For nearly two decades, O’Donnell, 63, and Trump, 79, have exchanged sharp words. The A League of Their Own actress frequently criticized the former Apprentice star while hosting The View. And Trump has often slammed O’Donnell on social media and in the press. Most recently, he suggested he might revoke her U.S. citizenship, to which she issued a scathing takedown of the threat. If a movie stars the trio of Matt Damon, Andor's Diego Luna, and the iconic Jodie Foster, then you know it's going to be worth a watch. This is the central trio of stars in Neill Blomkamp's 2013 sci-fi flick, Elysium. Popular at the time of its release, Elysium has since fallen under the radar of many, especially considering the more high-profile releases in Damon's filmography that have subsequently debuted, such as his surprise Academy Awards hit The Martian and his part in the ensemble of Christopher Nolan's masterpiece, Oppenheimer.
If you're one of those who have either forgotten or perhaps never come across Elysium, then you're in luck.

Sports bring people together, whether it be the players on the field or the viewers in the stands (or on their couch at home), and sports movies do the same thing. The beautiful thing about the latter is that even those of us who really don't care about watching sports can still enjoy them in the form of narrative tales exploring the highs and lows experienced by athletes at all levels. That's because, ultimately, sports movies are human stories. Even better? Most of them are underdog tales too.

Exclusive: Production has recently wrapped in Philadelphia on Joy Will Prevail, a period drama about the final three years in the life of architect Louis Kahn, and the relationships — both romantic and professional — that inspired his final residential commission.
The film stars Griffin Dunne (After Hours) as Kahn, alongside Alexis Bledel (The Handmaid’s Tale), Ben Rosenfield (Mickey and The Bear), Molly Ephraim (A League of Their Own), and Jennifer Beals (Flashdance). It is written and directed by Max Korman marking his feature debut.

One of the best-selling video game franchises of all time is finally making the leap to live-action TV, and Netflix is pulling out all the stops. After years of development limbo, the long-gestating Assassin’s Creed series is officially moving forward at Netflix — and it’s being helmed by some seriously high-profile talent. Emmy-nominated creators Roberto Patino and David Wiener are set to co-showrun and executive produce the series, which is being adapted from Ubisoft’s iconic stealth-action franchise that began in 2007.
Netflix’s partnership with Ubisoft to adapt Assassin’s Creed was first announced in 2020, but updates since then have been sporadic at best. Now, nearly five years later, things are finally clicking into place — and the creative team is stacked. Joining Wiener and Patino in the writers' room are Claire Kiechel (The Acolyte), Jaquén Castellanos (The Affair), Sanaz Toossi (A League of Their Own), Emily St. John Mandel (Station Eleven...

Donald Trump made a bold threat about revoking Rosie O’Donnell‘s citizenship on Truth Social. On Saturday, July 12, the Potus took to the social media platform with a message about the former The Rosie O’Donnell Show host. “Because of the fact that Rosie O’Donnell is not in the best interests of our Great Country, I am giving serious consideration to taking away her Citizenship,” Trump, 79, wrote in his update, per the Daily Mail. “She is a Threat to Humanity, and should remain in the wonderful Country of Ireland, if they want her. God Bless America!” It’s unclear what prompted his declaration. However, the post came after O’Donnell, 63, spoke with HuffPost for a July 7 article about their ongoing feud and her move to Ireland before Trump as re-elected. “I look at America, and it feels tragic. I feel sad. I feel overwhelmingly depressed,” the A League of Their Own actress confessed.

The Office franchise is expanding once more, this time in the streaming world. Peacock is releasing a spin-off of the Steve Carrell-led comedy, which will now shift the focus to a struggling midwestern newspaper publication. While it was already expected to release this year, Peacock has officially unveiled when fans will be able to return to the world of The Office.
Peacock released a new poster for The Paper, which confirmed that it will premiere the first four episodes on the streamer on September 4 this year. Two episodes will then be released on a weekly basis until September 25. The show stars Domhnall Gleeson (Ex Machina) and Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus). The Paper was co-created by The Office's Greg Daniels alongside Michael Koman (Nathan for You). As the official synopsis suggests, The Paper sees the same documentary crew from the original series move on to find their next big story.

"Forrest Gump" and "The Green Mile" often rank high on the list of people's favorite Tom Hanks movies, but real ones know that "A League of Their Own" deserves the true top spot. With its charming, funny, and often hard-hitting script, this was the film that signaled a shift in Hanks' movie career. Before 1992, he mainly starred in comedies; after '92, he was more likely to star in serious, Oscar-worthy projects. It's tough for some actors to make that transition, but it helps when the movie designed to prove your dramatic talents is as strong as this one.
"A League of Their Own" was a critical success and an instant box office hit, one that was added to the National Film Archive in 2012 for its cultural importance. Most fans of the film today are also aware of the 2022 Prime Video reboot TV series "A League of Their Own," which was...

There's long been a divide between what's popular with general audiences and what's popular with the Academy Award voters. Popular, beloved directors like Alfred Hitchcock famously never won an Oscar, for instance, just as actor Samuel L. Jackson has never won one despite starring in seemingly every big movie ever. One particularly fun example of this phenomenon came with Kurt Russell's 1984 movie "Swing Shift," a box office bomb that grossed $6.6 million on a $15 million budget.
Why did it bomb? The general consensus was that the movie failed to live up to its promising premise. The movie was about the labor shortage during WWII, where women found unexpected power in the workforce before being pushed back into traditional roles the moment the war was over. The movie captured the feeling of the time period well and featured a few hard-hitting moments, but it didn't nail it in the way that...

Source Image: Sony Pictures “No crying in baseball!” You know that line, right? From A League of Their Own – the movie that hit us harder than any fastball. It premiered way back in 1992, and honestly? 33 years later, it’s still totally inspiring. A true shout-out to the brave women who played ball when no one was really looking. Penny Marshall directed this gem, telling the real story of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. That’s the Aagbpl, started in the 1940s during WWII, you know? Could’ve been just a history lesson, but nope! It became a total crowd-pleaser and a cultural icon. Penny Marshall actually made history here – first woman director to hit over $100 million! And yeah, the league was started by Wrigley to keep baseball going during the war. The cast? Unreal! Geena Davis as tough Dottie, Tom Hanks as grumpy-but-lovable Jimmy Dugan. If one were to rank all the major streaming services by queerness, Amazon Prime Video would be a pretty tough one to pin down.
On the one hand, you have to give credit where credit is due: One of the service’s very first stabs at original programming was “Transparent,” which in turn was one of the first shows to star a trans main character. That show now has a lot of baggage, but it’s hard to understate its historical significance.
Beyond the thorny topic of “Transparent,” Prime Video does have a good track record of releasing shows with LGBTQ characters and centering their narratives on queer themes; in particular, many of their shows focus on queer women, refreshingly avoiding the centering of gay men that defined queer TV for decades. In 2023, the streamer dropped a phenomenal limited series retelling of David Cronenberg’s “Dead Ringers,” starring Rachel Weisz as twin lesbian gynecologists.

It's another heartbreaking day for lovers of television as Peacock has just killed off one of its most promising shows. Laid, a romantic-comedy drama starring Everything Everywhere All At Once star Stephanie Hsu, has been cancelled on the streamer after just one season. The series premiered with all eight episodes on Peacock on December 19. Laid was a hit with audiences and the critics as well, scoring a tidy 93% Rotten Tomatoes score, but the numbers weren't quite enough for the streamer. In addition to starring, Hsu also served as executive producer, as did the show's writers and co-showrunners, Sally Bradford McKenna and Nahnatchka Khan.
Peacock has not released an official statement explaining its decision; however, Deadline, which broke the news, reports that the series was unable to draw as much attention as other shows from the same creators. There's nothing like a good sports movie. Even at their worst, you can expect a rousing, feel-good romp or a fascinating deep dive into the mind of an athletically gifted individual. Hollywood has no shortage of stories in which a last-second shot or touchdown determines a character's fate, and audiences turn up in droves to see heroes like Rocky Balboa or Daniel Larusso overcome their demons and vanquish their opponents to achieve eternal fame and glory.
Still, fact often triumphs over fiction. The only thing better than watching Roy Hobbs (Robert Redford) hit the game-winning home run in "The Natural" is seeing Scott Hatteberg (Chris Pratt) do the same in "Moneyball" -- and knowing it actually happened. True-life tales hit harder because they don't rely on fictional elements to deliver crowd-pleasing thrills. One could argue these stories are more powerful because they prove that magic is more than Hollywood hocus-pocus.
