now it is very hard to find a copy of this film.
The only part people were squeamish about is the food fight. No one likes the food fight scenes in usa movies. It's another thing which actually happens in real life, and which is another reason why not-first-world countries hate first-world-countries more, than their home-grown dictators. At least the terrible people-killing-dictators don't do food waste. Instead they create famines.
This movie formed how people perceived the split personality disorder for years, even if it is comedically exaggerated. And well, it turned out to be scientifically accurate. Split personality is a hoax spread the same way as the vaccine conspiracy.
The story is unusually compact. Most of the film happens in real-time.
Robert Trebor from Hercules plays one of the characters.
This film can be funny or at-least impressive when it does live-action looney tunes and shows good VFX. When it does generic slapstick it is flat. There's an amount of memorable and iconic scenes.

..but enough for a morning. I wouldn´t go rent it not even for a buck, but I would watch it again on T.V. It is entertaining, but it´s really stupid and the actors aren´t that good. Let´s just say it barely makes the cut. Besides, it´s a little surprising watching X actress Traci Lords trying to act in a comedy.
Ah, there one always complains about modern comedies, specifically the Friedberg / Seltzer productions like "Epic Movie", "Disaster Movie", "You-name-it-movies" and how the genre of slapstick comedy is going down the drain. However, it would be unfair to blame this phenomenon to the 21st century; there has been crap in the early 90's too, and there's no better example than "The Nutt House".
Let's start off, talking about the cancer that's ailing this film: leading man Stephen Kearney. Let me say that, I've been laughing harder while pulling faces in the mirror (and I'm not good at pulling faces). Kearney's profile claims that he's one of the most prolific comedians in Australia, which may be true but leads me to the conclusion that Australia is far away from anywhere and that entertainment in the outback's is scare – I plan a career as comedian there myself; my show would consist of me smashing pies in my face, while hopping on one leg.
Checking out the IMDb profile of director Adam Rifkin, it caught me by surprise that he went on to direct "Detroit Rock City", a comedy which is among one of my personal favourites; living proof that nobody's beyond redemption – however, products are and if there's one thing I'm sure of, it's that there's no redemption for "The Nutt House".
It's been an old tradition that, after watching a movie – no matter whether good or bad – that I'll check the trivia page on IMDb. Couldn't help but notice that three actors had their final appearances in this film – I couldn't help but to think of "Airplane" and those poor suicidals.
As for the rating: if you see one star above this review, it comes from IMDb, not from me – from me it get's nothing.
As to this thing 'almost ruining my Christmas', well, it's true: some bozo at the local television station saw it fit to air this abomination on Christmas – and I was too well-fed and lazy to switch!

this movie is stupid. some parts might get a giggle or two but this is a really silly film. it's ok if you like slapstick comedy or you are a person who is a fanatic of dumb and dumber or chevy chase films, but otherwise, you might like to leave this one on the shelf. but for a laugh get it, if just to see the stupidity.

- QuizCreative tensions between director Scott Spiegel and one of the film's producers, Brad Wyman, resulted in Spiegel being replaced by another director, Adam Rifkin, three weeks into production. Wyman later stated that he regretted firing Spiegel and blamed it on the fact that he (Wyman) "wasn't a very good producer at the time." As a result, the writers of this movie - Sam Raimi, Ivan Raimi, Bruce Campbell, and Scott Spiegel - were so embarrassed with the end result that they all used pseudonyms instead of their own names in the credits.
